Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've been in email contact with a company that do service kits for calipers.

I enquired about the 16v brakes so disc'd rears & here's his email back:

Citroen Front £18.90 this is only for the Girling caliper with the 20.4mm thick disc, it will not fit the Lucas caliper. Rear £24.75 both are axle sets and include vat, postage uk £1.39.

Hi All,
This last May, I changed rear spheres. This week I have found rear end getting very bumpy. I didn't change rear hydractive sphere or the anti sink (wasn't sinking) at the time.
Should I have changed the hydractive one at same time as the other two?? Rear end hard to push down at corners and no bounce back. Accumulator changed a bit...

Even if the hydractive (center) rear sphere was dead flat - you should still have the basic suspension from the wheel spheres. Meaning the press down test would perform as it should.

I think thats a bit misleading.

Even though the outer (wheel) spheres in a Hydractive 2 model have similar gas pressures to those in non-Hydractive 2 models, the...

My K plate AX failed it's MOT today on a balljoint :(

I've split the balljoint off the hub, undone one of the rear bolts but can't understand how to disconnect the one closest to the back??? No obvious bolts, so how does it come off?

Also I've seen replacement balljoints, how easy are these to remove and fit? Is it a simple Tool of a pikey...

Also, anyone know where I can get the twist lock 509t type bulbs that will fit in the heater control panel? The only ones I can find will fit in the bulb holder but then the bulb holder wont fit back in the control plate because the back bit of the bulb protrudes rather more than the original fitment and...

Apparently, the front screen actually reinforces the strength of the A pillars!
Bit like a circular drum's stretched covering helping the whole structural
rigidity and shape.

The relatively easy part is actually using bespoke cutting wire to take an old
screen out - as I say, I helped a screen fitter. The trick is to remove the

The radio (with CD Changer) does not now switch on. Did come on, after I had stopped for a call of nature, during my 2 hr commute. Have checked all dashboard fuses and am scared of going to dealer (price). Can't think of anything I've done to promote this. Any Ideas :idea: , I'd be grateful :?:

Hi haven't been here in a while........

The new owner of my Xantia TD R reg, has rung up with a bizzare problem, 2 15amp fuses keep blowing (rear wiper and indicators) and the speedo has gone to 150 mph and stayed there.

Any ideas folks a bit stuck as he's going on holiday Saturday

Still having a problem.......the two original plips (no red lights on these) are with the car. The batteries have 3.5 volts. They must be matched to the ECU but 'nowt appens' when I press either of the two buttons. Any ideas please?

The recever is inside the CPH unit which is located behind the passangers glovebox.sounds like the plips probably just need re-programed.

Title says it all really..... The reversing light fuse keeps blowing :( and I'd like to check the wires leading to the reversing light switch. The car is a 2 litre Hdi with 5 speed manual box.

When I got the car back from having the clutch changed-the fuse was blown. I replaced it, and it was fine for nearly three months, then it blew again. I popped another new one in, and this one blew too. Symptoms are when you engage reverse, the reversing lights come on and it makes that stupid *bing* noise. Next time you try reverse, its blown....

A friend with a 2002 Xsara 1.9TD has a problem with mixed coolants. He added green coolant to an orange mix.

Do all modern Cits come with orange coolant?

What year did they change, if they did?

What is the recommended coolant?

For the cost of replacing the coolant with the correct fluid compared to the lasting damage it may do.....no contest! Poor or wrong coolant can attack the metal surfaces and lead to early gasket failure, it may also cause locallised heating spots, and finally it may even damage your water pump.

thanks for your input, ref your note I have not removed the nut on the rear arm only cracked it open approx 1/2 a turn

That means your rear arm bearings don't have the correct preload on them, thats not good. If there is slack in the bearing, you'll end up with play and shockloading, thats not good either. Even if having the nut slackened does...

Having finally got the ZX out of the back of the workshop, fitted a new clutch, rebuilt the front suspension & brakes and welded in two small plates, I am surprised at how pleasant to drive the car is. After a two year lay-up waiting for my time to fix the car, I had forgotten how this basic 1.6 Advantage was such a nice car.
My only niggle is...

Im guesing i have to lock the cam and take a zillion pipes off to get at the thing(will probably do the glowplug while im at it as well) but how do you time one up if you buy a 2nd hand unit at all as im tired of my one leaking as its only a dribble and once the engine has stopped as well :(...

Just to update after checking the stop solenoid and around abouts over ther is hardly a drop coming from there at all :(

I have tracked it down to som form of plate on the back of the IP pump right down near the head. I am assuming this is some for of take off plate for another application but serves no purpose on an XUD engine. It may have been...

Ive a problem with the air re-circulate cable on the heater control panel. (The one for the fresh air/re-circulate cable)

It has become kinked, ive tried straightening it but now its a total mess and wont work, so i need to change the cable.

The cable end at the heater panel is easy to remove, but does anyone know where the other end is and how...

Hi all,
I own a 1.4 Xsara, 02, 81,000, FCSH. Had the car a week now & have noticed a transmission type noise, it's when you accelerate. Could it be the alternator belt? Timing belt changed at 75,000, but alternator belt squeaks slightly when cold, on closer inspection, outer edge starting to look perished. The only way I can describe the noise is...

I'd like to know if this seems expensive.

First off, October 7th, I took the car up to Glasgow for the model show. The journey went great, but on the road back, coming through Kilmarnock, the car just basically stalled at traffic lights.

I tried restarting, but to no avail. Eventually I called out the RAC and they ran checks. They could see that...

I don't know why it's burnt out, but the mechanic does say that the wires burnt out from heat rather than from water damage. He also says that the fact I've had to change the fuse twice recently in the underbonnet fuse box that is Aircon supply fuse could be connected, although not a cause of the problem as such.

Have owned the above (1995 model), for about 18 months now and as it's done about 13000 miles, thought it was time to treat it to a service? (I usually believe if it's not broke - and all that!).

Anyway, the oil is still quite clean, so I decided to leave it and time went by........

So - what doe I need to do for a service? Obviously oil and oil...

Fuel filter at least, check condition of LHm as well incase that hasnt been done for a while and is maybe due to be flushed out and its filter cleaned. if you have aircon probably a cabin filter as well.
Check the tyres for pressure and wear and the wiper blades and door joints probably wouldnt go amiss without some more grease in them i find....

I read somewhere that if the ECU detects a fault then it will flash the light on the hydractive switch when you switch the ignition on, provided you are in comfort mode. I guess you could test this by disconnecting one of the electrovalves? Of course, whether or not you can tell if the switch is on or off is another matter :?

Just spent a couple of hours looking at my girlfriend's best friends Xantia that her boyfriend (allegedly) got a couple of mates to help him fix....

curiously enough they are nowhere to be seen right now :D

realising from 'the boyfriends' garbled explanations it was a big job i carried multiple jacks etc but still the scale of damage impressed...

Quick question...does anyone have a pinout or wiring diagram for the alarm control unit for a ZX?

Going to try plumbing an aftermarket one in tomorrow and try and get it control the central locking as well - I guess the best way to to use the (now) redundant signals which the plip unit used to use - does anyone know which way the roof wiring...

Just take the Locking pulses from the C/locking control unit (you wll also get your battery live & earth here at the same time),it should be located up next to the interior fusebox on a 97 model.

Does it need to be refitted when putting new bottom balljoints on. The original will not go back on for love nor money. I have got a price for a new one but can't begin to think of the hassle I will have trying to fit it. I did the other side last summer and still get flashbacks. For now I have left it off as we need the car on a daily basis....

Whilst probing around under the bonnet looking for causes of my starting problem earlier today I found a small rubber hose hanging loose. It comes from the front of the fuel filter - between the two electrical connections - but where does it go to?

Anyone fancy popping out to their car to take a look for me?

Hi my Xantia (1996 1.9TD estate SX) will not rise this morning to the 'Normal' ride height at the rear.

The rear will drop to the 'Low' Setting and rise to the 'High Setting' but the rear will not go into the 'Normal' driving height. Mnnn :(

I have had a quick look under the car at the rear and the 'Clip' that gets pushed forwards and backward...

Hi there oh wise and experienced ones :)

Does anyone know if the ignition switch, door locks and remote key fobs from a series 2 Xantia will fit and work in a series 1 vehicle? Also, is it likely to be a pain in the rear to make the swap if they do fit/work?

If you can get hold of a second hand back bit of the ignition switch (I think they call it the black box ) you should be able to fix the problem without having to change the actual ignition barrel and locks. I did it myself on a 1994 Xantia a couple of years back with the same problem. You have to be careful because there are two or three...

Hi all,

Just need a little help if you can. I need to identify the gearbox type on my Synergie. It could have either an 'ME' or an 'ML' type box, as they both have differing length clutch cables. Anybody know how to identify it?

Synergie 1.9td 2000 v plate manual box.

None of them could give me a convincing answer as to wether their particular cable would fit my vehicle .

Have mk2 1.4 Xsara, is the thermo housing located off the top rad hose?

Could I get away with not draining all the coolant before changing the thermo? Just undo the top hose, as I've just changed the coolant.

Changed the thermo, made no difference. No cold spots in rad & not loosing any water, no air locks. Still runs between 90 - 100 C. Do you know if the mk2's have a more economical rad than the mk 1's?

Just found out that the thermo starts opening ar 88 C & is fully open at 95 C, so that sounds about right.

Hi

One of my Hydraulic pump seals is weeping. (One right on the top) You can see LHM pulsing as the pump works. This is only a tiny leak of LHM on the drive in the morning.

Is this seal replaceable? or does the whole pump need changing? Is it a fairly easy job?

I replaced the spheres on the back of my 97 estate last weekend and checked the ride height using the diagram you linked in your post - it was the same. I hadn't moved the height corrector at all so I assume it's supposed to be the same as the hatchback.

I know the xantia is famous for alarm problems, as well a other annoying glitches which is why my friend rang me up two days after buying a R reg SX turbo diesel saying how do i turn the alarm off !! in the end he parked it overnight in a local municipal car park to stop his neighbours going mad. :shock: Having had a xantia myself i was confident...

I have a clonk from the rear suspension of my Xantia.

It occurs as the suspension reaches the bottom of the stroke and returns to shape. There was initially only a clunk coming from the off side but now it has been joined by a friend on the nearside too.

My xantia has a clunk/rattle thing going on at the rear drivers side. It's at its worst either side of 70mph. Its been there awhile and its now getting quite loud. The wheels angle in slightly at the top.
Does that sound like trailing arm bearings?
If so how easy to fettle?

OK, on my girlfriends C3 when freewheeling there is an odd noise almost like a bit of card clacking through spokes. The car does this when braking as well.

It is about 10 months old ~6000 miles and is the executive model 1.6 petrol with triptronic gearbox.

Any ideas on what this could be?

no you cant do it without going under the car,the best way is up on car ramps or over a pit,as the suspension drops rapidly when moveing the hight control mechanisum

Abs warning lamp in xsara is still on, I've checked everything according to autodata cd and only thing wrong is no voltage from Brake Pedal Position Switch (BPP).

All the sensors seems to be ok. What is that switch? What can be wrong with it? Is that the one above brake pedal?

Hi Team,

I am trying to replace both ball joints but have a problem. :(

Even with appropriate tool its a b***** to remove and I'm going to have to remove the hub carrier and place unit in vice thereafter use a impact wrench to remove it.

Anybody out there had similar problems and and suggestions will be gratefully accepted :!:

Job done, Here are few thoughts for anybodys info.

I think the best way to remove the lower ball joint is by removing the hub carrier.I also removed the drop links for ease of refitting.
Placing the hub carrier in vice and gently apply heat to area surrounding the joint followed by some gentle tapping of surrounding area , then...

well, not quite ;)

but, for example, when my xantia is warm, I manually select 1st, leave it there till about 3000 Rpm, then knock it into 2nd.. the revs drop, I continue, they drop again (about 500) , I change up then 3rd, then drive, and all is normal...

anyone else have this quirk?

My driver's side headlamp has failed.

That's the right hand side for our continental friends.

I could not get my hand in to get the bulb out. The LDS tank was in the way.
I tried front left and hadto remove the battery to get at this one. Thats not too bad. But front right is a pig.
My C5 has Xenon lamps. Its the dip beam thats failed.

I got 2 Xenon bulbs from a company in Taiwan which i found on Ebay.

They were 2 Xenon type D2R bulbs with 9000k temperature. The 2 cost 30.50 GBP total (not each) plus 15 GBP postage.

I've fitted them very carefully and they work a treat.

Some div forgot to plug in the switch that turn off the passenger airbag, light now goes out as normal, all I've got to do now is take the steering wheel off again and put it back on straight. Can't understand how it's out as I marked everything with datum lines. :oops:

Hi There ,
I have just wired my blower up from my battery . A direct feed as there is a problem with the wiring .

The only problem is that the wires are going hot and is melting the switches that i have used to act as a on off .

Does anyone know how and what i need to get this to work on a direct feed ?? it will cost a fortune to get the...

i left the car over the weekend after being unable to get the LDS moving, on the morning i started the car heard the pump cut in but no movement turned the engine off, pump still running then away she went, why i dont know , but to all you guys out there i have now...
