Drivers side window wont go down now i know why , help!

Post by Neilsouth »

Needed a cheap run about and got myself a Citroen Xsara 1.4 LX 8V , however i knew about the drivers side window not working but i thought it was just a fuse.

I took the door panel off and found

Not only was the motor housing missing ( with the magnets in ) , but also the plastic brush housing that goes round the commutator. Can i get these from a scrappy? , i don't need all the rest just these parts :(

And in this heat its terrible lol

Hi Neilsouth

Unfortunatley if as i understand Citroen then you will need to but the whole lot

The good news is that replacement is straight forward and i would have a good look around your nearest scrap yard for a suitable part much cheaper than the dealers

I do try to avoid main dealers just like what used to happen with my toyota , they'd charge you an arm and a leg even for just small parts. I'll try a scrappy , cheers :D

My son's wipers failed during heavy rain. It cost him £300 to have a new motor fitted at the dealers.

Mitsubishi Colt.

Citroen single wipers were the best, IMO.

I cant see anything wrong with that window motor, looks perfectly normal to me. the brushes etc are inside that casing.
Being a xsara my money would be on broken wires inside the door pillar connector, pull the rubber sleeve back & take a look.
A word of warning, when refitting the motor back in make sure you get the correct size rivets as if they are too long they catch the bit that holds the glass on as it goes up & down.

That's not my motor and picture hence the reason i've put a ring round it that it was missing...

We got the parts and put it on the motor and nothing happens , you can hear the motor make a noise. We felt around abit and the wires are unattached , here are my pics updated from 5mins ago.

Just gets worse and worse , one of the plastic grommets which keep the window in place is broken. The cables are not attached , where do they attach to?

Any full diagrams of this window mechanism ?

What the hell happened to this window device

 :?

Your best bet is probably to find a good one on a scrap xsara and do a complete swap.

If it fixes to the glass the same way as the Xantia, there should be rubber grommets in the holes of the glass with a split clip (looks a bit like a "R" ) going through it, this then holds onto the peg on the winder unit.

Looks like i'll have to get the device out then , it sounds as if this is a common thing?

Any idea what causes this to happen

Oh and thankyou

PART 1 = SUCCESS

Got the motor and runners all out , it looks as if the spindle behind the motor which has the wires has jumped a tooth and caused it to jam. Perhaps someone else in forcing the mirror caused it to break the rest of it.

so tomorrow back to the scrapyard
