Tip for jump starting a Xantia V6

Post by xantia_v6 »

Having 2 of the beasts, one tends to sit around not doing very much.

The battery in the Mk2 seems to drain in about a month, so I try to take for a drive every 3 weeks. Yesterday I went to drive it and the battery gave out just before the engine fired. I connected jumper leads from the Jag, and the starter spun the engine over OK, but no fire.

I guessed that the ECU needed a reset, so I disconnected the battery lead, counted to 10, reconnected it, reconnected the jumper leads, and it burst into life.

So if your jump start is not going too well, disconnect the battery(s) for a few seconds.

A common cause of battery drain on a V6 is leaving it parked with the gear lever in any position other than park as that leaves the park alarm relay activated, Citroën published an Info Rapid on this issue.

Thanks,

I will watch out for that, but I think it only applies to the Mk2, as I don't think the Mk1 has such a relay.

another tip, if it doesn't start immediately it is asking for as little resistance as possible, lower the suspension setting to minimum , give it those few seconds and it will burst into life, many mornings i have thought the battery was dead, followed this proceedure and it behaved as if everything was normal
Love my black v6 xant - only one with cream coloured leather too!
