On the Xantia the clutch pedal when pressing down had a notch feeling like Anders mentions.

When I changed the fuel filter (couple of years ago this was) the notch disappeared when all the fuel spilled out.

The clutch plastic clip broke middle of this year if its related.

Nope, Nothing Mike. Mine's the same.

I guess that is where the cruise control would connect if it was fitted.

hello howie it was an air lock by the look of it i done 20 miles to day and no flashing red light telling me to stop will take it out for a longer drive so it seems you were right howie thanks mate for the info

The usual culprit is the ignition switch that can’t carry the fan current.
On the Mk II, the circuit is modified with a relay to take the high current off the switch.
If giving it a thump helps, the bushes could be binding, or the brushes are worn.

Thank to everybody who contributed. I've ordered the timing belt kit which is to be here this week. I checked the LDS Level, it took almost a Litre to bring the level up to the Minimum Mark on the tank

Absolutely fantastic toy for nice sunny days. Been dynoed at just shy of 340BHP and goes like nothing else I've ever experienced, would highly recomend one. 8)

New wish bones come with the bushes in place however no ball joint.
The balljoint is upside down compared to most cars it screws directly into the hub carrier and then the pin bit goes through the bottom arm and is secured by the lock nut underneath.
The balljoint is a (-expletive removed-) to do if you don't have heat, impact wrench, 20 metre bar or a vice....

Run mine on a 50/50 mix of veg oil, but it's certainly not as cheap as it used to be. I remember the days when i was paying 40p/litre at Aldi's.

Still, a lot cheaper than fuel costs for my my Mazda RX-7 Twin turbo....200 miles to 80quid! :shock:

My drivers electric window has started to occasionally make a similar noise in one direction only. I wonder if it's related to your probem? Keep us posted please. But I would urge you to give the mechanism a good lubing anyway. I did this to a previous car and it made a world of difference to the action, not to mention to my paranoia about it...

It's not that simple, there is a time delay too, so opening the throttle wide as you start it will not turn the glow plugs off. I think the switch has to remain activated for a certain period, so blipping the pedal will not make any difference.

Have you taken the speaker out? Think that was equired for front passanger door, also where the handle is, you will see a small circle, think one behind there, and possibly behind the pocket that moves in and out. Think that had to come out too.
Also on passenger's side, the door handle is two parts, the back comes off, but the drivers side does...

The Jeep is a 1998 Grand Cherokee Orvis, 4.0 straight 6. Nice enough if bouncy and hopeless round corners.

The fancier suspension of the Exclusive sounds a bit touch and go. I am intrigued by this veggie oil thing though. Bosch pump and simply pour in the oil? Surely must be more to it than that? Take it it is used oil - do the chips go in the...

Well things are lookin grate. My car traveled miles at 60mph in fifth, and no sign of anti-pollution fault. So Electrovalve was the fault! Cost me £180 total, including replacing the screenwash/schoosher pump as that had failed also. I very happy.

it's only 1-2mm out, enough to stop the bolts lining up with the holes.

0.7 litres if it has rear drums or 0.8 litres if it has rear discs.

Nice job well done, have there been any issues with clearance on the front wheel arch's?

Only driven round the block so far but in normal running there is plenty of clearance, even when suspension is dropped it clears the arches ok, but does look beefy on the front!

I got an awful metal-metal noise within just a few days and assumed it was the front pads worn - on inspection, they were almost new. It was the rears - totally padless, just thin metal plates in the shape of a pad :x

Good bedtime reading on diesel engines (all bits) here:

44mpg is/was good for an IDI engine in such a heavy car, mpg will drop a bit because of the way it burns, the oil is thicker than diesel so does not atomise so well, although it does get heated up by the fuel filter heater it will still be a higher viscosity, you also find yourself putting your foot down more because it costs you less :wink:

IMO stick with the xantia until something big falls off it :)

Routine maintence is the key so possibly look at getting the suspension spheres done if they have been on a while and flushing the LHM system as well and getting the cambelt done if it was done more than 3yrs ago.

Then look into using some SVO in the tank as it will help flush the...

When I had my 1996 Activa i always returned 25 mpg (5.5 miles per litre ish..).

I could not drive it steadily. It was too much fun. I had a manual boost controller fitted too which increased the standard bhp.

I miss it, but, realistically, I used to drive it too fast and am probably a lot better off with my leather seated, cruise controlled...

Jim, I did read about RS flip flop and bistables last night and even went on to read about the IC's but I can't see any that flip from the one input only, they all appear to require two or am I missing something?

I may as well abandon that idea and just fit the kit activation switch in a xantia switch blank. I can then use the steering wheel...

A faulty air conditioning pressure sensor switch may also cause it, so disconnecting that will make the difference.

Just checked. They do have flat seats so that definitely answers the question.

Although the alloys are the same style as the other wheel trims, I can see no real advantage in having just two alloys on the rear, in fact this would only create problems re. the spare, so I will get the tyres swapped onto my steel rims.

Thanks for your input, but I think I will stick with the lhd, I can only say it's a joy to drive in France, and around where I am there does not seem to be a lot of car theft, must be a dodgy area you live in? :lol:

The motorway badge is a good idea with a rhd but once we get out to France permanently I do not foresee much motorway...

you probably can get to it through the wheel arch, i just found it easier to do it from underneath, i thought id drained most of the water off but i was wrong and found that out when i pulled out the stat, i should have known better :oops:

Hmm, not good news for you I'm afraid. Estates weren't actually built by Citroen but by a company called Heuliez. Unfortunately they weren't very good at welding the door hinges to the scuttle with the result that the hinge breaks away and the door falls off, so get it sorted soon before you look like part of a 'Laurel and Hardy' sketch :P ....

and of course i wouldnt mind driving an Activa to check out how it handles. Next time we meet up I'll bring my Activa and let you have a go :D .

well done them today pretty easy although i did get the routing wrong first time :oops: just to say that you do not have to remove the centre console as long as the small balancer cable is alright.

failed its mot friday so only got the two front wishbone bushes to do to pass and they look pretty easy with my trusty big hammer and grinder :lol:

I love that i just got 648.2 miles from a brimmed tank(veg oil right upto the fuel cap!) until it would no longer run on the flat and stalled out on me Smile not bad going i think and kept the warning light on for just over 50miles Very Happy
That wasn't pushing her hard at all and being very light with...

The 2.0 HDI 110 has a dual mass flywheel. Mine didn't fall apart but the clutch started slipping. On removal the friction plate looked brand new.

As soon as I saw that wide channel dumping all that water onto the lamp cluster, I could see that it was going to be an area of problems.
The main benefit of the repair is that you’ll stop hearing from it. :twisted:

Loop fuel inlet to return, After filter, with a tap and tee to allow air-venting during 'bleeding' system, or changing filters. The Injector Leak-Off return pipe chain should be plumbed into the now redundant tank return line.

NO NO NO :evil: NEVER DO THIS :evil: Unless you wish to end up with a leaky pump and fuel filter :roll:

My Mark 2 doesn't have a front passenger or side air bags, it's a 1.9 TD Sensation registered in 1999 late on in march on a T plate.

I have to admit the seat and material are very poor compared to my Mark 1 1.9 TD SX, the seat material has worn through on the outside seam on the drivers seat just above the seat height adjuster, it seems fairly...

firstly are any of the pipes on the spare sub frame the wright size/bore, if so you might be able to just salvage them just in case you cant get the rusty ones undune without chewing them up, also if it only leaks on lowering the suspension its got to be a return pipe/point were the citro blood is comming from

If your HDi engine is the same as an XUD the dipstick is in the middle of the bonnet - ie right at the clutch end of the engine. This means that if you park it at the kerb of a cambered road in UK it will read high. The difference is quite significant - and so really you should not let the level drop below about 1/2 way between the marks unless...
