Pollen Filter, W (2000) Xantia Forte 1.8

Folks, I'm stuck. Or rather, the pollen filter appears to be. While I had the footwell carpet out to check something else, I thought I might remove the pollen filter and check the condition.
Can't get it to shift. Either that or I am looking at something else entirely. Haynes manual refers to three securing screws, but I can't see any screws, and the filter (or what I think is the filter) will not be pulled out.
It does shift laterally a couple of mm either way.
Any suggestions?

Some pollen filter covers don't use screws to secure them, they simply slide off.

To be slightly more precise, they slide along the long axis of the cover, for about 6mm then pull down. Sorry, I can't remember which direction is off... but they can be quite tight.

I believe the covers slight to the right, i.e. towards the driver, to come off.

If your pollen filter cover is a slide off type take note of its shape this will clue you in on the orientation of the filter element on refitting, don't be tempted to put the tapered end in at the top, I believe the tapered end faces towards the passenger side door. The pollen filter element is designed to only fit one way, however I have personally removed 3 filters from 3 different Xantias where the previous changer had somehow managed to force the filter elements in incorrectly, if you get the orientation correct, the element will slide in easily, and the slide cover will close easily.

This may apply to all pollen filters, I don't know I've only ever seen the type with sliding covers.

Not all mk1's Cloggz I know of a late mk1 very close to me with a slide type.

That’s what Citroën calls ‘constant evolution’, with the transition to the Mk II being done ‘piecemeal’.

There is an arrow embossed upon thine cover, to indicate which direction of slidage releases it.

Forsooth! I had not considered ye slidage, I had embarked upon prising and wrenchage! I see I must adapt my tactic somewhat.
