Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've just changed the front discs and pads on my xantia estate and for the last month or so they've been squealing as i drive at speeds lower than 40. Everything is free under there and i've tried copaslip grease but they still squeal, especially when i brake!
Now theyve started grinding as i brake, but not all the time, i can only describe it as...

Thanks for the thoughts guys, but I do know what I'm doing - I've had my own workshop for the past 5 years. I specialise in a different car but do all my own maintenance on the Xantia. I renewed my licence today for my Xantia and the Traffic Master light never goes Green or Red, just stays off, and i know the licence is active because if i press the button it just says Traffic Master instead of Traffic Master, Licence Expired, telephone......

im not sure how it actually works but I would think it would be down to registration so it has to ping to retrieve data and like a computer if you ping then your sending information but on the other side like tomtom and the like it would depend if its registered...

Hi I need new front discs for my 1.9 TD xantia estate , I measured the old ones and reckon they are 283mm but when checking the brembo site found a listing of 288mm as well , can anyone enlighten me , its a p reg by the way. regards john .

if Triple A supplied BREMBO then they probably got them from GSF in st leonards on sea, so you could almost certainly have got them even cheaper by going direct, if you dont already have it here is there phone No. 01424 855866

Recently bought an X reg 1.9D (first registered September 20000) and would like to replace the fuel cap, which usually needs two or three attempts to lock after filling up. Told by another Xsara owner its a usual problem.. so perhaps replies to this post will bring cries of they all do that . Any one found a replacement that locks back into place...

cant say i've heard of that either, the fuel cap has a locking device that doesent let you remove the key unless the cap is locked properly, for that to happen the cap has to be pushed home onto the filler neck properly. try pushing the cap in harder & squarely & see if that makes a difference.

I'd be more inclined to believe the AA. From what I've read, seems the turbo is minded for overpressure (which a failed wastegate solenoid causes).

Again, from what I've read on here, the EGR is a waste of space and is better disconnected. I don't recall reading it would cause limp home mode.

Is there a DIY method to determine a battery's condition without resorting to fitting it in the car and cranking the engine?

Hello Mike, the only way you can test a battery to see if it has sufficient life in it, is to use a discharge tester. This will put a load across the terminals and draw the same current as the cranking amps needed to activate the starter motor with the engine attached.

The unit I use, and have done for the last thirty years, is a Nolton Tester....

Just putting the RH driveshaft back. Have replaced the diff seal (Elring) whilst the engine was out. Quetsion is, the seal has a ring of white teeth, which I thought might be lip protectors, howerver before offering up the shaft, I gave it a tug & it seems firmly attached. The offside headlamp on my wifes 2003 HDi Berlingo is making an odd buzzing noise. Its just like the sound of a relay going nuts, disconnecting the light from the loom stops the noise and putting the lights on full beam also stops the noise. I had a quick look around but it was getting dark and I didnt want to pull it all apart, the lights still...

Having replaced the strut tops on the Xantia (just before they failed, judging by the parlous state of the metal supports), I need to de-rust the same items on the C5 to try and prolong their lives. Apart from putting the suspension on the lowest setting, is there anything else I need to do before disconnecting the front suspension...

My outside temperature gauge shows flashing -- -- rather than the temperature. Where is the temp gauge located?. I am assuming it is in the drivers side door mirror as this has been replaced previously, before I owned the car. If this is the case can the sensor be purchased seperatly or only with a complete door mirror assy?

The change of location could be to do with the location of the gauge. In the MK1 it's in the Tacho whereas in the MK2 it's in the dash over nearer the passenger side along with the clock.

Therefore, less wires, cheaper looms :lol:

I am having probs getting the Crankshaft pulley bolt of the Auxiliary drive belt off.

I need to change it because, it looked wonkey when it was running so, it seems sensisble to change it now, whilst my car is in pieces.

if you have the pump off why are you/fitting the AUX drive belt, as the cam belt goes on behind it, and as every one has said dont try losening or removeing the cranck pully bolt with the cam belt of, because if you unintentionaly spin the crack you could bend vavles

My 97 P reg Xantia TD Dimension LX needs 4 new spheres, it's getting a bit choppy.
I noticed that they list hydractive and non-hydractive...What's the difference, and any ideas which my TD needs??:)

Hi all,

I have brake fluid leaking from one of the Brake Pressure Regulator Valve on my ZX. They are under the car between the fuel tank and the spare wheel. One of them leaks fluid when the brake pedal is depressed.

so it has a pressure release valve in it and if that's the case your problem is over pressure from the main valve from what your saying and that compensator valve does get stuck with rust witch's make it in I would spray the linkage with wd 40 and work it loose, worth a try

If you've got the engine out, or are doing strenuous stuff behind the engine, watch out for the fitting where the hose is attached to the back of the water pump housing:

It's made of brittle plastic and costs £25 from Citroen :oops:.

And would be a complete ****** to get out with the engine in-situ as you can't see it or get to it. Not too bad...

Xantia hdi 90 bhp

Hi,
my main airbag light is flashing on and off and has been for a few months now, i've read that the connectors under the seat may need soldering but arn't they just for the airbag light fitted in the seat or are they all connected.
which wires connect to which as i seem to have a green wire that is fastened to nothing.

It's time for a Cambelt change on my 2.2 HDi C5.

Is it best to change the water pump at the same time ?

Is it a DIY job. My local Citroen Specialist quoted £200 inc VAT.

I've had my Cambelt changed on my C5.

In the end I took it to my local Citroen dealer.

For a new Cambelt, Tensioner, Water pump, Auxiliary belt and Aux belt tensioner. Plus new coolant/antifreeze they charged £395.

I didn't think that was too bad for main dealer prices.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

it was mentioned to me at the weekend, whilst talking about my dad's xud 306, which has cold compression of 90psi in all 4 cylinders..

Basically, after an overheat, the rings can contract permenantly and compression is forever lost...

there is a spare engine in Hailsham which is not to far from me.. could take it up, and throw it in and bring other back for repair... at least it could in theory be done in a weekend, whereas a head-rebuild is a few days minimum with skimming etc (assuming the head is rebuildable)

Newcastle is just too far really for two trips...

Hi All

when the bx really heats up, especially in stop start city traffic on a hot day it runs really poorly under about 2000rpm, with virtually no power, but if i can manage to rev it higher than about 2500 i can get going with a big clutch slip, once moving quicker - out of traffic, the problem clears up, ie greter air flow i am assuming it...

hiya lads
this is regarding my dads 2001 picasso 1.6 lx.the radio stays on permanently even when the keys are out.there is no radio dashboard readout,thedate and time display but no radio station.is there something wrong with the radio itself,the ignition switch,bad earth?any advice would be appreciated as this is a real head scratcher

I am sure that I have read somewhere on here that I can remove the instrument panel without removing the dash or steering wheel. Is this correct ?

Finally got round to doing this today. Armed with all the helpful info from the forum, I removed loads of screws and eventually got the instrument panel out. The rev counter needle was trapped between the perspex cover and took a few thumps to free, but finally went back and worked perfectly. Changed all the tiny capless bulbs on the panel lights...

hi all, my xantia has begun it's 3-season starting difficulties...

been fine all summer..
all 4 glows were checked in August during the rebuild...

I am running 35L WVO and 15L DERV today.. overnight temp's probably down to 5C

Apart from the fact that veg runs a bit hotter John, should make no difference at all to glowplug life. However..

It'll be worth checking the controller is good and they're not remaining on all the time. Conceviably, if the post-heat function was unhappy, they could carry on glowing for all the time the engine is running and this would seriouusly...

Right then...I now have a set of second hand cooling fans for A/C and engine, complete with cowling etc.

Now all i have to do is fit them, and hope my previously mentioned problems disappear!!

Hi all

recetly i rang Bosch to ask about the coil in the BX and they wanted to know the engine type, so I went down to the car and all I could find was DFZ stamped into the block along with the engine number,

the car is a 1987 1.9 8valve injected TRI, so according to some websites it has an engine type of :

159A (XU9S)

or

D2A (XU92C)

or...

I have a 2000 V xantia sx hdi with an annoying problem.

The car feels sluggish and every other day it will go into limp home mode and the management lamp comes on. After a stop/start it seems to clear then after a while the lamp goes out.

Is there a common engine mounting fault on the 2.0 hdi xantia

I get a grumbling noise at low revs on my V 2000 xantia and a knock on clutch take up

A quick look and I suspect the lower G/Box mount but wondered if there was a common culprit

Is your Xantia HDi a 110 bhp model if so trust me here, but the noise may well be emanating from the brake calipers as they tend to rattle around in the calipers at low revs. To work out if it is the calipers, the next time you hear the noise gently pull on the handbrake until you feel a resistance if the noise stops you need additional bracing...

I am trying to sort out the remote locking and alarm on my car a p reg xantia, It will not work on the remote, the doors all lock ok with the key so i am chasing the alarm system down, Ive come across a elect relay I think. It is situated on the top of the left hand wing 10 mm bolt holding it on, it has on it G CARTIA 03 730, the casing is broken...

When I removed the head, the engine was set to align the locking bolts. I've since removed the head and lost the camshaft/valve position. I think the Haynes manual can help me there but I haven't studied it yet, it's in the car. Anyone know a quicker way?

I think there's a photo of how the pistons are but like I said, they're at the position...

Has anyone replaced the sump for a Xantia 'on the car' on a model with AC at all?
Mine has cracked and now holed :( and im considering trying to source a used sump to stick on there. The only place locally to me that may stock them specialises in pugs so im not sure if a pug one will doe as no doubt the mounts will be slightly different for it......

I had a car in with this problem... (L reg S1, TD SX, WITH anti sink) it stiffened over night.. HOWEVER, I decided to give it a Hydraflush and het presto! Back to constant smoothness!! Customer quite pleased! She needs to come back now and get back to LHM...

I'm sure Jim's already explained this to me but it still hasn't sunk in fully. I know I have a TPS and Lift Sensor and ECT sensor and that the ECU exerts timing control from them but how exactly does the ECU alter the timing?

Apart from operating the EGR and cold start device, does the ECU control or monitor any other parts of the engine...

Main harness components are present in RHD cars - you need to add the lights, any bezels, the intermediate loom between both lights, the green (or now yellow) relay to its existing socket, and fit the correct blinker stalk from GSF.
