engine management light on/ lack of power

Post by carpysmith »

hi fellow citroen owners!
i have a 1999 xantia 2.0hdi estate which has just developed the following fault.
symbol of an engine is lit up and car seems to have have lost power, this happened while driving to leicester from kings lynn. engine does not misfire or anything, just seems down on power. car is overdue for a service [display with spanner icon is flashing 0000] could this be anything to do with problem? any ideas anyone?

hi Carpy, I am afraid I have never yet needed to know anything about HDi's.. but for sure the light on is telling you of a fault, and the car has gone into 'limp home' mode..

once fault has been corrected you should get your power back

a session on a diagnostics is probably the answer.. a few of us have them, on here :D

It will do that for an intermitent fault but the fault code will be locked into the ECU and can be read by a Lexia or other code reader.

obviously some sort of intermittent fault then! cheers for the info, i have a friend who runs a garage that specialise in citroens and have the appropriate diagnostics kit, gotta book car in for a service so will get him to run a check on it at the same time, at least i,ll know what fault is/was!
