3 questions, Xantia mk2

Post by Pompey_Dave »

Got a few questions, AGAIN lol!

Heated window, doesnt seem to work...I press the button on the end of the stalk and nothing happens! The "button" doesnt even seem to click, let alone work

Gearstick...When accelerating in 4th, like going onto a motorway, does anyones wobble from side to side? Also, how can I cure a swueek I have when going from 2nd into 3rd? It seems to come from the area inside, under the leather surround, but the gearstick doesnt seem to want to come off to let me get some oil in there, how can I get to it?

And the last question, apart from the standard Xantia PCD, what other cars have the same PCD and bore? Its just searching for some 2nd hand wheels on places like ebay, I cant find 2nd hand alloys specifically for this car, so want to know what other makes to search for, like saxo, pug, etc.

thanks

Dave..

Heated Window.. on my S2, the button doesn't click either.. the only way I know it's on is by the yellow light, top RH corner of dash ... but.. the bulb was missing from this location so I was in the same boat as you before I added a bulb.. could be worth pulling your binnacle out and checking?

Gearstick wobble, could be a few things, mine wobbles a little.. if it does it under load in 2/3/4th gears, then there is a chance one of your inner driveshaft tri-ax joints is just starting to get upset.. but there are other possibilities..

I would grease/wd40 the 3 gear selector control rods (under baulkhead, behind engine) to see if the noise goes?

alloys, I put exclusive xantia ones on mine.. I am not a huge fan of them, but they were cheap ;)

The heated window switch, is the light coming on in the dash? The button won't click you just push it to turn on, push it to turn off.

PCD - PSA like to use an odd one. It is 4x108 with a bore of 65.1mm. This is shared with the Peugeot 406 and most other PSA vehicles but not all. You also need to make sure the offset is correct...this should help

Wheel Fitments

Can't help with your other question, though someone will be along shortly.

The button is a push to make switch, no click, but should activate the Relay, you should be able to hear the relay click on when pressed, engine running only...

Relays are located above the throttle pedal... if it still does not work, I had this on a S2 Xantia once, and found a break in the Wiring between the Maxi power post behind the battery, and feed to the fuse box...

Had to put in a new wire - what a job, with the dash in place too...

well, no lights come on when I press it, and the rear window still stays misted up aswell as the mirrors. Take it its a fuse check time then, hopefully thats all it is

As for the noise, its inside that its making it, as if the gates in the selector area are dry, only happens from 2nd into 3rd...the wobble, only happens in 4th, hopefully its nothing to worry about

as for wheels, seems I must just keep checking around for alloys that will fit...may take a bit longer but hey, im in no real hurry, i was just wondering really so if I see any for a good price from another car, I would know quicker if I can use them or not

Is this a Xantia HDi?? or Petrol? Is it a HDi 90 or 110bhp??

90bhp are linkages useing the older BE Gearbox, were as the 110bhp is cables useing the ML series gearbox..

The synchro hubs are prone to wear, especially 2nd/3rd and more so if the incorrect oil is in the gearbox.

Should be Total BV 75w80 but at a push Comma, Castrol - (there is another, thought it was Millers but not so, apparently) EP75w80

The EP75w80 being the most significant bit.

its a petrol 1.8

So, where is the fuse for the rear window? I opened the fuse box to be greeted by loads of fuses, and nothing labelled up to show me which was which!
