Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

In the Citroen Workshop Manuals they use a strange (to me anyway :roll: ) method of measuring torque wrench settings.

Typically...

Tightening torque = 3,5 m.daN

I'm not at all familiar with this unit of measure.

How can this be converted into something I understand like foot-pounds?

That's just like the French - invent a perfectly good set of units, then make up some random ones. They like to use kgf / cm2 for pressure, instead of the perfectly good and simple n/m2 (otherwise known as bar). They built a couple of plants here in Grangemouth, and decided 690V was a good idea for the 3 phase supply, instead of the 440v used...

After a bit of digging, i came across this info. Clearly they were mistaken...

Heuliez designed in 1996 a convertible version of Xantia. Unfortunately this idea didn´t never see the day light. This Xantia had retractable hardtop.

1. Today I tried to fit new front brake pads to my 1998 Xantia,
whilst trying to screw in the piston turnning it clockwise it would
only travel in about half way, the piston still turns but does not
want to travel in any further.
I tried lowering the suspension to let the pressure off but this didn't
help at all.
I have changed the pads...

always unhook the cable and make sure the hand brake lever on the calliper is fully off before windding the pistons back

Nope tried that and still no joy, can't help thinking maybe there's some dirt lodged behind the piston somehow, why should it be so easy to wind them back one year and the next year they don't want to move in far enough? do...

Hi all.
Im looking to buy a 2001 C5 HDi at the moment, the one i have found has 2 problems:
1 the speedo doesnt work, is there a common fault with the speedo's, if so what could it be (guess that it is electronic)
2 The remote locking isnt working (so im told) but it will lock with the keys and set the alarm, assuming its not the batteries in the...

1) It most likely won't have a road speed sensor in the gearbox instead taking its speed reading from the ABS system, If a BSI reset by disconnecting the battery doesent work it's most likely an instrument panel fault. Is it an automatic by any chance ?

2) If its not the batteries & the remote(s) dont just need re-syncronised then its most likely...

I've had a read of the other recent similar problems but they don't seem to be the same. Friend's C5 is blowing the fuel pipe off the priming balloon and covering everything with fuel, done it twice now, last time over the mechanic :shock: :shock: (he wasn't happy) any ideas what that'd be? Mechanic is stumped.

Should there be a clip on the pipe...

The 2006 2.2 HDI twin turbo 173's have hand primers!
Sorry, your right but i was assuming it's the old 2.2 with the bosch EDC15 injection system which has an electric lift pump & no hand primer.
You will have the Bosch EDC16-CP39 which has no electric lift pump in the tank therefore it has a hand primer.
I may be wrong, but as far as I know no...

I have just had to replace the battery in my Key Fob.
I believe I have to reprogram the fob after this?
I have tried the only procedure I can find on here (Put key in ignition, turn ignition on, hold Lock key for 5 seconds, remove key from ignition, leave 5 seconds and press lock again) However this didn't work for me, tried it a few times but...

Oh dear :( Connect a meter between any glow plug connection and earth and put it where you can see it from inside the car, should read 10 -11 volts for about 15 or 20 seconds after switching to glow plug position.

For the third time in 4 months the alternator on my TurboCT failed. Its a Mitsubishi unit.

Anybody have one I can buy from? This one seems jinxed... two regulator failures and now a diode bridge failure.

my rev counter has always read just under 10,000 when ticking over. lately it sometimes jumps up to 20,000 or well over 10,000. then if i rev a bit harder, comes back down to normal. anyone know why. thanks tom.

the blower/fan on my 1999 synergie 1.9td sx has an intermitant fault as in somtimes it works somtimes it doesnot sadly mostly not! it is the type with the digital display (not the sliders) we have replaced the panel with all the controls on (with a working 2nd hand one) but still no fan/blower! all of the other functions work fine (you can hear...

Hi, trailers are very expensive to hire at the mo around a hundred quid for two days/ a weekend, :shock: if anyone knows could you please advise the weight of a Citroen GSA please so we can decide which size trailer to hire and possibly save some pennies?

Bear in mind that the legal towing limit for your car is what it says in your handbook, not a percentage of the tow car's weight as many people believe. Often the towing limit is more than 100%. For the 110HDi Estate it's 1500kg, I think the TD it's around 1300kg.

If the Xantia's suspension is working properly it should sit at the same level...

Hi folks, when I replaced the bellows on the steering rack I tightened up the clamp bolt which connects to the 2 parts of the divided track rod. There was no indication at what angle I should set this to but I reset it to where it was, approximately. No real problem here.
My query is that the track rod dips in the middle at this setting and there...

Hi,

does anyone have the unusual experience of going to a breakers for some new front seats for an AX and getting four door front seats instead of three door front seats? (I know I know it was a stupid thing to do).

Now the new seats don't lean forward like the old three door seats to allow a passenger to get in the back but they have a blank...

for those that don't know the four door AX seats dont have the tilt forward mechanism, but the move forward enough for a passenger to access the rear seats, so changing them after they have been cleaned isnt a problem anymore.

PLease could someone tell me where to find the hazard light relay on an S1 95MY Xantia?

Item 12, near the top of the fuse box, above the brown diagnostic socket.
The felt cover will need removing to get to it.
It’s a light grey, garden-variety 3-pin blinker from the steam age.

If the lights flash, I would expect the fault to be somewhere else, like in the hazard switch itself.
Normal left or right blink function always passes...

Hi all, first post and it's a plea for help, sorry!

Got me a 2005 C5 2.0 Hdi VTR - the facelifted version. Seems well looked after, 112k but serviced on the button every 20k miles.

Recently, whenever I start the car from cold (i.e. it's been lying for more than around 7 hours) the brakes won't work for anything between 30 seconds and two...

Just a few notes for others who may in future tread this path.

If you remove the upper fan shroud (two press-in clips and two Torx screws) it is possible to then remove the fans with minimal dismantling.

Remember the fan hub is a left-hand thread fixing and don't lose the conical star washer with its screw. Remove the fan blades/hub moulding...

Two questions here, the first regarding the heated seat regulation. Is it based on a simple voltage drop series shunt or is there some sort of complicated pulse width modulation thing going on?

The reason I ask is that having just repaired the back pad in my drivers seat I checked out the voltage on the connector as the seats only seem to have...

Did some further testing of the seats, and now all the pads are working I've discovered that they do actually get warm on setting 2 at least. There seems to be some kind of time/thermostatic cycle going on so that they are not supplied with continuous current as they are when set to full.

Hi,
The drivers side front coil Spring has just snapped tonight...luckily I was just starting to pull away when it went so I was able to stop as soon as I heard the twang.
I hate to think what could have happend if I had been on a Motorway when it went as the spring had jumped over the cup that it sits in on the strut & the sharp pointy end of...

I found the LHM leak on th e old V6 yesterday, one of the return hose joints had popped above the rear subframe.

Can someone point me to a plumbing diagram of the Hydroactive system so that I can work out which pipe it is?

There is a potential way of proving if it's the hydractive electrovalve leaking. Pull the Hydractive ECU fuse (F8, engine bay I think) with the ignition off and this will force hard mode always. This should cut/reduce the leakage past the electrovalve appreciably as it'll be firmly closed.

I can't guarantee this is a cast-iron definite test as...

Please can someone help?

I bought my 03 plate C5 2.2HDi from a dealer 2 weeks ago with 44K miles on the clock.

the problem I have is that in 2 weeks the fuel economy is sitting at 29.7mpg and which ever gear I am in I am unable to rev the engine over 4000RPM.

Admittedly I only do short mileage journeys of 10 miles a day, however even taking the...

You don't want to be doing 4000 rpm in a diesel they run very inefficiently at high revs. Max torque comes in at about 2000 rpm and that's where you need to keep the revs. If you are trying to drive it like a petrol engine, that could be where your problem lies.

We bought a C5 estate last week, its a great car however ...

It seems to be developing a cracking noise from the rear N/S suspension. It wasnt doing it when we collected it, but its getting worse as the days go by.

Its usually on big bumps, like speedbumps or potholes, but it can be fine at times with no noise and then on another bump it will...

We now no longer have a decent Citroen Main Stealer in Milton Keynes, unless our old established one has risen like a Pheonix under a different name following it doing a disappearing act recently without me knowing...

This has made those bits that are only available from Stealers a bit of a headache for me as all the oher Stealers are a good trip...

Hi folks... simple question (I hope). I need to know which are the live & neutral (earth) cables on the radio on my 08 Berlingo. I've bought a signal booster, and was told that ALL radios nowadays have red/black... not mine.

The unit is a Clarion PU2859A(J). If there's no live, can I go from somewhere else? And are snap-lock connectors the right...

Manual gearboxes are a distraction when you have to keep your mind on the traffic.
Current automatic boxes have low slip, and lock in top gear … I’m getting 31 mpg with the 2.0i petrol engine.

Hi everybody!
I own my 1997 Xantia 2.0i 7 years. 170 KKm.
All this period it was very comfort and reliable car.
But one month ago i discovered LHM i the cabin and main brake valve leaking. In the garage they said me, that the valve is not repairable, they have not spares for it ( ?!?!?! :( :shock: ) and I had be forced to buy a new one for $...

Hi
I need to change a damaged rear door for a better one but i have a slight problem :(
The original door has electric window whereas the new one is manual :twisted: :twisted:

Is it a relatively straight forward (for a Xantia :lol: ) job to exchange the mechanism

The electric motor assembly is removed quite easily IIRC about 3 or 4 small bolts, plus the switch. The most difficult part for me would be getting the loom into the new door without damaging it.

Older forum members may recall forum stalwart Dave Burns fitting electric rear windows to his LX Xantia.

Does anybody know if the rear beam from a ZX is the same as on the Xsara? Does it matter if one has disc brakes and the other drums? Can these items be swapped over easily?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, as i am getting rather concerned about the issues I am having with knocking coming from the back of my daily driver,...

My Xantia has the high biting point and heaviness that usually suggest that your clutch clip is at risk and you could do with replacing the clutch.

However, yesterday as I was driving in traffic I depressed the clutch and felt a click or graunching sensation, and immediately thought 'oh feck, there goes the clutch clip' but yet seemingly it was...

The bonnet release catch won't turn on my wifes Xsara (non Picasso).
The release mechanism inside the car is OK, just the one under the bonnet that won't turn.

Anyone with an early Xsara (1999) could give me any advice or send picture or diagram?

Try a workout on the bonnet giving the catch mechanism some motion.

Have your wife pulling the in-car release handle, while you firmly press down and release the bonnet repeatedly.
Should not be that much effort needed.
Make sure you apply hand pressure such you dont dent the bonnet bodywork !

PS : make sure to lube the mechanism once it opens...

OK, you can all laugh at this one.

I swapped front brake rotors and pads the other week at a mate's workshop.

Before realising we needed to crack the bleed screws, we'd wound in one side until it leaked LHM past the handbrake actuating post .

Subsequent to the brake job, the initial startup/pressurisation is taking about 50% longer before the...

Hi there

Long time lurker here with a S reg S2 Activa that I'm trying to coax back to good health.

Just fitted a new hydraulic pump and HP pipe and had to take the Bosch engine management computer out to get the pump out.

The manual says it now needs to learn it's settings again and will run and idle rough for a while. I've driven it for an...

Hi All

Taken in a Xantia TD 1993 L reg WITH ANTI Sink, 208k and in amazing condition for the miles however, with recent spheres fitted all round (by myself too) the rear arm has developed a VERY VERY nosy rear arm when you bounce the back up and down, couple of weeks ago it had a VERY loud CLICK from the rear, then a day or so later it went, now...

Sounds to me like a transponder problem - the chip in the key not being recognised so the immobiliser locks the fuel pump.

could be the connections from the aerial in the ignition lock barrel to the ECU.

There are a fair few posts, some quite recent, dealing with just this problem, have a bit of a search around.

A lady friend of mine has an intermittant problem with starting her 2002 Xsara 1.6i.

Frequently when she goes to start it the starter fails operate. The dash powers up and the car will bump start easily.

It can start up ok for days on end, then refuse to start for a few days, occasionally if the key is wiggled around a bit then it...

My old Xantia Estate has failed its MOT because of an LHM leak. It's a 2000 SX HDi with standard anti-sink suspension (i.e. a sphere on each corner plus accumulator and anti-sink).

This picture isn't the actual car but you can see the part in question. It's the gold-coloured component below the anti-sink sphere. It is leaking around the black cap...

Does the power steering and suspension use the same fluid and is it LHM or something different? I don't have sport mode if it helps.

Walked down to my car after work and the suspension was sat right down at the back. A pool of suspension fluid under the middle of the car and trailing down to an adjacent rain water linear drain gulley. Not so good for the fish in the adjacent brook! :cry:

I've left it there and plan to look tomorrow. The cars on flat concrete in an underground...

He spoke to the local Citroen dealer who advised that he has replaced three of these pipes last year, so seems like this is a common problem on C5s.

Cue a nice opportunity for the Indies to make a bit of a living from re-piping them, just like in the heyday of the BX :roll:

Funny how the Xantia was/is relatively immune from corroded hydraulic...
