Newbie with questions

Hi Just joined and need some help.
I own a 1998 series 2 Xantia 1.9 TD Have owned it since 1998 but it has been laid up for about 1 year. Have other transport but very attached to my Xantia

Due to economic circumstances have had to put her back on road but not without consequences

1. Radiator leak. At bottom of rad on passenger side where vertical seam meets bottom of rad couple of leak points. Tried rad weld as temp repair but not proving successful still a bit of leak so going to have to fit new rad. Need to confirm part number for rad any ideas where I can check part number? Has anybody changed a rad on this model? Any tips?

2. Took battery out and put her on charge - all good refitted battery and everthing fine except ABS light stayed on. Have checked forum and found posts re diagnosis and possible sensor problem on near side front - but just wondering if there could be a simple issue as car has been out in snow for last 4 weeks or so and subject to couple of thaws and freezing conditions. Car was not driven during this time and battery was out. Car would have had condensation inside but has now dried out.

Thanks in advance for any assistance want to try keep her up to scratch. Has been a faithful friend and always receives compliments on ride and comfort levels.

The ABS could be corrosion on the contacts.
With the car on axle stands at the front jacking points and set to low so the front of the car tilts up giving you plenty of room to work, follow the NSF sensor lead back along the subframe and you'll find the connector, pull it apart, check the resistance of the sensor from there (should be around the 1100ohm mark if memory serves), if it's ok, spray the contacts with cleaner and reconnect them, see how it goes.

continuing Xac's reply, you must drive the car. If everything is OK with ABS system then the light goes off.
System makes two different tests:
1. Static (ABS sensor resistances - OK/FAIL?)
2. Dynamic (ABS sensor signal when the vehicle moves. Triggered at 20 km/h)

Hi VertVegaI have been driving car since light came on and while trying to sort rad leak with the Radweld.
Light came on first time I started her up after battery was reconected and light has stayed on since - did flicker a bit but has remained on

Yea already got that one and printed off detail to do check

My main problem remains the changing of the rad and confirming part number. Funny after going to search and trawling through lots of posts I could not turn anything up on the subject

Would have thought rad leak on ageing vehicle would be fairly common

If yours is an AirCon model like mine then the area between cooler and radiator needs cleaning, once a year.
That gap is a mud and dry leaf collector

Big Thankyou for that - Yes it is the battery side and mine does not have aircon so looks like 1330-71 should be the one

Just for information, the Xantia DOES NOT do a Dynamic ABS check..just the useual sensor resistance present or absent check.

If the light is on, its a poor connection or sensor out. Repair the problem the Lights DOES go out before you use the car. Its the Tevis system used, that uses this setup.

The Pug 306 uses the Dynamic System, but Im uncertain of the system make.

Cheers Paul all information gratefully received. Figured it does not do the Dynamic Check. Will run the usual checks as outlined inearlier posts and hope it is something straightforward.
Have been running Citroens since 1988 BX'S first a DTR, then DTR turbo diesel then BXTZD and also couple of Xsaras and a Saxo. Have the Xantia since 1998 and its just hard to beat for comfort.

Me too.. Ive had a number of BX's, TXD N/a, TZD Turbo, GTi's, a TGD, then a 2.oi 8v XM, then Xantias, and now as you can see, Xantias an XM's

Ohh, a number of Visa D's too

I suppose my liking for "different" things probably started back with Corgi DS Estate models back in 60's !
If I win the lotto a DS (MAYBE EVEN A CONVERTIBLE WITH LEATHER SEATS) will be in the stable.
Back in 70's we had CX and GS models in family. I know for reliability and all that I could have a Toyota!! or maybe Nissan but......
Even got close to a Maserati/Citroen my fathers boss had one.
