Where to get spray paint (that isn't stocked at Halfords)

Post by Dommo »

Hi folks

I'm in need of some spray paint for the 2.1TD Xantia I got a few months back, Halfords don't seem to stock the stuff I need which is a bit of a bummer, and to be honest I'm not even sure what the colour I need is called! KQHCR is what is written on the bulkhead if anyone knows what that equates to?

So, where's the best place to get a can of spray paint from??

Cheers.

They do, but the only experience I have is what a good mate of mine told me, he went for some for his MK1 MR2 and the colour match was absolutely awful!

However DHallworth on here told me that he used them for some china blue paint for his 306 (which is quite a tricky colour to match, very very metallic from what I remember) and the match was spot on. So maybe I just need to try it!

Has anyone ever used Citroen for paint?

Halfords mixed me a can of marron metalic Xm paint a few months back, and the colour match was superb.

I've gone away from these aerosols as buying tins of paint for using with a sprayer and compressor is better value for money.

Apparantly KQH is VERT VELGA... Whatever VELGA means?!

I might have to ask them to mix me some up, what do you take in for them to match it to, or do they go off the paint code?

Cheers.

You could buy a can and spray a scrap part and see what the match is like ? I think with all machines the quality produced is always linked to how well the person can use it eg maybe the person who mixed the paint for your friend did nt know what he was doing ?

The "CR" is to tell you its a Car Hatch Model, estates have a different two letter code on the end.

As for colour, their mix's at halfrauds IS amazing! I have some Martious Blue mixed for my V6 for the wing spray, and its damm near perfect, its only the smoothness that shows different!!

Heres the painted wing:

It used to be Xantia usual Green...

eBay also has some options, like Citroen Genuine Touch Up Pen or others like this one: CITROEN-KQH-GREEN-VEGA

Tip: Citroen and Peugeot has same paint codes.

Good thinking on the eBay front, 30 mls may just be enough, it's only to cover a very small area.. Doesn't even need to be a particularly good match because its hidden by the rear passenger door (at the place that seems to rust on some Xant's)

I will have to try halfords, if it's cheap that is, and do I need to take something off the car for them to use as a colour matcher, or do they go off the paint code? If it's not too expensive I'll get that, if not that pot off eBay looks like a go-er!

Cheers folks!

Oh and isn't this colour a gorgeous green??

Dommo, I think you will find that the Citroen paint kits are just for touching up minor marks.

If you use a spray can, it is always worth warming the can prior to shaking and spraying. Did you coat the wing you sprayed with lacquer after you had put on your colour coat? That will give you better depth to the finish and allow you to polish out any imperfections.

Green a luverly colour! :puke:

The paint code should be adequate they usualy age the paint to, so it allows for the cars age.
