Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

HI,, I have the same problem with mine and after it's in reverse and ' bong' I just put a little pressure on the lift up collar and it slides down when out of reverse,,, maybe a touch of silicon spray would ease the problem.

Just got back from trip to UK, 1600miles round trip, nearly all motorways.

Brim-to-brim; very very gentle acceleration; allowing speed to drop when climbing hills; changing down with trailing throttle; top speed 60mph.

Astonished to get just under 61mpg - previous best was 56. Allowing for inaccuracies (odometer and filling tank), probably 57mpg...

That would be about right. On a recent trip to the north of Scotland we averaged 60.2 mpg in our 110 hp 406 estate over nearly 2000 miles, that's driving mostly at 60 mph, light throttle and minimum braking. Overall average for the last 4000 miles has been about 54 mpg.

I suspect that the Scottish trip may have been even better than that because...

Hi all,

I have brought Sylv's ZX upto my mate's garage to look at the cold start issue.

I am going to swap out the leak-off pipes as the primer bulb only made a difference temporarily.

However, the initial improvement after changing the primer bulb was probably coincidental!

The waxstat thingymabob that comes off the heater jacket needs...

Hi again - Can anyone give me a bit of advice with my Xantia lock cylinder?
I can't get the key more than one third in and am trying to get the cylinder out to see if it can be fixed. I see that Haynes say to remove the grommet in the door edge and push on the clip - which I'm not sure if I can make out properly. As I can't insert the key am I...

An update for anyone who has the same problem - You don't have to have the key in the lock and there is a slot in the door handle moulding inner that allows you to push the lock out once the clip is depressed.
When I got the lock out I carefully took it apart and found - as I suspected - that the problem was with the dust cover flap. I teased that...

My dilemma….

I think that sadly the day has come when I feel I must let go of my beloved Xantia. I've owned it about 7 years and, like all my cars, have spent lots of time and money pampering her (full service history). However, time marches on and now it has to go - either to the scrappy or to someone more adventurous or with more time...

Wow, 37K miles from your front Michelins, thats very impressive! I have just replaced the front ones on my C5 at 18K miles, less than half your mileage. The rears are now on the front and probably have 10K miles left in them.

I wouldn't go for extra load tyres, they are not needed on the C5 and would no doubt effect the ride and the steering...

In the search for the answer to one or two strange behaviours since putting the SED back on the road I thought that some further investigation was required into the Hydractive system. Unfortunately I can't remember what if any problems the car had before it's layup but I don't remember the nose rising up or rear squatting excessively....

Generally speaking you'll need a LED and a 1KOhm resistor, the resistor goes in series with the LED. You then need to tap into the electro valve feed. This could be done at the valve itself but that would mean running cables under the car or tap in in the ECU box under the hood, this is my preference. This evening, the green Xantia decided to dump all its LHM over the lane and father-in-laws drive. Could have been worse, we might have been on the M5 miles from home.

BTW, on this car, the leak-off pipe under the doseur valve (rear circuit I think) is a continuous 'rubber' pipe all the way back to the reservoir.

The fix started with tearing the pipe off the metal stub (on the doseur valve), and then forcing the hose-clip open with a small screwdriver. The pig was cleaning the remains of the end of old pipe off...

Basically the engine seems to have very little boost pressure, though it starts and runs smoothly. Fuel economomy has also markedly improved, which leads me to think the engine management is responding correctly to the reduced amount of air going into the...

have to say that I never considered that taking the MAF out of the air circuit might actually give an improvement in performance.

Based upon my experience I was expecting it to be the same or worse, so when you get a new one the performance should be even better.

Hello,
My C5 is behaving in a most amusing way - having replaced the rear trailing arms and putting it all back together I found that the rear end was too high once the car had been fired up. Not to be outwitted, I immediately set about checking the LDS fluid level in the tank ( it was low) and then playing around with the rear height sensor...

My C5 does the up-and-down can't-make-up-my-mind trick at the front if I park with the front wheels turned. I think there was an ECU update for this but, to be honest, it's now second nature for me to park with the wheels straight.

It's probably not much help to you though as your's has the back end bobbing.

Hi,
Have had slight hesitation when accelerating and slight @hunting@ when on cruise control at low load.

Have cleaned MAF, put in injector cleaner and twoc stroke oil but wa left with residual symptoms - was suspecting EGR as turbo pressure etc looked ok on lexia (recorded in test drive). But from EGR position records the valve seemed to be...

So far this year I have replaced both bottom ball joints, by means of hub transplants, replaced 4 nearside wishbone bushes (3F failures and 1...

Can anybody on here with a good 2.0 Ltr and a Lexia record values of air flow at 500 rpm intervals to 4000 revs and air temp that would be a useful table to check MAF's against.

Given that there is likely to be a bit of a spread the more submisions the better.
This would be usefull bit of info for those struggling with suspected MAF problems,...

Actually I seem to remember reading somewhere that on the C5 the mirror sensor is used as a backup for the purposes of calculating engine inlet air temp. However where the MAF thermistor would appear to be an integral part of the whole sensor that wouldn't do much for us.

Hi my 06 plate has a leak from the steering rack where the column enters, how hard is it to replace the seal. Anyone done this ?

Haven’t been there but it was impossible to get it right on the Xantia.
There are half a dozen seals, with one made of Teflon that can’t be stretched.
This job is so bad that the only solution is to offload it onto a steering mob.

When I start my Xantia it drops at the back. I'm guessing this is a sign of a failed rear anti sink/accumulator sphere?

If the front main accumulator is failed (my tick rate is about 10 secs!) in theory should the front drop down like the back does on start up?

My rear brakes aren't working 100%, I can see from looking at the discs.
There's no reason why there should be any air in the circuit.
I'll renew that sphere too.

Nitrogen leaks from the spheres, if it gets into the brake lines it will be there until you bleed.
Also limescale like stuff builds up between the arm and the caliper making the brakes...

Hi, Iam trying to find the bleed screw on the thermostat housing, but can t see one . ( should there be one ? ) I have found the bleed screw on the heater hose . Maybe there is only one on a Xantia ? My Z.X. has two though . any thoughts cheers Terry .

Deionised (distilled) water supposedly best as it has no contaminants like tap water - calcium salts are an unwelcome addition to the cooling system.

My dad always boiled the water first which helps. Binds the calcium salts.

I wonder though if the additives in antifreeze don't bind these salts and prevent them from doing harm.

Took the Exclusive wheels off the V6 that I'm selling and put them on my TD. Its not really harsh, but the car does not seem to absorb the bumps as well as it used to.

Have pushed down on the front suspension and it still moves, but just...

Having at last discovered how to get the turbo outlet pipe off, I though I'd share the information while it's still fresh in my mind.

I'm talking about the pipe that feeds high pressure from the turbocharger to the intercooler. It's the underneath one of the two big plastic pipes that cross over the top of the engine. This one needs to be removed...

Just wanted to point out, this is ONLY Valid for TD Engines from around mid 1996, or P reg onwards!!!

Earlyer tubo pipes feed and pressure outlets are secured by Circlips with intersection rubber joining pipies...there was nothing wrong with this earlyer setup..!

Not sure why they changed it to a single complete pipe with two 10mm bolts holding...

Urgent advise needed, having recently fitted the engine that has been resting for 3 or 4 years it came to life and starts instantly however gives the impression of fuel starvation.

Pleased to say that I have now got it running again although still far from right.

It is something to do with the fuel not correctly passing through the pump.
Regardless of the position of the shut-off valve there is minimal bleed through of fuel.
Again even with the engine running there is next to nothing passing back to the tank.

Has anyone come across the fuel filler flap that protects the filler cap springing out? The spring beneath the rubber cover seems to stay in place for a second before popping out and pushing the flap out. Most annoying!

Perhaps there is a seized locking pin? I can't even see how to get to the assembly. From behind by removing the boot trim I...

Getting annoyed with my low oil warning light, it keeps flashing at me even though there's plenty of oil in there. A few cycles of the ignition tends to stop it.

I've heard these are a common fault on the XUD engine.

So how do I shut it up?

New sensor I'm guessing, but is it easy to get to?

Mine only does it if it's parked so the nose is down and leaning towards the drivers side, so the passenger side door is higher than the drivers side. It does it without fail if I park in a certain place on my drive. If I park on the flat or nose up it never cries wolf, and thats with fully synthetic oil. I cant see the oil type making a...

hi ive got to change the locks on my van and was thinking of changing the ignition barrel because at the min i have to use 3 keys 1 for fule cap,1 for doors and one for ignition pain in the ass. what i want to no is if i change the ignition barrel will it affect the immobiliser (factory fitted) need to no asap as i cant get in the van from drivers...

My Xantia Washer fluid reservoir Seems to be clogged, i takes ages to pour half a liter there, is there a way to fix it?

You may find the vent pipe on the top of the reservoir is blocked. It's just a piece of clear plastic hose that allows air to bleed in as you filll. It can easily become trapped or covered in mud.

Take off the mudshield on the drivers side and you should be able to see it and deal with it.

I'm guessing (well, HOPING) that my rear drain tubes are blocked, however, I have no idea of where to find them.

Anyone able to offer some words/pictures of wisdom here please? Everytime it rains, I have water coming down and out where the rear seatbelt comes out of the C pillar :shock: :evil:

Looking around under the bonnet on this bloo......C5 (which won't start at the mo) there's a plastic case gadget with a magnet in it cable tied to one of the fuel pipes, no connections to anything on it, any ideas what it might be?

Suggestion have been so far, a scam fuel economy device, a tracker sensor, somehing to open a gate. etc. :) G.

Hi guys, have had a look on previous comments but cant find a fix for this little problem.. my heater fan is stuck to max, have had the controls out but its all electronic, has anyone had this problem before and if so how do i fix it.

As we all probably know... I've had no end of troubles with these little blighters... So, here's the story.

With the engine running, up to about 95'c the fans don't work... There's a lot of stop light flashing with the temperature light, but nothing else. When the engine reaches about 100'c, the passenger side fan would come in, on short bursts...

Have just done the modification to the tailgate wiring on C5 estate and now the micro switch incorporated in the latch release housing has went defunct,,does anyone know if the switch can be sourced from anywhere other than the main stealers?

Ive seen one for sale locally, its an HPI 2.0L Exclusive hatchback with 80K miles I think on it, its an 02 plate.

it comes with plenty of MOT, so its only just passed it in the last couple of months.

Should I avoid the 2.0l hpi? Ive just been doing some searches and people dont like them. they cant all be bad can they?

When I switch any of my indicators on, left, right or hazard warning... There's sometimes a delay in them flashing. Sometimes, they stop flashing, then start again.

Is this due to the hazard warning switch?

Try breakers yards too, I'd imagine 806/Despatch/Expert from the same year and before would use the same system, but I'm not certain.

Hi guys, wonder if anyone can advise me? I have a Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI MPV and when i set off in first gear the car judders. I have put the handbrake on and tried driving off whilst its still on and the clutch does not slip. When it's driving it seems fine between gears but it seems to have a little vibration when the clutch pedal is pressed in....

Hi, recently I noticed that my radio was becomming difficult to tune.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of this problem in their xantia?

some one has suggested that the aerial lead may have pulled out of the back of the unit but I am confused as to how this would happen unless it became dislodged when I recently changed the heater...

Hi all,

Are petrol and diesel zorst back boxes different?

Bought one off ebay ages ago for £7 all in,as no one else bid.
Upon receiving it the box is 4 shorter and a lot thinner than my humongous hdi jobby..(couldn't tell in the ebay pic). Oh well, not fussed as it was for nowt really!

I have just got three very different prices for front flexy brake pipes ( Xantia). Warners Citroen= £46.98 . G.S.F. = £21.60. H and M = £35.88. I think I should buy the cheapest from G.S.F. but is this false economy ? any thoughts, cheers Terry

After putting all the rear bits back together I took the car out for a spin on Friday night. It still seemed to have strange things going on at the front. So I thought I'd remove and strip the front HC to see if there was gunk in it or if it was rusty or I'd rebuilt it incorrectly.
