Xantia starting

Hi, my 1997 Xantia TD, The last couple of mornings, when I start up, the engine missies ( putt-putt) then clears it self, and it runs fine. my question is: what causes the missing or putt. putt noise. how do I cure it? any advice greatfully received, cheers Terry. :?:

Two very obvious suggestions:

(a) glowplugs?
(b) air in fuel line?

Me too. Don't forget the injector leak-offs as a source of air - if they haven't been changed within memory, you might as well do it; couple of quid and ten minutes.

Also when was the fuel filter last changed?
