Front right, offside or nearside!!

Post by carpysmith »

Hi All.
Finally got round to testing the abs sensors on my Xantia and it seems that the front right sensor is "open circuit".
Does front right mean right hand side as standing in front facing car (ie nearside) or right hand side sitting in car looking out (ie offside)??
Sorry if i,m being thick and asking stupid questions!!!
Regards.

Sitting in the driver's seat your right hand side is the offside

Hello Steve,

I have had to replace both Gracies front sensors, and I used these without any problems;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-XANTI ... 19d4b18212" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It takes a bit longer to swap the OSF sensor than the NSF. There is a plastic cable guide clip on the subframe. I had to replace this clip as I could not remove it without breaking it.

Hi Hell Razor!!
I used that link you gave me to order a new sensor (if you remember you posted it up a while ago for me in the meets and get togethers section) it,s on the way! thanks very much by the way!!
Just need to know if "front right" on the abs ecu pins diagram means "nearside" or "offside".
Regards.

"left" and "right" are always as facing forward (like port and starboard). Logical as "O/S" and "N/S" depend on whether country in question drives on the Left or (perversely) on the right.

as Gibbo and Old Guy say

it is always from sitting in the car

LEFT = N/S UK passengers side

RIGHT = O/S UK drivers side

N/S nearest the side of the road, O/S is the other side. In any country.

But why do mechanics use near side / off side? I still have to think about it. Left and right I'm good at, even port and starboard but N/S, O/S was invented to confuse.

yes but kerb side = N/S in a LHD country is the right hand side of the car, so N/S and O/S are switched round
