1.4 TU engine misfire & flashing Engine management light

Post by uncle buck »

Hi,
Well here I go again.
The misses came in tonight and the car is running rough with a misfire & the engine management light is flashing. The car is still drivable but it's obviously down on power. The car has had a slight hesitation lately when the engine is cold but this was intermittant so we just put that down to the damp & cold weather.

Any idea where to start with this...what would be the first thing to check any tips or tricks to get me going?

Cheers.

Don't keep driving it while it is misfiring or you will be forking out for a new catalyst in a few weeks time.
Yes a good start would be a new coil pack + set of spark plugs.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

Went out this morning turned the key and it started up straight away with no rough running and no engine management light.

Whipped the plugs out for a look and they all looked fine, I'll get a new set anyway and stick them in when I get a chance.

Took the car for a run to get it up to temperature to see if the fault would come on, but it didn't and all was fine.

Do the coil pack problems normally start intermittently ?
