Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Car came to me for a routine check over and fit some spheres.. Rear spheres, all 3 thats the two corners and a centre sphere were ordered from AEP Glasgow.

my AUTODATA disc says 320Nm = 235.99 lb/ft this is for a 1.9TD,

i find my two foot knuckle bar is just the right tool for the job, bring the nut round as tight as you can, then check the R clip locking cap fits with two oposite holes in line with the slots in the cap,

I've just had a new exhaust fitted on my ZX 1.9D, for the MOT. I took the car for a test drive, and heard a rattle from the exhaust at about 70 mph. It sounded like I'd hit a speed which set off a resonant frequency.

Thanks for the replies. The garage adjusted the exhaust mounts this morning. I've taken it for a test drive and all the problems have been fixed. The rattle at 70 mph has gone. Is it possible to replace the lower wishbone ball joint on the dispatch, or is it a hydrolic press out press in job.
Also where to get them from, I googled lower wishbone ball joint and it only come up with complete wishbone assembly.
These look cheap enough, but my budget is very tight at the moment so just the ball joint would be good....

Do i have to remove the metal pipe it attaches to, and what about the corrugated pipe that fits to the egr valve?

That looks like the one-way valve that doesn’t need removing unless there’s exhaust escaping through it.
The EGR valve is item 1, while item 6 is the one-way valve.
The picture is of the petrol car where they use an EGR electrovalve.
Most diesels have a vacuum-operated EGR valve with a single thin pipe.

ASR warning light on my C5 doesn't light up with ignition on as it's supposed to. Also nothing happens (that I can tell) when I press ASR switch.

Just finished putting my 98 dispatch back together.
Bought it with a dead engine, so counted on getting another engine.
Got another engine for a mere £40 :o .It was a bare engine with EVERYTHING removed except tensioners and belt.It was out of a well serviced TD ZX.
So spent a few days changing everything over from the old non turbo engine....

Hi all, my Xantia 1.9 TD coughs out blue smoke occasionally on start up and soon clears - first thought is valve stem oil seals but why would it be only sometimes - usually after a few hours' wait rarely first start of the day and even then, it's only sometimes it burns oil.

Anyone been here before?

I think you will find the relay, a black box affair, close to the battery, bolted to the inner wing near the battery's main earthing point. Just be careful when playing with it, because I don't think the feed to the relay is fused. The wiring is thick because the glowplugs take 12-20 amps each (the current drawn tails off as the glowplugs heat up)

You describe the sound as being a knocking from the front suspension, and you've eliminated various components as being the problem. Is it the roads/potholes/bumps causing the problem, or is it only when you have left/right lock on, in which case could it be wear in the CV joints? Just a thought.

The passenger mirror I believe adjusts when reverse selected.

I have rear the manual and done as it says, when I select reverse you can see the glass twitching but not moving down to thw position pre set.

Sometimes with the engine running and in reverse nothing happens when trying to adjust the mirror.

Has anyone got any ideas or had same...

I find it easier to set the LHS mirror to pointing at the rear wheel all of the time and turn off the indexing function. If I need the mirror pointing behind the car to show traffic I adjust manually it saves a lot of grief and swearing

Mine is missing the engine bay undertray and having read some stories about the wheel arch protectors blowing up etc, I'd rather have one made up and installed.
It'd be good if someone can post photos showing how various undertray bits come together.
Depending on how heavy the original is, I could make one up from an ally sheet or glass fibre....

Yep, as Xac says, GSF Amtex ones are good. I have a NOS one here that's a good ten years old and it's lost just 4 bars in all that time...

Good point on the rear accumulator too... So often forgotten as they are both a bit tricky and appear to have no function...

There are only 3 Mk2 racks: V6; HDi 110 / 2.1TD / 2.0 CT; everything else. The later mk1 use the same rack for the 'lesser' variants (part number 4000Z1) so you should be OK.

Chris, the mileages you mention are the point where these FAP filter start to give problems, I'd like to hear the experiences of owners running them beyond 80k miles.

Ours will get there before too long :lol:

I have a Factory Fitted Sat Nav In My 2001 C5 but i Have no Disc For It Does Anyone know Were i Can Get One, As the system Keeps Asking For The Disc Also The Screen Is Monochrome Just So you know what type is fitted i do have a Garmin Sat Nav but it would be nice to get the in car one working

If its a later td xud at around 1996 citroen made things sooooo much worse!! They added a bolt to the turbo out hose that bolts to the back of the inlet... They also made the hose an all plastic single hose and bolted it to the outlet flange of the turbo.. One boltcis fine to get too the other is a right p**s take with the inlet in place!!!

If it is the camlp on the steering rack then you will get a rattling/chatter through the steering wheel over rought surfaces. Are you getting this?

Very kindly, my father in law has given the lady and I a Citroen C5 diesel, 2004, 2.0 HDi. It's just passed 145,000 miles and the servicing light has come on.

A new one for me, at least on PSA motors.

Its shaft bearings collapsed, lunching the pressed metal impeller. The now-canted pump sprocket threw its timing belt, bending all sixteen valves in the Xsara which held it. I saw this on Thursday at a mate's workshop; they were asking me about replacement valves.

A good reason to change the water pump...

Actually, it was not a bad car really, if I'm totally honest. It took an awful lot of abuse towing and it was terribly neglected.. The kids were young and there was no real time to give it TLC; it just soldiered on and on really doing a good job as a family hack...

is there anything in the modern sealants range that will tolerate exhaust manifold temperatures.?
and what would be best to use as an inlet manifold sealant?

Don't knw about exhaust manifolds but for pretty well everything else I use ordinary silicone sealant. If you apply it to one surface the night before you want to reassemble, it forms a nice soft rubber gasket that doesn't accidentally scrape off.

Boyfriend has got a T reg petrol Xantia. He changed the front brake hoses a few weeks ago and now there is a shuddering at all speeds when the brakes are applied but more so when brakes are applied harshly.

Grandpa blew his clutch the other day, gearbox was fine before this, now after having new clutch kit put in, its extremely stubborn to get into 1st, any other gear (incl Reverse) is no problem.

Apparently he tried forcing it into 1st seconds before loosing drive and coming to a halt...

Is the issue likely to be a bent selector, and if so, is it...

I've known them full of EP90 and it makes gear changes a nightmare on a cold morning... I've also known them filled with ATF.. That's not a good recepie either...
So a 50-50 mix should do it then? :roll: :roll: :roll:

Do you have an older C5? is it pristine? are you planning on keeping it for a while?
Then if you have never done it take the plastic sills covers off (it's an easy job) and be prepared to be amazed / surprised / horrified.

Tip before starting this ensure you have a can of waxoil or similar ready.

last year I had to have my year 2001 607 welded. I was really shocked and disappointed.
The floor had split away from the sill near a front jacking point which was folded flat by some previous owner's abuse.
The car is fine and the welding is in a place that isn't visible, but obviously it's not galvanised any more.

can a c5 be driven with a wheel missing?

Ok - silly question time.
I've seen clips of GS & DS being driven with one rear wheel missing (in fact, one clip was an actual TV ad for GS, doing a slalom).
I'm curious to know if C5 is capable of doing that.

My Xantia has decided not to start but....I think it could be the fuel pump but not 100% sure.
When you turn ignition key to lights the hum you normally hear when this happens is no longer there (over the last few days the hum has been a few tones lower than normal, like it's failing) and then when you turn key to start it just turns over with out...

I have been getting the full house of problems with the brakes.

Initially, the car showed the classic signs of trapped air in the brakes: scary delay in action and the tail lifting up once the front brakes finally bite. I bled the living hell out of them and all was good.

Next, I get occasional grab on the front as though one side is braking...

If you notice this on a smooth road surface giving a little feedback through the steering wheel and disappearing above say 15-20 mph with no appreciable wheel wobble at higher speeds then I would put it down to a wheel rim being very slightly out of true in some way.

Hey all on this drizly weekend!

The orange light on the dash, top leftish, looks like a dodgy £ sign or summat..that's the oil level ain it?!

It's been flashing on in the mornings,5 seconds ish. This is at 4am in the cold dark rainy mornings, so of course I just left it :twisted:

Is it actually necessary to index the steering pinion valve?

I haven't good enough pictures of any bits, to see if it should matter or not. There were no match marks on it (I looked hard before reassembling the steering rack).

So - anyone care to comment?

Hi All.. Directed towards XUD TD drivers.. but could be for anyone.

I had a customer car with a fuel drainage problem.. However, it was NOT an obvious problem.

The car would drain fuel from the pump back after a few hours! would always go with a re-prime.

check all the obvious, leak offs, return pipes, feed pipes, the Loop pipe on the rear.....

On the XM RHD version there are two seperate hydraulic sections.
They join at a fit once connector on the drivers side of the passenger foot well.
Some sort of piston arrangement that transmits mechanically between the two hydraulic sections. Both sections need checking for the leak. The top end has a resovoir with lid fixed to the...

as the title says this's pretty much the problem, i checked the pipes looks like nothing's wrong with them, i'm gonna change the LHM and clean the filters, the car rises fine the STOP light goes off within seconds, I changed the accumulator Sphere couple of thousand KMs ago.
There's a buzz that comes from the Hydraulic pump when turning the...

Since I don't have a passenger side airbag I never had to deal with the BSI but the glove box, YES :roll:
I had to get it out so that I was able to change the mobile phone hands free device.

It's easy job, just unscrew the T20 screws which have a soft hat around them. When all screws are
done, pull the glove box (I have 2, lower and upper) out...
