C5 overhaul, & injector reconditioning services?

Post by RustyUK »

Greetings all,

Can anybody recommend (or warn against) any injector / pump reconditioning specialists, particularly around the Leeds / Doncaster area? There's a few companies doing this nationwide, but I sense not all to high standards.

I've embarked on a project to put my C5 2.2Hdi (150k) back on the road following a clutch bearing / DMF failure at Christmas, and a few other niggles. So far all has gone well - engine is removed (along with so many other parts!) with minimal mishap. Injectors removed surprisingly easily! Before the clutch / DMF gave out, it had been giving low fuel pressure faults at idle, which could be excessive leak-off, among other possible candidates obviously. My plan is to throw some love and money at this rather than toss it out and start over with something unknown (and more expensive). It'll receive a new flywheel / clutch / head gasket / belts etc, re-con injectors / HP pump /turbo and change a few other bits, such as replacing the leaky steering rack lines and attempt cleaning of the DPF.

I'll be documenting as much as I can so if anyone has any need for pictures of anywhere awkward or inaccessible, I'm happy to take requests! It's certainly great fun and fascinating getting inside this engine at last.

Hi is this a mk1 2.2 if so I will be following what happens.

Recently changed the engine in mine and also replace the flywheel and clutch and various new parts.

Yep, this is an MK1 2.2 They seem to have something of a bad rep round these parts, but I absolutely love it for power and comfort (a little more economy would be nice, though!) It hasn't been too unreliable up until now either - it's just a matter of being willing to understand and research how everything works (and having a lexia is quite essential too).

What flywheel / clutch did you put into yours? I was looking at various solid conversion kits, but turns out http://www.carparts4less.co.uk (who seem to a re-branded and often much cheaper eurocarparts) do a LUK DMF for around £225 (same part around £290 at ECP!) and LUK clutch for around £110 (~£150 at ECP), making both cheaper than any solid kit I can find. I'm inclined to go that route at the moment.

Not sure what went in mine, the parts were at trade price and again unsure of cost.

I knackered my engine (floods) and insurance paid for a rebuild but instead I got a replacement engine from a 40k 607 and fitted many new part, flywheel, clutch, maf sensor etc.

I would not fit a solid conversion, I noticed my gear change is very smooth now as there was some play in the old dual mass.
