Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Had an hour spare, so thought I would try to install the relay repair to get the fan heater working on my Xantia again.

Well typical me, fallen at point 1 of the instructions. Remove the lower Shroud.

Got the two torx screws out and managed to seperate the section nearest the centre of the car, but cannot remove the bit by the ignition...

on a hdi dave?? its not much harder then a td except the belt tensioning.. id recomend getting the belt KIT as hdi pullys are stupid plastic ones..

i do cam belts water pumps as a job for about 100 plus parts.. crank pully is a nautral change as it has to come off anyway..

you would have to go and see yur indys for prices but a reckon about 250...

Hi i have a 2000 Citroen synergie 2.0 hdi which has done 14000 miles and up untill recently has been very reliable.

about three weeks ago it cut out while my wife was driving it, she managed to restart it a couple of times but it eventually died.
the engine light was on and when the AA came out they said it was a low pressure fault at the rail?....

hi all,

my c5's dumped about a litre of coolant after i drove to my mum's place - today and a week ago.
it's about 15 minutes of 50kph town driving (not that much of stop start) and 10 minutes of 50-70kph of hilly winding road.
if the water temp gauge is to be believed, it's sitting at dead centre (as it does most of the times, except for morning...

I bought a tin of gunk recently, last time I used Gunk it was a fairly thick brownish colour, smelt(to my nose nice) sort of earthy. It was good stuff! when you washed it off it left a milky residue.
The stuff I bought the other day was nothing like it! It was exactly like red diesel! smelt, felt and tasted.

I can get celouse thinners for £4.5 for five lts, that works well but evapourates too quick.

Took my £500, 178,000 mile Xantia HDi 110 in for it's health check today. I knew I was going to need a couple of tyres soon so had that done before the test.

The test itself only threw up one failure point. Looks like the car has been incorrectly jacked up on the nearside rear at some point in it's life and a small hole punched in the floor. SO...

Ive just brought a 1998 1.8 diesel Berlingo Van and it has a bad lack of power. Hills have me changing down through the gears with my foot on the floor, the most i get on a motorway is 60mph and if a small hill comes along i can be down as low as 45mph.

Might not seem like much to you but not easy here in frozen France (even in unfrozen France) as I have been looking everywhere. Only cost 9 Euros for 2L too.

The table or glowplug times explains it all very well.
So in my current case, air temp -4 at the moment so car the same, the plugs should come on for 0.5s so got to be fast to see it. More important they stay on for 10s if I don't turn the starter. So I would be best to wait 10 seconds before starting to allow them to heat a little. I usually wait...

Are there any other reasons why the STOP light would be showing on a Xantia when driving, obviously other that suspension/fluid issues??

Basic situation is got a mate to look at a Xantia Hdi for me (distance thing), and he says the STOP light was on whilst driving. Could just need a top up of fluid, but just wondered if there were any other...

you should of also changed the cable from the altinator to starter to battery... give that cable a wiggle and bend IF you can. . if its stiff at all which it sometimes is near the battery then that too will cause a high resistance and starting and charging problems...

if that cable is really bad it will get warm even with just the engine running...

hi all,
had the car hooked up to diagnostics and esp & cc in-op problem is most likely to be hardware problem (wiring / esp ecu).
i doubt i'd use cc all that much (although would be convenient on occasion) and could live without esp, so i'd like to remove the switches.

Hi, my series 1 Xantia passed its m.o.t. but the mechanic said, he could fail its mot on emissions ! its very smokey! you need to buy some cata clean . I'm the unlucky owner of a s.h.-bought Xantia s2 1.8 16v with an auto transmission. Lately the immobilizer has started to be triggered randomly and the only way to fix that has been to tow it to a local repairman to have the key re-paired.

Hi Guys , have done a search but cannot find this exact issue anywhere .

My heater fan usually only works when in the 'max' position and even then cuts out and restarts at times .
The car has a/c which i never use .

sounds like the regulators knackered to me its a the chip on the back of the motor, it controls the speed of the motor, can get them off of a scrapyard for about £15 each they dont like to guarantee them though because the brushes wear out and the regulators go when they get to hot.

It is an unpleasant surprise to notice that tailgate lock doesn't work

All other doors are locking and unlocking. There is a clear motor sound from the tailgate each time I click buttons on the key, i.e. not a broken wire case.

Thinking positive, it's LOCKED :)

I'll try to check tomorrow day time. Has anyone experienced the same? Any ideas?

if you know you want to open the boot before you get out of the car, open drivers door and reach across and push down the
front passengers side door lock which will lock/unlock the central locking mechanism on all doors, the system senses that one door is still open ie your drivers door and unlocks the mechanism, repeat pressing the button down...

Hi, Iam unable to open the boot on my series 1 Xantia ! It appears to have locked itself ! the other four doors are ok, but the boot apears to be locked . anyone got any ideas how to open it? cheera Terry . :?

easy to open the boot if the catch gets stuck just open your drivers door leave it open and reach across and press down the lock on the passenger front side the locks will lock/ unlock themselves because they sense a door open do repeat this action until you hear the boot unlock, it still happens to me occasionally but not if I keep the battery...

Done a search on this and cant find anything to confirm either way.

Will the seats from an S1 Xantia fit into an S2 Xantia. No side airbags or electrics, just standard seats.
Can remember reading that the door cards fit (with a bit of jiggery pokery), but cant remember about the seats themselves.

Hi, has anyone had experience with replaceing chrome door trims? Every Citroen I`ve had has suffered with manky trims!
It measures about 16mm X 3mm, so its not so bulky as the XM, and looks fairly straightfoward!
Any idea where I can get about 4mts? the curved fronts are OK.
I`m not going to robdog Citroen!!

I went around a breakers yard and from about 6 scrapped Xantias managed to find a set of 4 door trims with good strips. Removing and installing the strips is much easier if the whole trim assembly is gently prised off the door, and they slide out forwards of backwards.

I managed to convince various Citroen dealers across the country to sell me...

Afternoon!

I've been advised by addo from memory that the OE supplier of brake discs for a S1 Xantia is Brembo.

Question is -

Has anyone ever bought OE discs from Citroen and do they have any stampings on the discs to state Brembo or otherwise?

I have been offered some cheap discs all round for the Xantia so was going to try it to a belated...

Anyone know how to remove ZX bumper trim/insert ? Tried from the front but looks impossible without damaging the trim. Do i need to remove the bumpers and do it from behing?

I went to the petrol station last night and put £20 in my c4 and the gauge never showed the petrol just added ???

Perhaps it was running on fumes [-X and £20 quids-worth isn't enough to get the gauge off the empty stop? :shock:

More seriously, either the gauge or the sender is stuck. If my Xantia is filled to the brim, the gauge needle sticks on F until the panel is given a sharp tap (with a finger!). Or it could be that the complicated electronics are...

hi people well last week the suspention burst a pipe on my c5 2.0 hdi 2002 so taken it to the garage n had it repaired at a cost of £310 :( n then the mechanic told me that i have a anti roll bar link totally missing on the front drivers side (previous owner must have removed it) so im just wandering if anyone caqn tell me where the part thats...

It'll go from the end of the ARB to the front strut. If you look at the nearside you'll see a mirror image of what's missing. The previous owner probably removed the O/S link before sale because the ball joint(s) were shot and rattling. Someone with knowledge of the C5 will be along before too long with more specific info.

Hi all, ok finally found time to retreive the codes...any help re these would be greatly appreciated. My gearbox when sitting in N/P for a while goes into limp mode.....

AL4:

intermitten fault - pressure regulator - code 06

- modulation - code 76
electrovalve output short circuit to +

All the problems point to a dodgy electrical connection between the ECU and the gearbox.

I'd remove the battery and then break, check and clean where necessary, the connector to the gearbox ECU and the connector onto the transmission as a first step. If this does not help, the finger of suspecion must point to the multifunction switch, given the...

Yup the useual UJ.. KEEP on top of that joint give it a dose once a week to help loosen it up..

Sounds like you caught it just in time, they can get that bad that even a dose of WD wont help, and it needs removing from the car to free up properly..

Interesting MOT, Failed on front No. plate(passed last year), blocked washer jet(passed last year, and have been asking them to blow it out for the last 4 years), and drop link ball joint dust cover deteriorated.
For the drop link they want to charge £10 ish parts and £70 labour. My local Citroen indy wants £30 parts(OE), and £20 labour.

I think one of the GPs is out on my S2 Xantia TD as all of a sudden its coughing a bit and smoking for a few seconds on a cold morning start.

Changed these on my BXs, but access on the Xant looks terrible! Can hardly even see them.

I've disabled it in both the Xantia and C5. In both cases the unit was behind the glovebox. You have to cut the power supply rather than unplug it altogether because the speakers run through it.

One or (possibly both) of my front wheel bearings is starting to get noisy. Are there any tricks tips in the replacement process? Specifically how do I get the circlip off?
Also should the impending bearing failure noise dissapear when loaded going round the appropriate bend? All my other bearings have, but this one/these don't go quiet.

Can anyone help, I've just got my lexia installed and activated and it seems to connect to my C5 2.0 HDI ok and reads the VIN OK but then it prompts me to enter the RPO ? I'm probably being stoopid but what is the RPO? Software doesn't let me go any further :(

The lexia software version is at v5.31.

If your car is older, the number starts with a 0, this is omitted in the number, so 09867 would be 9867.
If it starts wit a 1, ie 10987, then enter it all ie 10987. I find Picasso's are the most critical if you enter the wrong RP no.

Hi can anyone tell me the size hydraulic pump o ring, its the large one, 36 or 44mm Pt No 402686. Citroen wants over £10, and wont sell me less than 10!

About 2 weeks ago I managed to dislodge the red LED alarm warning light from it's position next to the digital clock, on the dashboard. The plipper's not worked for a while so I don't think it was even coming on.No problem,just a hole where it was.This may or may not be connected to the following.

Soooo, 1996 Xantia 1.9TD Estate with Bosch injector pump...
