immobiliser problem C5 1.8 Petrol 2003 03

Post by myc5 »

Hello everyone I have just joined this forum...........I hope someone will be able to help me please. I have a C5 1.8 petrol estate 2003 03. Today I was checking the fuses which are in the passanger glovebox. I pulled out some of the mini fuses which were OK then I came to a bigger fuse amongst the mini fuses, this bigger normal size fuse has HS or SH on it and has printed on it "DAV" 32v it is grey in colour with a green plastic side. Anyway when I removed this to check it, I found that the immobiliser has kicked in, it had cut most of the power too! Now I can not start the car although all the power is OK. So how do I reactivate the car/ immobiliser.....cause I am stuck!!
Oh by the way the reason I was checking the fuses is that I have the anti pollution warning signs and service lights come on, I can extinguish these as I have a resetting tool, but I was told that a fuse may have blown which is connected to the "secondary air valve" for the emmissions, thus causing the warning lights to come on!! Another issue which I will ask for help after I have sorted the none starting issue!!!!!!

Thanks everyone

Hi, thanks for your quick reply, however I have no idea was a lexia is!!? I probably live a distance from most members, I live on Isle of Skye an island in the north west highlands of Scotland, we are connected by a bridge so no ferries!! Are you familiar with the HS/ SH fuse?

The fuse you pulled is probably the SHUNT fuse (hence SH). I remember quite some time back I had a Xsara Picasso (another company car), and one day I got back to it after a call to find she was playing up (and wouldn't start). When the RAC came out to me, the engineer pulled that fuse, and left it out for at least a minute to allow things to clear down, which they did, and he advised me that if it did it again to pull the fuse again. You might want to try that. If that doesn't work there is a post on this forum somewhere about changing a C5 battery, and the steps you have to follow to make sure everything works properly;

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... ry#p340291" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Maybe that would help reset the systems. However, I would check with an expert first (you can usually find them somewhere on this forum) to make sure this won't make things worse. I am NOT an expert, but I enjoy learning, and as I have to fix problems on Gracie I have found this forum an invaluable source of information.

The Lexia is a combination of a hardware unit that links a PC (better a laptop, for live data while driving) to the car (usually the diagnostics port near the interior fuse panel) and the software to run it. The experts on this forum can almost make a Citroen sit up and dance when they get to playing with them.

Oh, I know that, but I suggested a laptop for the mobility factor. As I went on to say, a Lexia can, in the hands of an expert, make a Citroen get up and dance! They can get every iota of data that a Citroen has got to offer, and show it to you in a way that makes sense (well, to the experts, not us mere mortals!).

This is all very well going on about the Lexia, but it is not helping myc5. Any ideas? My Picasso was a 54 reg, and I don't know if the advise I offered is valid on a C5. I get the impression that he needs his car back working in a hurry (well, who wouldn't, especially where you are out in the wilds of the Highlands). Is it worth PMing any of the experts?

as far as i can gather from around about 2000 they are all pretty much the same operateing system just some have more equipment than others so yes what you sugested is worth a try as for pm an expert they have to be on here to read the pm so it is more than likely they have read this thread if they are online.

When you PM somebody they will get an e-mail (if they have set one up in their details) to let them know they have received a PM. I know, because I have received them in the past.

Are you 100% sure the fuses are all back in the right place ?? there are normally a few blank spaces for equipment that is not fitted to the car, you may have taken a critical fuse out & replaced it back in the wrong position. I would first suggest getting the handbook for the car & checking the fuses are all in the right place.
Does it either say 'engine imobiliser fault' on the dash display or is the little orange 'key' light on on the dash ? Did you have the ignition on when you removed the shunt (SH) fuse ? Do you have a spare key you can try ? does the remote central locking still work ?
Once you have confirmed all the fuses are in the right places the only thing i can suggest without the need for Lexia is try a BSI reset, Follow this procedure exactly.
Make sure the key is out of the ignition then open the bonnet & close all the doors.
Wait at least 3 minutes (during this 3 minutes do not open any doors or press the remote buttons)
Disconnect both the battery terminals (negative first)
Wait at least 3 minutes & then re connect the battery terminals (negative last)
Once the battery is reconnected wait another 3 minutes then lock the car with the key (not the remote) then unlock it again after 20 seconds.
open the door & switch the ignition on, wait 10 seconds & try & start it.
If that doesent work then im afraid you may need Lexia.
