Xantia HP pumps

Post by Old-Guy »

Does anyone know please if the HP pumps on the 2.1 VSX (1997 MY) and the 1.9TD (1995 MY) are likely to be interchangeable?
The VSX has a nice new shiney one, but that on the 1.9 weeps slightly. Plan would be to put the new one on the 1.9 once she's back on the road, then overhaul the leaky pump before putting it on the VSX. Can't have a leaky one on the VSX as it's above the alternator (daft arrangement)...

Hi Old Guy,

I'm sure the answer is no, my reasoning is as follows:

The pump shaft will be a different size and the pulley will be a different size.

As the pumps between my old 1.9TD and 2.0 Hdi have dfferent shafts fitted.

Pleades would be able confirm same as it was him who told me te difference between my xantia's.

Personally I wouldn't swap the pumps over without fitting new seals even if they were interchangeable.

Once you've gone to the trouble to get the pump out of the car and into a vice its half an hours work tops to fit the new seals. Just because the VSX pump isn't currently leaking doesn't mean it won't in the near future, so swapping it without changing the seals is false economy.

My pump started leaking completely out of the blue at 105k, and by the time I noticed any drips on the ground it had given my alternator a good LHM bath, enough that I think the alternator is now getting a wee bit whiny and could be slowly on its way out. #-o

If you're going to take the pump out and fit new seals you may as well just fit new seals in the existing pump and put it back!

i would prefer to fit new bung seals with the pump still attached to the car, as it holds it far better than a vice,
and most of the time its only the top most bung seals leaking,

spotted this on fleabay

i think its for a sinker,

what system is on your 1.9TD
as that would be another difference that could make it not viable to swap pumps from one to the other
