Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have noticed from under the car, on the passenger side, the inside brake disc surface is not being polished the full length of the pad. The polished braking surface is about half of the drivers side. The car also pulls slightly to the left...

Could this be just down to the pad being tight in the pad carriage or something else?

What's this all about? Can I disable it? Seems to be invoked pretty quickly meaning I can't sit in the car on wet campsites and listen to the radio. Have to turn the engine on to do anything.

I fitted an aftermarket head unit so took a power feed directly off the fuse box in the passenger side, I suppose you could just alter the existing harness by cutting the power feed, crimping on a female bullet (to the car side of the harness) then crimp a male bullet onto the radio side of the harness and run a seperate feed from the fusebox and...

Hi any help with this problem would be gratefully appreciated....Had the car from new been a great car no problems until now
car starts fine hot or cold but when car started from cold runs sluggish/hesitant /erratic seems like slight missing as soon as engine reaches normal running temp she runs fine again no problems ..been serviced as per book...

When did you last have a battery? Is it the original from 2006? That may be an issue

On my 1.6 hdi I have had glow plugs changed. Hdi will start without them working properly. I changed them because the lexia said something wrong with them.

Reading another post on here got me thinking;

My early Xantia sinker has always made a hissing noise when running at idle. It appears to start after the pump cuts out for the first time after the pressure has been built up and the car has risen to normal ride height.

I think (although I'm not totally sure from memory) it goes away when the pump...

And yet my CX is nearly silent from the exterior despite all the extra hydraulics for the DIRAVI steering. On the inside however! the steering wheezes in one direction and hisses in the other which causes much amusement to new passengers (after they get over the dashboard and ride sensation that is - which they don't!)

OKay I have mentioned before on my c5 lx hdi 110 that the suspension lights come on with a beep occasionally. All of them at once. It seems to be when I am using other electrics like putting on main beam sometime indicating. I just drive through it.

I've done 2 hatchbacks before - including the first where the rear brakes were so gummed up I had to cut the pad bolt and drift the remains out of the caliper, and saw one of the brake pads in half to free it from the caliper - and not had that much trouble with getting the bolts out. But, I set off to tackle the estate on Saturday and the bolts...

Yep, that's a pukka S2 wheel Mike...

S1 wheels are different, nicer looking but a jolly sight harder to keep clean. The S1 wheels are unique to the S1 V6 and were based on a 5-stud XM design. You'll see Chris570's XM V6 has them...

The Xantia S1 wheels are known as Magny Cours. I have a spare set from my old original V6. I put S2 wheels on it...

Out today and the STOP light and the (!) next to it came on, so as all seemed ok I drove straight home. I was in the wilds of France so a careful drive home seemed the sensible thing to do. When I got within 1km of home the light went out, typical.....

I read info here and then read my workshop manual and seems low LHM is the problem, I had a 1L...

Hi all, I have an early xantia (sinker fdv) when I press the brake pedal it vibrates, you can keep the same pressure applied to the pedal and it seems as if the brakes apply pressure then momentarily they give slightly then apply again if you know what I mean!? Car rises fine from cold, very quickly, fdv doesn't hiss much, accumulator sounds fine!...

All went well thanks to info on this site though I found that I had to remove the HP and ECU to be able the see the damned thing and actually get access. There was a thread regarding C5 ride height and it can be altered to owners' preference using Lexia.
What other configurations have others changed that were found to be useful?
E.g., is it possible to re-assign a switch to a different function (e.g. say, cruise control stalk switches to operate air conditioning or operate sports mode or...

The Lexia is limited to what it can do, it can turn on any accessories which your car was not fitted with, it can also disable things you might not want (silly tyre pressure sensors for example). However it can not reprogram the switches or anything in anyway similar.

Its is a very useful diagnostic tool, but will only get your car to standard...

Having had the C5 for just over a month now, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

I do have a couple of questions which I hope you can help with.

1. I found a small diameter rubber hose about a foot long hanging underneath the engine try. I soon realised it wasn't connected to anything. Any ideas where it might have come from?

The short pipe/hose is the fuel pump drain hose - thanks for that.

On the advice of a friend, a triple dose of Millers fuel additive was added to the tank. That was 10 days ago. Not had the problem for a week now.

I've had my Hdi90 for over 3 years and have always kept an accurate (full-to-full) check on fuel consumption. That's over 40,000 miles.

Three weeks ago I fitted a tuning box and adjusted the setting until I was happy with the improved performance. For this particular car that was setting 8 out of 10.

Am I correct in thinking that the both Hydractive and non Hydractive Mk1 Xantias have the same suspension cylinders on the front. I realise that they are handed side to side but do all cars take the 5271-61 and 5271-71 cylinders?

fwiw: I had a leak from the throttle spindle on my ZX with a Lucas/CAV pump. So I bought a pack of assorted O rings from a local DIY place and there were a couple exactly the right size. It's been OK for the last two and a half years... 8-)

Asking because I have seen two in a fortnight present with oil in the water. One at 200K kilometres (~120K miles) the other at 385K (approx 235K miles).

Do the gaskets fail, or does the head corrode away at the gasket interface?

I think if you skin the rear seat it should be possible to install on the other type frame. Small patches would need placing to cover the latch cut out areas. Hog ring pliers make the refitting easy.

Hi all,

After the fun at MOT time I've sorted the rear brakes working fine now

Had a look at the rear caliper I removed previously and found some serious score marks on one piston.

My questions is, How did this happen :?:

The seals are looking okay.

Any thoughts.

I'm not sure if this is even worth a thread, but I'm dithering on which car polish to buy next. You see about 15 years ago I had a job lot of Turtle Wax polish and I've been slowly, about 4 times a year working my way through it. I find it all quite funny really, when I took the XM in for an MOT I had to show him where the parking brake release was and with the Prius he said 'I can't emissions test this' because the Prius shutdown the engine and just sat there. Both passed fine.

The C3 has been smoking a bit on startup recently, so I asked the garage to take a look at the glowplugs when it was in for service and MOT. They rang tonight and said that one of the glowplugs had snapped when they were attempting removal. Don't know as yet how much it will cost to remove the head and send it away to get the plugs out.

ok this might be a it of dumbass question but here it is anyway.
so, i'm told that c5 lowers its ride height by 10 odd mm above 110kph, and raises back at 90kph.
so in theory if i drive up to 110kph and slow down to just above 90kph on motorway cruise (obviously on the slower lane), i should be able to get the best fuel economy, correct?

Hi all.
I have a bit of a problem with my 1999 hdi Xantia in that it seems to have got quite sluggish recently. No engine management lights on or smoke or anything. I think turbo is working as i can hear it whistle when accelerating, just seems to have lost all it,s go, especially when climbing hills/overtaking.
I,m thinking maybe a split turbo...

Come to think of it I think one of the pipes at the back of the engine is quite oily, think it,s at a joint where pipe disappears in the direction of turbo if memory serves me correctly!! will have a look there first i think!!

So now that the ZX has gone I need some new wheels, I went to see a 406TD today but was rather disappointed (see the Pug forum) so I've turned my attention to a nice looking Xant exclusive HDi.
Going to give the seller a ring tomorrow and arrange a viewing, anything specific I should be careful of?

Well after many years i needed another car for a runabout so bought a nice little citroen zx 1.9 diesel auto.
Its a great car and i love it to bits.its got the bosch pump fitted too so loves my biodiesel.
My only gripe is the auto box.....it not like my auto box on merc 250 thats for sure.

In the past I've complained about harsh suspension on my X2 HDi, even after a complete change of all spheres and LHM etc. It works fine over large amplitude bumps etc but on sharp edged ridges etc it's quite harsh. The other day though, I had raised the suspension to full height to access the underside, then lowered it, but with the engine not...

Hi Malcolm,

The idea, apparently (Mr. Haynes) is that you press the stainless blade in and use the key as a type of puller...great when they have been in and out a few times and lubricated, but not when out for the first time (in ages) and are gummed up with crud, old hard grease and a bit of corrosion.
