Re: air bag light mot fail??
cheers mike, I thought so, but something i found looking on the net,said that if the light isn't lighting up, ie when the ignition is turned on,then it will fail also for that,but another said air bag light on=fail, no light at all =advise and pass?? won't matter to him but point is it all seems a bit confusing.......and probably costly,lol

Re: air bag light mot fail??
That's incorrect according to the MOT manual available here - http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4_int.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Point 2 seems to say that if the light doesn't work and it should, it fails..
Reason for Rejection
1. An airbag obviously missing or defective.
Note: A passenger airbag that has been
switched off is not a Reason for Rejection.
2. A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS)
malfunction indicator lamp:
• inoperative
• indicating a system malfunction.

Re: air bag light mot fail??
I would agree with that mike,although wayne works with mot's....surely if the air bag light fails to light when the ignition is turned on,then it isn't working properly?? very confusing to be honest........even all these scenics for sale on e bay with electronic handbrake fault,even if the handbrake works correctly,that also fails.....found it on vosa governemnt website.....It all points to your wallet in the end??

Re: air bag light mot fail??
The problem is that, while a warning light indicates a problem, a failed warning light ALSO indicates a problem! When I first got Gracie the ABS warning light stayed on, but the side airbag light DIDN'T come on at all. When I replaced all the instrument panel lights the side airbag light then stayed on, indicating a fault (which turned out to the nearside airbag ECU not responding). There was no way an MoT tester could have known I had two problems related to the side airbags.

Re: air bag light mot fail??
Under section 5.4 it does not mention it needs to light up. Where are you reading?
We ages ago failed a bmw for airbag light on. He returned with the light disabled so my colleague called vosa to see where we stood and was told to advise.

I was reading the pdf I downloaded back in 2012, and it says in 5.4 there.waynedance wrote:Under section 5.4 it does not mention it needs to light up. Where are you reading?

Just downloaded it again, and it's not there, so they must have removed that bit! My mistake,

Re: air bag light mot fail??
Just before the new regs came in, I had a Xantia tested with the airbag light on, and got an advisory, I was chatting to the tester, and I said I suppose that will be a fail next time, and he said yes, but if you put a piece of tape over the instruments so the light cant be seen, then that is just an advisory, and the tester is not allowed to remove the tape, unlike an ABS light where the same trick would result in a fail.

Re: air bag light mot fail??
ridiculous that though isn't it? the guy with the bmw has obviously taken the bulb out and the air bag system,which I would think is one of the most important safety features on a car,still doesn't work,but still passes an mot......and the tape thing is class....would that still work wayne?? putting a piece of tape over the instrument panel so the light can't be seen? makes a mockery of the whole thing,although it's worth knowing if it works??

If that was the case then that would be a bit of a problem for thousands of mk1 C5 owners then as anything above LX spec doesn't have an airbag warning light, a message just comes up on the central display if there is a fault with the system & the service light illuminates. There is no light that comes on with the ignition.Northern_Mike wrote:That's incorrect according to the MOT manual available here - http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4_int.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
