Saxo transponder problem

Post by JohnD »

For a couple of months my Saxo's immobilizer light occasionally flashes and although the engine turns over, it won't start. Usually removal of the key and a wiggle of the steering wheel corrects it and away it goes. This morning no amount of key removing would get it going. An hour later, it started first try. Can anyone tell me how to deactivate the immobilizer? The car doesn't have an alarm on it.

I can almost guarantee you that it is the key Ariel at fault. This is the plastic suround around the ignition barrel. Unscrew the column shroud 2x Torx 20 screws, and then you will see the transponder Ariel, around the barrel.
A new one is about £17 (last time I bought one) .
Pull the old one off & unplug it, simply plug in the new one and away you go :D

Agreed its most likely the aerial but to deactivate it you need to get it running first then unplug the black immobiliser box up behind the glovebox while its running (same idea as the keypad system).

Another vote for the transponder aerial. They can sort of tarnish internally (take the old one apart but not until you have a new one and its working!) to see what I mean.

The 'box o tricks' yes that does work as I've done that too, the most annoying part of that is tying to fit it back into its clip afterwards though. Its slightly easier (not that you'll do this anyway) to pull the clip out after fit it to the unit then push it back as 'one'

Somewhere I have pictures of a disassembled one too.
Andy.

Thanks for that. I'd got the part number but not the price.

Just to bring this topic to a close - I got a new transponder aerial with the price as quoted and twenty minutes or so saw the job completed. A good result, thanks.
