Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Am i just being 'Blonde' in not knowing how to leave them on after locking car up ie at shops etc for a few minutes?
Looked through Handbook, still nothing.

Xantia has gone to the scrappy's after years of service.

Someones offering my a 2004 hdi xsara estate with full year MOT for cheaper than other 2003/04 cars . I can only afford a £500-ish car and this might come in around that.

The rear axle repair bits are about £45 per side (pin and bearing kit); you would be mad not to do both at once. It does require some workshop tooling as the rear beam must be removed and new pins fitted with a press.

It does have dual zone, both sides are the same in regards to the lukewarm temp. Car always seems to come up to full temp, coolant temp gauge to half as normal, and outside temp reads right consistently. Really have no idea.

Anyone had any experience with comfort spheres at all, is there a noticeable difference in ride quality? My C5 tries to emulate a coil sprung car and I was thinking of trying these.

Thanks for pointing out that parts company, it appears they do the comfort spheres for my version. just over £200 for four. :)
I read somewhere about about the anti bottoming out and indeed it is an automatic feature on the rear suspension I have noticed it on speed bumps over and under a certain speed whereby it goes from soft to horse and cart...

Does anyone know if the actual pumps vary between HDi models?
I ask because when renewing the fuel filter on my facelift C5 2.0 HDi 138 yesterday, I noticed just a few brass filings in the housing, so it might soon need a new pump.
Whilst the complete sender assembly is quite expensive, there are old stock units available for previous models,...

If you already have 'brass filings' in the fuel filter housing I'd be looking to change the pump PDQ. If that debris gets in to the high pressure injection pump you could be looking at severe wallet damage :(

Just tried to jack up the car with by the rear sill jacking points but the sill on one side is beginning to bend and collapse as it gets more weight on. I assume it's a symptom of the dreaded rusting door Jamb:-

Had the HDI mot'd on Tues and to my delight it passed!
There was an advisory however that the front lower arm rear bushes both had some play. I called a local indy and he said that as a matter of course they change the whole arm as changing the bushes is difficult, he hasn't yet called back with a price.

Getting it right on the arm in the first place is vital, it is not something that can be adjusted once it is on the car.

A flat board or tabletop would work to do the setting up. But you have to align the bush to the correct angle with the wishbone and you can only get the bush to push on about 2 or 3mm manually. You may have to tap/push it on...

I know what you mean. On a RHD Xantia the socket is in the owners manual/fuse pocket on the drivers side meaning it gets right in the way of driving when plugged in as you can't close the door on the pocket which hangs down near your foot...

it it usually possible to re/use them once by swaping one side for the other ( not always though )
you can also if you are really stuck file the matting surface of the nut down so the peening zone is at a fresh point, as the nut will wind on a bit more dependent on how much you file

hi and thanks in advance i am new on here and just bought an 03 2.0l hdi picasso there is a squeal coming from the front driverside around the altanator it is not there all the time but i have noticed when i have my multi meter connected to battery it reads 14.3 volts but then when the squeal starts it drops to 11.7v any help on this would be...

i would just check your belt and tensioners and idlers first,
if these fail it can and does cause the cam belt to fail, as the aux drive belt winds its way into the cam belt housing and under the cam belt

On an 03 C5....it's the lights on the upper dash, infact the heater, speedo ect are all dim, I did use the button at the speedo but does dam all, well it works yes, but still far to dim, they're all the proper wattage ect, is there maybe a bad earth, if so where's the best place to check

Hi I have an X reg Xantia HDI 140miles, its a pleasure to drive!
I also have an S type Jag 3 ltr auto, between the two, for everyday driving, I prefer the Xantia. Its more stable, certainly more comfortable, and generally feels more predictable and relaxing to drive.

been called in to help out a friend.
OK its a Dispatch with a fiat badge 1.9 non turbo

Timing belt went, took out cam and worse 2 of the camshaft caps so got a recon head fitted by someone who promptly lost intrest and left engine assembled but not running, Friend was positive that the other guy did it all ok other guy wanted to fire the engine...

The HP pump started to leak, I think it is part #3 in the diagram.

Any pre-cautions when taking the pump apart ? What makes me worry is that I cannot hear the pressure regulator ticks ? Can this be related to the leaking pump ? On top of this from time to time a rapid “Tick , Tick, Tick …” can be heard from the pump ? Are these “Ticks”...

The passenger side front window regulator recently gave up on my Tourer and after reading a few posts on the subject I decided to give it a go. I got the cables from Germany off EBAY.

The door panel is not that bad to get off and I found a method on here (transcribed from Russian) posted by bluesumo (thanks).
The shortest cable had rusted...

Success! Thanks to the info. supplied by Keith (fifth_cit), I have modified the repair cables (removed 15 mm of sheath) after which it is relatively easy to assemble the regulator. Gave it a good coating of grease, then re-assembled with the help of my new (£14) rivet tool (for the speaker). Reset the ECU, (again, thanks to Keith for the tip) and...

Hi guys, im a noob here so hopefully you can help.

I have been given a C3 (2003) which is running rough as! Starts first time, then misses like a pig and stalls in idle. If you keep it running, it struggles to reach 40 mph judders and stuff.

Now, im thinking injector problem? Any other advice would be welcome.

As you know i have had a few problems with an height issue with the Xantia.I thought this had been sorted when i put a new Dogbone on.The new problem is that it keeps popping off on one side:(.The side it comes off is not the tightest of fits but i thought it was enough to hold it.Will i have to buy a new or recon unit or have any of you...

Hi all,

Do you use the aftermarket grounding cable in your old Citroen? I thought of installing one to boost the electrical system stability in my C5.

I would to hear your comments and advice.

That one looks a bit too much, I think its made for large audio installations and things.

I have a c5 06 reg 1.6 hdi. The em light came on continuously and initiated limp mode (no turbo). Upon closer inspection I noticed a small pipe hanging loose in engine bay. I was wondering if anyone could shed light on to what it is, and what it does. It's a small rubber ended pipe containing a clear plastic tube, it runs under the oil filter. I...

I see that you need a special tool to unscrew the bosh fuel filter housing on my S2 Citroen Xantia 110 HDI and i was wondering if it can be removed without the tool or use something else . Maybe somebody has a blue print of the tool so i could knock one up in the shed :)

I wouldn't be without one now.

I'm not sure of it on an HDi filter housing though as those teeth can dig in and might damage. I'd much prefer Monkeyfeet's leather one for that task.

Works fine on the C5 and the Berlingo Jim, hardly needed any pressure at all to get them off, and very...

Hi Folks, looking for a bit of advice.

The wifes just been out in the C8 and phoned up distraught. She'd run out of diesel.

I dashed out filled the jerry can and put a gallon in the car. Left it a couple of minutes before trying to start it and then turned the key. It started pretty quickly but after a minute or two the Anti Pollution warning...

I disturbed the orange plugs under the seats fitting some lovely leather seats from an Athena, but now the airbag warning light won't go off. Any ideas?

so , yet another question!

random event - trundling up the A23 yesterday , changed from 4 >5 just north of haywards heath (road works) when `clunk` the pedal falls to the floor!

well first reaction was ` oh s**t that's the cable gone` , pulled into pease pottage services , and pulled the pedal back up... stiff resiatnce and it stayed in place...

Fitted a replacement clutch cable to my TD 30k ago, supplied by GSF, and that clicks at times. Not a click as in noise , but rather something I feel through the pedal. Works OK, so not investigated. Only clicks when I depress the pedal right to the floor.

I've just bought some new spheres from a well known and trusted supplier

They have a manufacture date of 2003. Do spheres deteriorate in storage?

Do all c5 1.6 hdi's have dmf or not as when i put my reg into part finders they come up with three part clutch kit.

As Richard has said, yes it does. Every diesel C5 has a DMF, unfortunately!
I'm pretty sure the 90 bhp HDi doesent have a DMF.

Just replacing an alternator and so have the accessory belt off. I did find some comments here about the tensioners but would like to know how much play, if any, is acceptable. Car has done about 120k miles.

Lower, manual adjustment one, spins freely and silently but can be moved slightly 'corner to corner' so some play there. Top spring loaded...

Silly question, but which engine oil should i use on a C8 2.0Hdi (2003)? It has about 80k miles if that makes a difference.

Today drove 2 406 2.0 hdi 110 both gtx 2002, In mint condition,
Were total crap when compared to c5, felt poor quality to drive

Decent engines, but cars not good at all, lol..

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the bristol or surrounding area to get my spheres changed (an LX) or alternatively a good supplier of spheres and appropriate tool. Would it be worthwhile changing the Fluid at the same time?

Hi everyone, my citroen dispatch 57 reg has an oil leak n i duno wa from. 2 weeks ago i has a leak from a damaged driveshaft seal. This was replaced along with the driveshaft and now all of a sudden i have oil again?its a clear oil which im assuming is the oil i av put into the gear box. Ive been told they are a sealed unit? I have now got my synergie on the road and we think its great, but it has a problem returning to idle. Its when you lift the throttle it takes a long time to return,its idle is fine once there but its spoiling the driving (at rounderbouts etc ) just wondered if anyone could point in the right direction if they come across this before. Its a 2.0 8v...

I have had hard time.

about my '00 citroen xm 3.0l late 24v (rp 08599)

a few days ago, I felt a sudden bump in the steering wheel while
turning my wheel quickly in a narrow parking lot, lost all the power
steering assist at the same time.

Is there some magic trick to getting the retaining pin out of the clutch lever crank arm on the top of the BE4 gearbox? It has me flumoxed as we cannot pull it forward and it seems only logical that this kotter pin type device has to be punched through.

Any ideas please?

I don't normally try to hard to get the pin out, I've cracked the casing before. I just pull the lever up and cut the shaft with an angle grinder and buy a new shaft and lever. This particularly applies to the MA citroen/peugeot boxes as the casings crack really easily and ecp stcock the new shaft/lever assembly for about £15.

So here we are, my book says my first Xantia joined on 01/11/02, so ten years ago :shock:

Like many I went slightly reluctantly to a Xantia as the supply of BXs had dried up - much the same situation with Xantias / C5s now. So here's the highlights:

Wondered if anyone on here could offer some advice.
I brought a 53 reg Dispatch to repair as had head gasket gone
I spent a week pulling the engine out & tried removing the head but couldn't remove one of the head bolts so had to cut the head off in the end & replace with a new one.
Van ran lovely after work was completed, drove 110 miles home...

You need to get a combustion leak test done to see if the head gasket has failed, or you have a crack in the block etc, most garages can do this test nowadays
