Rare Xantias

Post by Gregg1100 »

Since I sold my Xantia and disappeared into the Fiat underworld, I have noticed a sharp decline in the amount of Xantias seen on the roads. Even less Bx's. Millions of C5's about.
Seemed that way too when I had my 2.8 Granada. All over the place like a rash. Couple of years after selling, non in existence nearly.

What I didn't check before buying the Punto was the cost of replacing the electric power steering box. I have bought 2 Bx's and 2 cheap Xantias for the cost of a Fiat steering column in the past.
I still like the Xantia, started to hanker after another now. A Cit owner is for life, I think.
Not been in these hallowed pages for a while, except for a foray into Pug forum- which I still have, with same faults not yet fixed. Electrical.

Take care.

With you there Oscar----only had hydraulic power steering for 60+ years. Nothing wrong with it. They take away a belt driven pump supposedly for economy, then hang an aircon pump on it instead. Bonkers.
Looking at C5's last night on Ebay- prices of those have dropped alarmingly. I would be looking at a 2 litre 110bhp series 1. Tax is similar to the Punto. Wouldn't want a 2.2 at all.
Do these engines have to use that eolys stuff ??

I disagree. I think c5 facelift is the best of the three...

but I have to say the 8v 110 hdi IS the BEST hdi engine ever with the 2.0 16v comming close second..

I agree and I love the 16v 2.0 HDi too, especially having worked on one now. They run like a well-oiled clock and are lovely to work on, bar the stupid oil filter...

just if you're getting a sinker it'd be nice to have a lower mileage one, seeing as they are getting rare now!

but yea, for £250 you'd probably only need to spend the same for service etc and fixing the small problems, and ditching the alloys!

Some time ago I remember seeing a Xantia for sale (here in france) which stated it had 'normal' non hydraulic suspension. I assume they did exist ?

For that price I would be using similar logic to that when I got mine. Checked that it started, stopped, went around corners, had a year's test and that the strut tops weren't rotten. If all these points check out, can't really go wrong.

XUD will happily go to the moon and back so long as it's reasonably well looked after. Mine is on 198K and if you stuck a bit of tape over the odometer and had me drive it I would have said it was a 50-70K car. Even the pedal rubbers are fine!

Xantias seem to wear their miles very well, and the XUD engine seems pretty bulletproof so long as it doesn't overheat and you make sure to change the timing belt, as that will also write off the head if it goes.

I've not heard of any.
There were a few non - power steering variants but none were invited into the UK... Was that what was meant?

Maybe the Chinese and Iranian Xantias were conventionally suspended. ..
