Need to tackle the speedo/tacho faults on my C5 this weekend (2 weeks of risking speed cameras with no idea of actual speed is enough for me! )
My plan is to buy a replacement binnacle from a breaker and hopefully swap the tacho/speedo drive units over while keeping the rest of my original unit (rest seems to work and I wouldn't want to lose any of the 150k miles that the car has so studiously clocked up in its life by swapping in a lower reading odo! )
But, what I'd like to do before just ripping into it, is to try and inject engine and road speed via a lexia (I assume this can be done?) to prove it is definitely the clocks that are faulty and also to test that the replacements work correctly.
Is there anyone about who would mind plugging their Lexia into my car this weekend maybe?

Not sure if you can activate the speedo via Lexia or not. You won't lose the mileage - and you can't change it via the Lexia anyway. The mileage will end up being the higher of the recorded mileage in the BSI or the replacement binnacle - so to preserve the mileage you need to find a lower mileage unit to replace it.

i have sorted the speedo on my friends 03 C5 by switching the speedo and rev counter stepper motors over,
i took the instrument cluster out and striped it down,
mind you make 100% sure you know were each needle ( speedo and rev counter ) are pointing exactly, other wise it is very difficult to get them exactly back in the right place,
to remove the stepper motors you need to very very gently ease to two white plastic posts out to the side and through the slots each side of the motors, then lift the motor/s out and away,
mind you dont snap the white plastic posts just ease them outwards enough to clear the motors

Thanks - the needles on mine are pointing in completely the wrong position atm, so the reference point will have to be from the new ones anyway
