Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

So the wife is quite smitten with the local Xsara Picasso we looked at yesterday. We have confirmed it has a MAF issue and seller is happy to negotiate on price.
Needs a few little bits but nothing too major from what I can see, brake pads, ball joint rubber ( so would just replace the whole thing )

Hi all,

I have a S2 car going back on the road with damaged bumpers and a bog standard S2 for spares. The bumpers look identical except the lower spec bumpers have a black strip on them, across their width. Is it a case of just painting them to match the original Exclusive items or are the exclusive bumpers unique?

I guess I could just retain...

TBH i'd keep the black strip as they hide the scuff marks better :)

if you want to go down the painting route then they need stripping and prepping quite well as its a different plastic surface to the rest of the bumper :(

I have a '01 C5 2.2 SX, I have Lexia...... and I have removed all of the dpf/additive functions.

now the final step requires a re-map to remove DPF references from EEPROM.

Is there anyone in the north of England that has the ability to do this for me?.......... by North I mean REAL North I.E North of Sheffield?

Hmm. As you all know, my C5 has issues. It's not worth me paying to get it sorted and I don't have time or facilities to DIY it.

I don't doubt I can sell it as it is.

Thing is, I like C5s. I wanted a Ford or Honda but driving home in conditions more suited to a boat earlier, I realised I really like them.

Loss of vacuum somewhere, broken rubber joiner in the vacuum pipework either on the turbo actuator side or the swirl valve side quite common or just possibly electrovalve failure. Did you change the swirl valve or was it done by someone else?.

Looks like part no 0513A9 - £32 inc VAT. Appears to be widely used across the DW HDi engine family (ie all the later 2.0 and 2.2 engines), including the later 16V versions, so you should be able to pick up a used one 8-)

I am thinking that I need a wheel bearing on the VTS. Has anyone done one? And anyone know how much the bearing would cost and how much labour it needs to do the job? It's the front drivers side one.

I just looked at the mot, I knew there was an advisory on a ball joint with slight play and it's on the same corner so it will make sense to replace it at the same time. I think I would manage the hub off ok, and that would mean the iffy ball joint will be split anyway. My future son in law is an engineer at Scotrail, he may have access to a press...

Changed the MAF sensor today! Disconnected the battery to do so and left it for about an hour. Also added some snazzy engine cover clips so it now stay on! Hooray!

Then I went to start the car. It wont start and the Electronic immobiliser ignition light is lit. Have only tested it with Remote key so far, have a 2nd key I havent tried!

citroen c5. 2002 hdi. speedo and rev. counter, when the ignition is turned off speedo and rev. counter does not register zero, both needles drop right down. when running both work, but register at half of what they should. the rev. counter registers zero when the engine is running, and should register about a thousand. i can still use the car but...

We are looking at a 53 plate 2.0HDi with a view to purchasing it but it seems to be lacking in the power department. Other than that, its a great car, good condition, FSH, clean etc.

Just bought a new clutch for my 2.2HDi C5 as its started to slip after 111k miles. Has anybody done this job who could give me any further info, ie subframe out etc etc. Never done a C5 and i think Monsieur Citroen will have a few surprises in store for me.

My dads now got a lot of wiggle room with the box but says that it seems stuck on the long driveshaft, the one that like the XU engines in the xantia runs thru a mount on the back of the block and then into the diff from the drivers side wheel.

I think he just needs to yank it a bit harder and it should slide out but he thinks its locked onto it...

The other night my c5 got stuck in third gear and had to be toad home. On inspection I have been told it is the gear linkage selecta cable that has gone. Am going to scrap yards tomorrow to try and get a replacement. the question is are all hdi box's and their bits the same. i.e c5 1.6 hdi same as c4 1.6 hdi. please help

Advice needed! My C5 1.6 HDi 56 plate has twice shown the De-pollution system faulty warning. Each time it was after cocking up starting the car and stalling, then having to floor the accelerator to restart. The first time the warning cleared after a couple of short drives. It ALSO shows that the Generic Anti Pollution Fault is NOT always to do with the Cat or DPF in the exhaust..
The 1.6 uses an complete unit type filter, one where you swap the WHOLE unit not just the filter and they are 29 quid a time PLUS VAT..

Ok, now I *think* i've got the engine problem sorted, its time to start making the C5 a bit more fun to be in!

Starting with a new head unit! Now, my dad (who has a MUCH newer C3) has been looking into it, and apparently the car will throw a wobbly if I plug a HU into it as it is. I don't want to do this however, as I do like the stalk controls,...

It works, apart from the radio, as the adapter Halfords sold me doesn't seem to plug into the hole on the radio (it is the correct type!)

I also saved lots of time by putting the microphone up by the little screen on top of the dashboard, and threading the cable down into the dashboard, thereby allowing me to grab it!

Hi Guys, new to forum so bear with me

L2-H1 59 Reg Dispatch 2.0 HDI - only done 29,000 miles from new

Problem is as follows, went to pick up some stock, van started from key first time, ( no Probs )

However after picked up stock, put key in, turned Key - and van was turning over but would not start, tried again and again just kept turning...

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so hope I'm posting in the right area. I've just bought myself a 2000 Dispatch 1.9D none starter. After charging the battery it turns over ok but won't start. The lights come on on the dash and the immobiliser light goes off, the glow plug relay is working but that's about it. There is fuel at the pump but not the...

Thanks for the replies, I've been looking at some pictures of the pump with and without the armour plate and it looks like I can get away with cutting the top off the plate to get at the stop solenoid so I'm going to have a go in the morning. I'll let you know what happens.

i think you will have your work cut out going this route

Yesterday lunch time the TD wouldn't start for a minute of cranking and plugs - it final ran and drove fine

It starts instantly from cold and any other time with recent plugs, fuel filter, coolant, timing belt etc

Could be looking a. The start of a failure?

Yeah, the TD's need the long burn plugs, not the standard duration burn plugs that the normally aspirated diesels use.
The standard plugs last about a week, maybe less in a TD.

Hello guys,

The fuel gauge in my Xantia is playing up.

Sometimes it will read empty when starting up the car, then it will rise to the actual amount of fuel in the tank, but it works normally most of the time.

I have taken off the tank & checked the electrical connection to the fuel sender & it seems fine.

Does anybody know what else is likely...

If I reset the onboard display by pressing the button on the end of the wiper stalk the average mpg jumps about a bit for the first few miles then settles down. After I've done about 20-30 miles it never alters again until I press the reset button. So if I've done 200 miles town driving and its reading 40mpg and I then do a long run, the reading...

Evening all,
just as we wondered down the drive this avo, glanced at the car and saw a bubble, opp place for a water bead, remembered seeing an s2 xant Ets. on ebay last year with Bad rust on the rear arch area's,
Now, am i right in assuming that somethings up inside the wheel arch causing it?? Is it a case of wheel off, clean up, treat etc. or...

I feel your pain. I was just hosing my S2 Estate last week and noticed a similar sized blister on the N/S wing :(

I have been using Dynax S50 in Aerosol form and have been impressed with it, although have not sprayed that area yet. Once the gales and rain stop I will get in and about. I always hose under the wheel arches every few weeks and tons...

But! Recent anti roll links, New ball joints and rod ends, seems to be drivers side - not severe but annoying when I feel it a little art my feet.

Had a look at the joints and can't get any movement any where save for a little at the anti roll bar bushing - would this be likely? Didn't think it moved enough- looks a pig to change

Hi all,

I know that no Xantia came with a fuel consumption computer but that several Peugeots with the same engines came with them such that they could be retrofitted to a Xantia.

Does anyone know if the ES9J4 in the V6 supported outputs for a fuel consumption computer and whether that was used in a Peugeot 406 V6 ? If so what does the display...

The ECU takes injector size, flow rate and number of cylinders into account and provides a pulse equivalent to millilitres of fuel used, so the same computer can be used regardless of engine type. The trip computer has the fuel tank size hard-coded for estimating remaining range.

Injector flow rates have to be pretty well matched to get good...

Hi Guys, wondered if you can help me.
l noticed the stop lights, well 2 out of 3 were not working, changed the bulb in the nearside one and that now works but the 3 stop light on top of the tailgate is not.

questions
1 how do l get to the back of it although l dont think its a bulb problem ?
2 is there a fuse for this light, l cant find one...

Hi, Wise and wizened one's..
When I take my foot off the throttle the car picks up speed and will go for about a minute before the revs drop back down,
I can't find any air leaks on the two rubber hoses, Could this be a EGR fault ? .. I was thinking about blanking it off anyway..
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Finally going to have to do the NS wishbone bush on the Xantia - noticed yesterday when torquing the wheel bolts up after doing the drop link, that there is visible play in the pin now :lol: I know there are stories of short lived bushes - so what recommendations on what to fit, or is it just getting the alignment right that's more important? after paying out just over the £100 quid each for a pair of Volvo V70 front arms ( heavy cast alloy ) and the bush's literally falling apart within the year,

then a Bosch boxed Lambda sensor not even firing up on the return MOT emissions test,

I've just been to test drive a manual 2007 C3 VTR. I was very impressed apart from a transmisson noise when accelerating or decelerating. It sounds rather like a exhaust roar with a muffled clicking sound. It's hardly noticable and disappears once you get up to speed and ease off the accelerator. Forget my problem of Xantia being stuck in hard mode...

Now it seem that rubber pipes decided they won't cooperate with the hydraulic system and are failing one after another. It's jolly nice when you get stranded on the side of the road with a green puddle under the car. Looks like you just slaughtered a Predator . Lost 4L of LHM in the past...

I ran 2.1 estates for over 15 years, I used them for my work as a TV engineer, they had more carrying capacity than the average van plus superb comfort and ride and from the 2.1 manual 50+ mpg on a long journey driven gently. I use a C5 estate now, OK but the Hdi engine is not as refined as the 2.1, that would pull smoothly from tickover.

Folks, it's getting late so I best stop searching the forum ask my Q and get to bed!

Needed to replace Xantia s2 (1999) Exclusive 2l 16v front wheel hub carriers - someone sometime did something strange, or perhaps the garage did and it's just the bearing that duff. Who knows, something weird has happened.
