Source of top engine mount bush for ES9 Xantia and XM?

Post by xantia_v6 »

The ES9 top engine mount has been unavailable from Citroen for about 5 years, and they do fail.

I noticed that there is an after-market 406 mount available on ebay, which looks to have a very similar bush (but the bracket is different).

I have asked the vendor to measure the diameter of the large bush, but he seems not to understand the question.

Does anyone feel like buying one on the offchance? (I have spent my budget for this year :( )

Full marks for trying! :rofl2:

I have noticed that the top mount on mine looks like it has either been repaired or replaced as there seem to be extra shims between the bush and the outer housing that the other V6 didn't have. Will try to get a photo of it some time.

By the way in that ebay picture two sides of the four pronged rubber bush are nowhere near touching the housing - surely that can't be right ?

That bush looks correct. It is designed to be stiff for lateral loads, but softer for minor fore and loads as produced by normal engine vibration.

I'm not convinced. If you want to make it softer in one axis you'd make the rubber prong narrower or of softer material, you wouldn't just leave a 5-10mm gap between the rubber and the housing in one axis...That's called excessive play, not softness. Pretty sure that my top engine mount has no gaps around the 4 prongs of the rubber and there is an insert ring all the way around between the bush and the housing. Will take a picture tonight.

The gaps are OE and there by design, the protrusions that dont quite touch are to limit movement and prevent tearing of the virtical bonding webs, it works very well, i tried an aftermarket solid one once, not on a citroen and it was horrific how much vibration was transmitted.

I'm not talking about a solid bush. The bush on mine is a 4 pointed star the same shape as the one in the ebay picture, however all 4 points touch the spacer ring in the housing. I still can't see a good reason for them not to touch. Most bushes would need replacing when they have shrunk enough to slop in the housing, why design that in from new ??

If a softer bush is required, all the top mount bushings i have seen have the gap, all the bottom rear bushings that have a greater leverage on them have no gap but are not bonded.
