C5 Mk1 help with TPMS tyre pressure sensor.

Post by waynedance »

I have just replaced one of my sensors, used an exciter tool which has also given the code for the sensor.

I have Lexia running but can not seem to be able to find how or where to enter the details for the new sensor, the car still says 1 sensor missing.
There was a section for TPMS but it said you needed another piece of kit to put by each wheel, is this correct?

Thanks.

Have a read through this - I've lifted it from some docs for a 2003 C5 - the additional equipment you refer too should be the 'exciter' tool that you say you have - but looking at this there is a learning mode for the sensor. I'm guessing you are using Lexia as opposed to Diagbox - so I don't know exactly where the menu is to code the sensor, but I'm sure it would be under maintenance or repair. But once this is done - it needs driving off to 'learn' according to this. Anyway see if this helps:
Note the bit under 3) Repair Options, about the inertia switch...

1. Reading fault codes
The following faults can be read using the diagnostic tool :
Wheel transmitter 1, 2, 3, 4 battery discharged fault
Absence of wheel transmitter 1, 2, 3, 4 fault

2. Reading of the parameters
The following parameters can be read using the diagnostic tool
Parameter ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Parameter status
Under inflation detection - Position statuses of wheels 1, 2, 3, 4: ------------Driving
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Transported
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Absent
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Waiting time
Pressure statuses of wheels 1, 2, 3, 4: ---------------------------------------------- Rapid loss
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Semi-rapid loss
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wheel punctured
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wheel deflated
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pressure correct
Detection of under-inflation pressure of wheels 1, 2, 3, 4: -------------------- Pressure measurement ( bar)

3. Repair operations
The tyre transmitter modules are delivered inactive, they become operational on the inertia switch closing on driving away.
After replacing the tyre transmitter module, the built-in systems interface must be initialised with the new module identifying code.
A forcing function is used together with a diagnostic tool to initialise.
A forcing function emits for 7 seconds a signal on a frequence of 125 kHz. The tyre transmitter module is fitted with an aerial of the transponder type.
After receiving the signal for 5 seconds, the tyre transmitter module emits five successive and similar frames containing the identifying code.
These messages are specific and contain in the field "function code" the indication "initialising mode", which allows the diagnostic tool to introduce this new code to the built-in systems interface.
ESSENTIAL : Removing the barrel involves replacing it with a new element.
N.B. : When replacing a transmitter module, it is necessary to replace the valve seal.

4. Configuration
The following parameters can be configured using the diagnostic tool
Parameter to be configured --------------------------------Status of the parameter to be configured
  • Under-inflation detection option: --------------------- Absent / present
  • Option of nominal wheel pressure: ------------------- Numeric value ( bar)
  • Under inflation detection - Selective filtering: ------- No/yes

Thanks, the laptop I used is I believe Digibox as that was what the short cut was called, this opens and gives the option to select Lexia.

Will go and have a play later.

Again thanks.

Ok - as I suspected - you have Diagbox as the front end, which is loading Lexia as the interface due to the year of your car. The setting is there somewhere - a gallon of coffee and you'll crack it!

There is also a question of raising to pressure of the tyre to 3.7 bar which was mentioned on this site but cannot find it currently.

Which tool did you use?
I am thinking of buying one

Could you give us a bit more information on how it was sorted? Did you obtain an exciter from somewhere?

Yes as in my first post got an exciter.

Found the correct menu in the lexia program, trick was to drive over 30 kph when asked by lexia straight away while it was displayed on the laptop.

Wasn't sure if you bought it or borrowed it. Where did you buy it from? The last time I looked (about 6 - 7 years ago) they were stupidly expensive. Is there a reasonably priced alternative now?

That's still a bit on the high side for me. I'd probably use it once or twice at most although, as I am considering buying an extra set of wheels for some winter tyres, it might be used twice a year at least.

Mmmmm, thinking to be done...

I have an issue with the rear near side tyre.
Could you let us know where is the menu on Lexias?
