how common are Xm's

Unread post by c.morewood »

On a break in Shetland, the island if Yell. We went for a drive exploring side roads I hadn't been down since I was a child. At the end of one I found 2 N reg Xm saloons sitting in a field in not too bad nick and 10 minutes later lo and behold another M reg saloon. All obviously hadn't been, used for a year or two but weren't obviously rusting away. I just wondered if anyone here might be interested.

It's like BXs. Never see them on the roads these days but go to a decent rally and they're as common as muck...

Mind you, one doesn't see many Xantias in the wild now...

Down here in Somerset I've seen a good few ZXs running around and they're pretty scarce now too...

There's a house on a back road that I occasionally pass to/from work if I have to go that way that has a couple of XMs and CXs in the drive....! One day I'll have the time to stop and knock on the door and have a blether.

We've got four sitting in our field, unfortunately they are all 2.5s and don't belong to me anyway - if they were 2.1s I would probably have one on the road.

I just wondered if anyone would be interested in them. Id imagine you'd be able to,make at least one good one from the 3. But the transport cost off the island might not make it worthwhile.

Chris,
Have taken the liberty and popped your post on to club-xm.co.uk - just in case anyone there knows about this little stash!

The other day i passed a super clean, green W reg Xant pulling a caravan, shortly followed by a Silver BX meteor, i was in the XM.

would have been a rare group spot for someone of what were very common cars once.

A great trio. Two of those is nice enough; three constitutes a rally! \:D/

Was out at the dump this morning trying to retrieve some small parts for the xantia. 3 xantias only one partly accessible.. I found a BX Turbo D waiting to be scrapped. Then took some photos of the Xm's. I'll post them shortly.

DVLA reports 366 taxed Xms and a further 624 on SORN.

Somewhat more Xantias: 3654 taxed and 2589 on SORN

Still 453 BXs taxed and 1116 on SORN - they're faring a lot better than Visas of which there are just 24 taxed and 94 on SORN

For tiny numbers, look at XM's "sister", Pug 605: 62 taxed, 110 SORN.

Try as I may, I can't love it. A real failure of styling imagination - just a big 405 - and who was going to pay towards £29k for that? Sometimes, looks are (almost) everything!
