Whats this plug?

Post by superloopy »

Following a swimming pool event in the rear of my TD 1995 xantia i've stripped out the rear as a first off and found this plug under drivers seat. Any ideas? It's an SX model. Any chance it could be for electric seats??

Must be for electric seats Mike but it looks different to what they normally look like. Do you have corresponding plugs under the keypad immobiliser tray in the centre console for the seat heater switches?

Pre keypad Jim.
I've not got the console fully out yet but it looks like the front carpets will also need removing so i'll take a look then.

Black one is for the seat heaters.

The other im not sure about, isn't apparant in mine. The electric seat plug is a 3 wired affair (earth, relay trigger and positive) so i dont think its that

Could the other one be a CD changer cable or would that be in the boot?

Underneath the drivers seat would be a very inconvenient location for a CD changer! :rofl2: It's in the boot...

Does the Xantia of that era have an option for electrically controlled (motorised) seats? If so, that's surely got to be the plug for it.

cd changer plug ends in a huge white plug (excuse the mess!!)

and it does actually go under the seat, theres another cable that then runs to the boot

All eras of Xantia's had versions with electric seats right from the beginning. In Series 1 VSX got Electric seats right from 1993. In series 2 Exclusive got Electric seats.

Doesn't mean that the wiring loom is present on lesser models though.

the looms are a mixed bag tbh! mine has all the gubbins for heated seats (plugs under coin tray and seats) but not electric seats #-o theres loads of spare plugs under the dash too, and one that was stuck under the clocks!

Yep there can be quite a few unused plugs on Citroen's. The ES9J4 on the Series 2 Xantia V6 has an unused plug cable tied to the side of the engine between the cruise control bellows and air filter box - I've always wondered what that plug was for and whether the other end was connected to something. Then I discovered on the Series 1 Xantia V6 I have now it has that same unused plug and another unused plug cable tied right next to it. :-D Now I'm doubly curious...I know the engine and its electrical system very well and have studied the wiring diagrams in detail and have no idea what they are for or even could be for...

With the coin tray out i've got these three plugs which were wrapped in a manky sticky foam protection. Are these for heated seats and if so whats that thin black one for?
Image
They're all gooey eith the adhesive. Whats the best stuff to clean them up? I've picked off as much of the foam as i can get hold of.
