Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Simple oil question.
In the book, Citroen recommend a synthetic oil for the 1.6 petrol. Is this really needed or is a good 0W/30 or 5W/30 just as good.

My colleague's C5 has popped up warning messages about the filter blocking, and we hooked up Lexia today. There were a few faults showing, and they all cleared. apart from something bout the heat relays which I've always ignored on other hdi cars.

The filler cap shows present/absent as it should on live readouts, so the magnets are working. Lexia...

With advice from here I have successfully installed my own stereo into the C5. I used the existing earth wire (green/yellow) and deduced that the one next to it must be the +12V. @Woodiesgband - I had the Navidrive on my 2005 Exclusive and at some point suddenly got the no satellites issue. I can say that resetting had no effect, I bought a new aerial (there are at least 2 types and you do need the specific one for the telematics / Navidrive models) - but no joy after having this replaced.

I've got the auxiliary belt off my '98 Xantia 2.1 TD at the moment trying to sort out a squeak.

It might be common knowledge but I couldn't find a pulley for the top tensioner anywhere - just complete tensioners, so I measured it up and after a couple of hours surfing the web I came up with this:

Hi,
My C5 Estate 2006 (good cond, low mileage) was hit from behind at moderate speed. The insurers are offering me £3300 as a write off, with their repairers quoting £3700 for repairs.
At the moment the car is with them, I need to get a better look. The damage I can see:
Rear bumper and top trims out of place, marked, not broken

Hi all, recently purchased a C5 estate and inherited a few quirks as is the norm with our beloved French bargains. I've had a search and have a few ideas but thought I'd try and narrow things down a little more in a wide ranging post that google searchers would find helpful.

Gremlins are:
1.) Speedo is not working, usually just sits at 6 o clock...

You can then undo four bolts that holds the two sections of the DPF together (they may be rusted solid, you can cut them off with an angle grinder and replace with 4...

Just did a cambelt aux belt change the lot, on C5. Water pump tensioners crank damper etc.
She fired up no problem but sounds rough with knock on bottom end.......banging almost.

Have I missed anything? One timing pin in cam sprocket at about 8 o clock. 8mm bolt in flywheel.What about the second pulley near the front? Does that affect anything...

Dinatrol approved applicators have them.

I had my XM treated at (they showed me the corresponding diagram) and I don't regret spending the money, but I didn't have the facilities to do a proper job myself.

I just looked at their page for self-applied treatments and they say that they will give you the diagram if you buy the product from them....

I'm sure my boot used to suck in a bit at the bottom when it closed. It does not seem to be doing that. And the gap on the right is larger than the left.
Should I worry? It could explain why the outside world seems so loud recently.

not too sure...mines never become loose again but probably wouldn't go amiss IF you can get the torx bolt out enough and get the nozzle in there?
pretty sure the chrome trim neeeds to be removed which probably means ripping out most of the trim etc so i just did it as easy as i could

Hi everyone,

I've recently bought a Xsara Piccaso 1.6i. It's a 2002 model, petrol, manual and according to the Cit service website, should have 100 horses galloping beneath the bonnet.

It feels more like 60 lame horses though. Overtaking is something other people do now. Not me.

Sometimes when accelerating it feels juddery from the engine.

I am fitting an SKF cambelt kit to Donk ATM. I notice that the deflection pulley roller is about 5mm narrower than the OE item.
The OE item had a groove in the centre of it's steel roller. It seems to have been made a bit wider than the cam belt to give a margin for running off. This one ( stamped skf) has a plastic roller and is only a touch...

That is interesting John. So maybe the plastic has improved. I don't think steel can be beaten for doing big miles though.
I have always though that OE stuff on the car when bought would last maybe 100k plus. That will be the spec and they will have 4 or five companies who have or will make that stuff fior them. When they make an aftermarket...

Having tried once with limited success (a lot less than 1L drained out), the faint wail all the way to Little Horwood and back, set me thinking again about how to best do this job.

Current thoughts:
Get the gearbox nice and hot.
On a level surface, put suspension on HIGH
Support front of car on axle stands as high as is sensible

If this is a 2.0. 8 valve engine I have never heard of injector failure, I have two, one has done 242k miles and the other 200k and as far as I know the injectors are original. If you do have a problem you can buy them very cheaply off ebay, I have seen a set for about £25, evidence theat they don't often go wrong.

I've replaced the coil pack at some considerable expense for a new Valeo unit; also replaced about Xmas were the sparks.

Symptoms (before replacing coil pack)

Am trying to retrofit cruise control on my '02 VTR HDi

Stalk fitted, activated in both BSI and injection ecu on lexia

However, is saying brake switches are not in coherance.....probably because there isn't a second brake switch i suspect. It's the red one i'm trying to locate

However, i can't find its location, any ideas?

Not too long before the days grow shorter again, and this year I want to replace the headlights on my MK1 Xantia with brand new units - it all helps to light the road

I've gone as far as I can wityh the lights I have, I've tried a Morette conversion (left hand dip units never came!), and I have in Osram +1, which certainly helped, but I know that...

Really been enjoying using the cruise control, for better economy, smoothness and that general relaxation so good on long journeys.
On my last trip, however, I found that on the steeper climbs (French motorways, so not desperate stuff!) the selected speed gradually drops off. Application of the right foot gives me the power, so there is more in...

Just got back from France. Cruise control working as originally reported. The car is the 2006 2.0 HDI, by the way.
Having tried various things on the trip, I can sum it up by saying that it works well when not asked to try too hard!
But give it a steep-ish incline or descent and it wanders away from the set figure. It will adjust as normal...

Hi all,
I am going to check my trailing on my zx as the wheel has started to wear on the inside and is nearly rubbing on inner arch.If I undo the shock and there is no movement on the arm does this mean it has seized? I'm hoping it just needs new bearings and that I've caught it in time,don't think its worth putting new axle on as it's worth more...

Hi Danny, sorry for the tardy response :oops:

The bearings in question are needle rollers and generally if they have got so bad that the wheel is beginning to rub the wheel arch than it's very likely the beam tube is damaged.. What happens id the bearing seize and they then cause the housing in the beam tube to wear oval. Also, the same seizure...

I found on eBay one with Citroen catalog number is 182732 and it is for Xantia TURBO DIESEL DW10TD

XU10J4R and BVA,
XUD9TE and BVA
XU7JP4 and BVA

Not sure what the exact term is for the little pipes which run between the injectors on a turbodiesel? I'm about to replace the glowplugs and now seems a good time to replace these little black pipes but with what? Anyone know the citroen part numbers for the piping and the little end pipe?

Watch those ends as they are often the first to split... I still favour making an end from a bit of spare pipe doubled-back on itself and held tight with a couple of cable ties...

I seem to have acquired a smelly diesel pong inside the cabin of my Xantia 1.9TD along with hunting
on cold starts, I found that the Number 4 cylinder leak off pipe was a bit iffy and letting fuel run over the
injector into the well around the injector, so I trimmed the pipe and stopped the leak, the hunting at cold start has stopped now...

Anyone got a set for an S1 car (S2 cars a different)....both of mine are cracked as are the ones in my donor car.....driving me nuts :)

Mine was broken (clips missing) so I got the one from the S1 donor Activa, yep it is smaller !
so I got the one from the S2V6 car, the same size but no dome.....and the colour is different.

So an switching the cover, drilling the hole for a dome from the original and then will apply the cleanest headlining material.....

Nothing is simple is it :)

Been there, was intending to bodge the slightly manky panel out of the VSX for manual sunroof operation in the green lady. Different electronic modules though both are S1 - the Green Lady's (95) is glued in, the VSX (98) clips in. If it's any help, the manky one is defo among the bits loaded for tomorrow and its electronic unit should there too...

Hi All.....first time Citroen owner here.
Have just bought a 2011 Citroen C5 e-HDI Touring and I have a question about the start-stop Eco Mode system. It worked intermittently for a while but not it hasn't worked in about a month.
I've had it back to the dealership a few times and there's nothing they can see wrong with the system but they did...

A CCA of 760 seems to be what I'm after

I've just had one of these delivered this morning. It has 5 year warranty. 780CCA and 77AH for £65 delivered.

Unless I cant see it in the link that battery doesn't appear to be an AGM type meaning its not really any good for cars with stop/start.

Only been on one high speed run with my latest Xantia (since scrapping the 2.1TD) was running fine on a run over to Whitby but on a whim I headed out for the Yorkshire Moors ... heard what I can only describe as a bit of a clunk and was immediately accompanied by the orange engine management/fuel injection light ... Stopped and checked for...

Try swapping the connectors and pipes on the Vacum control valves over, one does the EGR (mines now blanked) and the other does the turbo, I could provoke the light by attempting to go fast ! but it went away after some restarts, turned out the valve was working, but not properly, I eventually replaced the valve and the car is now smoother and has...

For something that is so small why do Citroen want £25 and you can only buy them in pairs. :x

Not only that you have to paint them as well, allow £20 for paint and lacquer and it's going to cost £45 total.

Had a major sunroof leak on my Saxo VTR when I first got it. The sunroof was sealed shut and in a mess, so I replaced the sunroof completely with a used replacement. Used plenty of tiger seal. I also checked the sunroof drains, found that the passenger side one was being crushed by a bolt so have removed that bolt and the drainage tube seems...

Hmmm!!

If the drains are blocked it normally leaks all over the floor (like mine did!) And you know its not that. Unless its getting in under the plastic trim. Might have to take the rooflining out and get a hose on it

I have a Xantia 2.0 16v make year 2000 ( RFV engine ) . I want to replace the fuel injectors. I wanted to detach the fuel rail I removed the 4 bolts that secure the fuel rail. Looking at the C4 the other day, I see that the rear pads are nearly gone - this may be why we are getting a squeak from the back sometimes, and why it threw a handbrake warning the other day (resolved after a re-start and has not re-ocurred). Anyone know how to do it (er Lighty.... :lol: )

Is it enough just to turn off the auto function on the...

Sounds like a fair description of how to do it, although we don't tend to loosen the bleed nipples, but it will certainly help.
So long as you pump the brake pedal a few times before allowing the handbrake to operate, all is usually well.
Sometimes, the handbrake fault light will come on, and lexia will be required to clear any errors.

heya!

I've got a bent hub :( boo!

Before attacking, I just wondered what I'd need to replace it?

I've got a 1 meter long breaker for the hub nut (any idea of the size of that nut?).

But do I need pullers at all?
Maybe for getting the hub off the carrier or the bearing out?

And can I re-use the bearing as it's fine?

I had one of these heaters on Xantia HDI , SX spec I think it was.
My LX C5 does not seem to have one? Is this the case? I don't want it anyway but need to check that it isn't hidden esewhere.
I am looking at bulkhead near heater matrix.

I blew the autobox ECU up by connecting it with bare wires across the top of the engine. The induced ignition voltages when I started the engine was what blew it up...

Just thought i'd let everyone know of a group of Xantias in a Derby scrap yard.

Went to Albert Looms today and it looks like someone had been trying to grow Xantias (judging by the plant life on some of them). 1 has leather interior but drivers seat is worn

Just had a wander round this site and obviously searched the xantia hdi and the site informs change at 100k or 10 years. One less bill for the next 4 or so years if it's reliable info.

Not quite what I said. The belt will soon be eight years old. If I wait until its due mileage the belt will be nine years old. I'll probably change it in the new year when it will be around 8.5 years old and the mileage c210k.

As for the make I'll tell you when I take it off. :P

A few years ago there was Citroen rallies held in Scotland it was like a car boot sale for Citroen cars they were held at Doone Motor Museum then Stirling Rugby Club can you tell me where the nearest one is now held
