C8 - BSI reset procedure... how the heck?

Post by MikeRatcliffe »

I have ordered a new battery with a little extra oomph as C8s do draw a lot of power.

There's no reason why you can't be inside the car, the procedure as you describe is for cars that have the battery under the bonnet.

I imagine it would be a struggle to disconnect the battery with the door closed even if you were inside the car.
I would try tricking the car into thinking the door is closed by using a screwdriver to push the door latch past it's 2 clicks. Just don't forget to pull the handle to unlatch it before you slam the door later.

I like the idea of tricking the door sensor... I will give that a try.

I went through the whole procedure and everything seemed fine. I drove my car a few miles without any issues.

After stopping I opened and slammed the boot closed then the car went all Christine on me.

The hazard lights suddenly came on so I got in the car and switched them off. Every few seconds the hazards started coming on, the wipers randomly swiped, the trip computer switched off and the dials all dimmed.

I performed another BSI reset and things were fine for the journey home but it seems like something around the boot is causing major issues. I don't think it is a coincidence that the intermittently failing parking sensors are located just below the boot.

I got called by my wife to come and get my 2006 C8 petrol sx which had every warning it had flashing up on the dash computer including brakes and steering. When I tried to start it, it just kept clicking. When recovery arrived i managed to start it to move it so far and the steering did not work so I had to be forceful with it but then the engine started to hunt and the exhaust was rattling as if the cat was failing. I was wondering if a reset would help me.

Suspect areas:

Battery on its last legs and past service life, or the next likely suspect is the engine fuse box / wiring / BSI or your battery lead terminals / earths etc.

A Lexia diagnostic will help us further if there are any codes - but you can try the BSI reset which is the easiest no-cost option first.

Might have been easier if there was a simple button marked BSI Reset which did the job for you. If not a button, maybe a plunger for entertainment value

I finally got my C8 2L petrol running again this weekend. A fully charged battery got her rolling with no running issues in the short term. However it is still showing two faults. Engine management system and Depolution system. Anyone got any insight into this.

This is a petrol C8, so may be related to the catalytic converter - these warnings generally relate to the emissions system, but we'll need the fault codes to assist further, it may be your cat is at end of life for example and you wouldn't want to be replacing that unless necessary, so get it read with Lexia and pop the codes up here.
