C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi 2013 NEW SHAPE Engine Mgt Light

Post by Rosanbo »

Driving today on motorway, as soon as I hit the cruise control I got an error on the dash

It said something like EPS/ART error get your car repaired
or EGR/APS anyway the first one started with E and the second started with A
* I know the EGR is a thing, but can't be sure if it said EGR or not.

It is only on the screen for a couple of seconds and by time you think to look there it then disappears.

It put me into limp mode. I came off motorway and stopped and restarted the limp mode went away but the Engine management light remains and the message does not come back.

ideas?

anyone got a list of all the dash errors that can be encountered?

It probably said ESP/ABS. There are myriad faults that can put the lights on, the only way to find out is to scan it with a diag tool - and preferably Diagbox.

google suggested ESP/ASR fault and it has a few results which I am still reading through.

What do ESP and ASR stand for?

Where is the ESP and ESP connector ?

It is also said that although the fault says ESP/ASR you should check the EGR first.

Where is the EGR?

My C4 is the 2013 new shape.
Luckily it passed it's MOT about 3 weeks ago.
Like autoden said above I can confirm that a faulty Egr valve can cause this problem....I have learned the hard way on a 407 1.6 hdi with same fault code...
I Unplugged egr valve connector from the fitted egr valve and connected in a new egr valve (without fitting) and clear faults......If the fault(s) Inc abs faults clear then your good to go fitting the new egr valve...
If you can get your hands on a new (or good secondhand egr valve) then its worth a try..
Ron.
Hello. I already got a car of this kind of damage and the brake works fine. This may sound silly what was causing this breakdown was the EGR. After changing the EGR fault disappeared. I hope this helps you.

Electronic Stability Programme and Anti Skid Resistance I think. Certainly on earlier cars failure of the EGR valve results in loss of ESP (been there, chased the fault for nearly a year!) but I don't know about Mk2 cars. Like I say, you need to get it scanned or you are poking about in the dark.

I'll look under the bonnet at wiring connectors but, no I won't be poking about until I get a lexia/diagbox.

Anyone in Pontypridd willing to help me out...give me shout.

Another possibility is the brake light switch - on older models - I could easily have tapped the brake when this happened.

I disconnected my EGR and it triggered ESP/ABS failure when I drove off, so it also happens with MK2's as well, Richard/Rosanbo.

That's a MK2 C5 though, Mike, which is a completely different beast to a MK2 C4 Picasso the OP is talking about! I wouldn't put it past Citroen to have carried over the same genius bit of programming though....!

On day 1 The management light first appeared in the morning and the evening driving home
On day 2 I think the management light remained morning and evening.
On day 3 Morning and evening the light did not appear
