Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Last weekend I did a run in my car which involved a lot of motorway miles, historically I have seen fuel consumption in the low forties but for this trip it has fallen to the mid thirties.
This coupled with trying to answer something on another thread made me realise that there was a lot I didn't know about EGR systems both generally and...

I checked for some faulty wires in the rear left door and for that, I disconnected the battery. After I was done, I reconnected the battery, but now the key is not recognized at all. The engine does turn when I try to start, but it won't start. Also the central locking system won't lock or unlock by pressing the buttons on the key. Similarly, the...

I've got a new oil-seal to fit to the diff - but the new seal has a plastic ring fitted to one end which looks like a set of fingers bent back in towards the seal, I am assuming this plastic ring fits to the outside of the diff - am I correct?

I couldn't get the bell housing past the sub-frame and gave up after numerous attempts - so dropped the sub-frame, which turned out to be relatively easy , loads of room then and was able to drop the bell-housing to the floor.

The old girls always had a bit of a whistle to the turbo, however i took the inlet pipe off today and found oil sat in the connector to the inlet manifold itself. Is it possible my turbo's giving up the ghost? it still pulls perfectly well but the noise gives me cause for concern if anything going to blow up :shock:

I had to take my XM to MOT today.

Otherwise I wasn't allowed to drive it a meter except from to and from workshop and MOT.

Well, at the MOT the inspector took his hammer and nocked on the undercarriage.

Just at the front subframe under all hydraulic pipes, the hammer went through the subframe.

Rust! Rust!! Rust!

And a tiny small brake pipe...

New DMF (luk) arrived today, i was checking the new versus old; there is little play in the rotational movement of the new as expected, but there is some rocking movement , probably more than I would of expected from a new one - but this is the first I have seen so not sure if ok, can anybody with more experience comment on whether this is normal...

Occasionally while driving the car flashes up the STOP warning on the dashboard, along with the light in the engine temperature gauge. Sometime the cooling fan runs when this happens, but not always. There are no other symptoms - engine temp and coolant level are fine and usually switching the engine off and restarting clears the fault. Hasn't...

If the gauge is reading OK, then it will be the fans - there is only 1 temp sensor, so if the gauge is OK, so is the sensor.

Can anyone here list the differences, between the two 1.4 litre GTi engines?
K6B is the deCat engine with 100bhp and KFZ the catalytic one, with 95bhp.
Apart from the Catalytic converter, what are the other differences?

This is a pure stab in the dark as I'm not familia with either but I would think the moggy version has an oxygen sensor which controls mixture to create more favourable conditions for the cat, the non moggy version probably does not so I would say it has a different management system or map and maybe mechanical ignition?

Hi.
The head gasket on my unblemished 2.1 XM has failed. One of the water pipes failed about 6 months ago and possibly overheated the engine, and now the head gasket has blown. Copius amounts of gas being ejected from the expansion tank.
From what I've seen this is not an easy job, the engine is in a horrible position, looks like taking the engine...

EGR won't stop it starting. You need proper diagnostic kit to see what it is (or isn't) seeing when the engine is being cranked to decide where to look. eg Is the cam/ crank synchronised? Does it register the engine is cranking? What does the fuel pressure do as the engine is being cranked?

Hi all, I'm starting to investigate the non working drivers window on the Xantia. The window is closed and simply doesn't operate. The passenger side works fine from both the passenger door switch and the driver door switch, both rear doors work fine.

I've not had the door panel off yet - that's for the weekend. Haynes book shows the wiring...

Hiya, yes I've done it before but was a few years ago - sorted now but it took all day and part of yesterday.. It is worse than on the XM 2.1 TD and 2.0 Turbo petrol ( the XMs I owned) I patched the tensioners though as I would still be there now if I'd changed them too.... the existing ones are smooth rolling and no free play so I think they will...

After realising I could get the parts and do all myself for half the price of Kwik fit, we ended up asking a garage in Stroud, they said they could supply and fit the exhaust, and 2 x tyres for £140.00. Was a good deal and better it's done up in the air, so went for that.

Hi folks, after quite a few months of inactivity, we have started work back on the van, the main hold up was obtaining a front screen panel, now this problem has been addressed we can resume the task of welding.
looking forward the next major job will be an engine replacement, the existing engine is running ok , but we feel that if the van is...

May we suggest you drive an H van with a Diesel engine? They are unbelievably noisy.
Not just because the Indenor is noisy but because you are sitting next to it and all that is separating you from the din is a removable 5 piece floor that only clips together with gaps in between the panels.
The engine bay has no room for any insulation whatever...

Fitting the tow bar that I have had in the garage for a while.....it seems I have to get a car OoopNorff soon so this seemed the best thing (and a job done)

So went to tow a trailer today. And couldn't due to the electrics not working properly at all, stuff would light up on the trailer, but indicating left would make the gearbox tick (as in locking and releasing the gear lever). And it would just fade the lights at the back

Annoying so have had to use cay's step mum's i20 to tow wasting an hour....

Well that was it :) had to drill out all 3 screws as they had rusted so much that I stripped the heads trying to get them undone. Luckily for each of them I could find a way to secure the nut at the back so the drill didn't just end up spinning the screw.

Had to use my wire cutters to get the wires out as all the terminal screws had also rusted....

My Dispatch has been for a while now,making a clonking/creaking noise. It is coming from the n/s/r, and only occurs when turning right.
I have checked the spring,shocker,anti roll bar bushes and swinging arm,and cannot find anything amiss ](*,) .I have also had someone jumping up and down on the back of the van while I checked underneath,again...

Hi All
Had my C8 for a while now, had the same fault since I bought it but only really just getting round to sorting it out.

1. Lack of power, it will rev above 3000 so not in limp mode, sometimes it is worse than others but there is no pattern to it, it will pull but runs out of steam around 3000.
2. The throttle (or engine revs) seem to stick...

I have tried on this forum to find something about changing the oil, but haven't.
I have now had this car for 2½ months / 6000km. The car has 201000km on it. I do have a little history, but do not know if/when an oil change for the auto box has been done.
Can please someone advise: What are the signs it needs doing? Roughly what's the cost / type...

Signs it needs doing, lumpy hesitant gear changes. Thuds into gear from cold. You can tell a lot about its condition from smelling it and also the colour. It should smell sweet and also be translucent in colour. If it smells burnt, is grainy between the fingers and has gone dark brown/black its time for a change. You can't DIY it in one go either...

Does anyone know where it is and which pin supplies + voltage to the pump?

I think it's in the engine bay fuse box but without a Haynes or handbook I don't have a clue :(

Just looking to apply power to test the fuel pump, and then empty the tank if it works before cutting the tank free and using it on a project with pump intact :)

If i cant get it to fire off the relays by shorting them tomorrow i'll just apply voltage on the connect plug at the tank end :)

Several attempts gave no results and I had to give up before braking plastic parts.
I took a pic of the number plate light cover which has no screws but similar hole as
seen in pic below on both sides of the plastic cover.

How do I remove this plastic cover?

When it comes to removing tight spheres, strap wrenches usually aren't man enough and snap, or the webbing has too much 'give' to take up in the available space.

Recently, when I came to remove the accumulator sphere on the Green Lady, my new home-made sphere remover would fit into the available space without damaging the radiator. In desperation...

I set off yesterday morning, heater on defrost/screen and blower on low speed. After about 3 mins the blower speeded up slightly and stopped.
I thought it was the resistor pack, as 3rd speed has been a bit iffy since I have had the car (2yrs). I dropped the motor out and fitted the resistor pack...

Hi all,
Have done the timing belt,tensioners and new water pump on my ZX estate.Now filling coolant have blown down radiator top and got coolant through bleed screws.Started engine bottom hose getting hot and top warm but no heat on heater blower.Must have a air lock somewhere.Turned off engine as I did'nt want to blow head gasket,think I'm ok....

Hi all, I am soon to take ownership of another Xantia having sold a CX. It has standard steel wheels and I'm hoping to source a set of 15 or 16 alloys to fit. I'd be happy to find the Citroen alloys for the Mk1 called 'Belfast' wheels but otherwise I'm going to search for a set of aftermarket wheels.

Thanks all, yes the strut tops are ok - the strut gaiter gets clogged with gunge in the lower fixing that's meant to allow the strut to turn with steering but the gunge jams it and the strut gaiter twists and pops off the top fixing and then gets caught and deformed by the top of the strut when the car sinks - deforms so doesn't refit properly at...

This is driving me NUTS....engine starts fine, runs for around two minutes then starts running lumpy, similar to a petrol engine if the choke is left out. Sounds like the suction is collapsing a pipe internally, or you have a floating blockage .....you can you back flush the pipe work with the pump and some clean fuel....

Looking for some help.

Managed to break my sensor. What is needed in order to fit another sensor either new or second hand?

If I fit a second hand is there any numbers I need from the sensor. Seen a second hand one but the barcode sticker is missing.

Luckily for me I had it done under extended warranty. Depending on model, condensers seem to range anywhere from £80 - £280 inc. VAT, but of course the car will have to be degassed and re/gassed, plus the dreaded labour, so I wouldn't like to guess the final bill.

Hello.

I'm experiencing some brake fluid loss from the resevoir of my '02 2.2HDi C5.

There are no external signs of any leaks on the underside of the car nor near the servo.

I suspected the master cyclinder was leaking fluid into the vacuum system of the servo and being burnt off in the engine. However, having removed the m/cyl from the servo...

Probably no help but when my c5 02 leaked fluid it appeared on the centre of one of the wheels and spread out as I drove.
That was after brake pads were fitted. The pedal lacked resistance and eventually the resovoir was empty. Only then did the garage accept it wasn't the pads bedding in.

so went and bought a 2004 C5 LX2.0 HDI auto estate full history 11 months test belts done, new radiator last year

as usual few things need doing heater resister for one, aerial missing. rear wash and window us wiper ok
no sign of fluid change on auto box drives ok not sure on the kick down how it works at 70 should you be able to get it to kick...

sorted the lack of kickdown on auto box throttle cable needed adjusting too much free play
heater resister sorted had to fit a modified one due to plug melting (common) fault
new pads fitted (advisory on last test near metal so well overdue (also 3 different sets of pads...

little update sorted kickdown out was too much free play on cable
and no need to pull the fuse box to get to it you can get into it by removing the air filter/box and fusebox cover and strut cover
you can see the cable through the air box side and adjust the cable with one hand down between the strut top and fuse box other hand by the airbox bit...

Hi guys

My wife's car wouldn't start yesterday and we immediately assumed it was a dead battery.

However, this is not the case and I can confirm that battery, alternator and starter motor are all okay.

We got it going by push starting and it now displays an ANTIPOLLUTION fault and engine management light stays on.

It does now start but fault...

My daughters C1 had a new dealer fitted clutch including bearing less than a year ago. She now has a constant chirping, whistling type noise which will disappear when she depresses the clutch pedal a short distance and obviously during gear changes. Does this sound like an iffy thrust bearing??

I have a Citroen xantia 1.8 16v 1999 with the al4 auto gearbox with snow sport mode buttons

Please could you look at your chips to see if ac436 brum cigale is lighter than ac427 brum scarabee?

I am trying to order the paint for my Citroen GS, the paint code is ac436 but the paint on the bulkhead under the code seems to be a lighter shade of metallic brown than the outside of the car....

AC-436 is my car (seems to be a MY78, MY79 poo brown metal, a bit more reddish):

This xantia has given me it's first leak of LHM nearly 2 years since I bought the lovely, found it to be one of the pipes on the front passenger side tyre which was dressed in LHM, had no road side recovery of any sort, so I drove home from Wigan via M6 for 20 miles and got home without any trouble. Xantia's parked up now waiting to be seen on...

Brother is looking for a 7 or 8 seater mpv mainly for school runs and wk end activities (no 4x4's), budget is ￡2500.
He has been looking at the v70 d5 which is a nice car but a tad expensive as the reliable year starts at 2004 onwards, I have mentioned the C8 Hdi, Peugeot 807 Hdi, Zafira Dti, galaxy tddi and Grandis, but thats just going off web...
