Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)

Unread post by Albinoeke »

Hi!
I'm new here on the forums and i need some advice/help.

I just bought a xantia with no more than 6500 miles (65000km) on the counter.
But the deal is my fan stopped working some weeks ago.
At first it started right away but like a month later it only worked after restarting the car a few times but now it doesnt work at all.
Also a weird thing is that when the rear heated window wouldnt start the fan wouldnt either (which does not work now either)
All of the fuses are good, i can still control the heat/cold but the fan wont blow (if i drive fast some air comes out)

I suspect its either one of the relays in the engine bay or the fan motor..

Also i need the right locations for the relays because it seems one is missing and when removed nothing happens.

I am assuming that you are talking about the interior fan, not the radiator cooling fans. (if it is the radiator fans, there is a different topic for them).

The Mk1 Xantia left the factory with no relay for the interior fan or heated rear window, but many have had one added as a result of burnt contacts on the ignition switch.

Have a read through viewtopic.php?f=19&t=24786 and the topics linked from there...

Yes i am talking about the interior fan.
So i guess these relays i took a photo of is just spares?

Thanks i'll have a look at the linked thread :-)

The relays in the under-bonnet fuse box vary with build date and engine types, but include: A/C, ABS, front fog lights, Headlight washer timer, Diesel timing corrector, Diesel post heat, starter safely relay, and a couple of others I can't remember for now (and I don't currently have access to all the variant diagrams). It is likely that your vehicle is not fitted with one of those options.

There could also be an Engine Running Relay, which only operates when there is output from the alternator, and powers up various current-hungry systems.
If you could post your VIN number (which will appear masked) we could start to look at the vehicle factory spec and wiring diagrams.

That's not your VIN - The VIN will begin VF and be 17 characters long.

I only have the circuit for the Series 2 Xantia - although some of the heater control panels were very similar between the S1 and S2 models. So bear this in mind when looking at this as it may still be helpful.

Xantia MK II 1.8 Petrol Cabin Heating Controls
8040: Blower Speed Control (if separate)
8046: Blower Motor Resistor (if separated)
8048: The Blower Relay
8050: Blower Motor (if separate)

I'm not very good at reading wiring diagrams and it doesnt seem to be exacly the same as mine, but i suppose the brown connector is for the controls and red(positive) black(ground) but there is another brighter red connector i'm not really sure about. (Is this for rhw?)

Also when the fan worked and would turn off it clicked pretty loud (most likely from a relay) if that helps anything.

The control unit seems to be working fine as i can use both heat and cold.

Yes, will likely be different as I said this was for a S2. I've looked at the wiring and even the colours are different, so didn't bother putting these up.

Unfortunately I don't have a diagram for the S1s.
