First, mine is a left hand drive, year 2010. With the car being new-to-me, I bought a set of filters - oil, air, cabin, like a good boy.
Air - fitted OK, no problems.
Cabin - eventually found and retrieved old one (driver's side). To get the old one out I had to practically ruin it - just not enough room, with accelerator (not big prob.) and brake pedal (right in the way). No clutch (automatic). But at least it is very dirty, so I guess the change will be noticeable.
I can't see how I will get the new one in. Any tips, please?
Oil filter. I have not spotted this, despite a good search. Can anyone help, please? Also, any hints?

Place it against the bulkhead and then bend it slightly to get in in place, did mine a few days ago and must be even harder with RHD because the back of the glovebox gets in the way.rmunns wrote:Anyone please on cabin filter? - I'm stuck!

Thanks, I'll try now. If I get stuck again, would you pop in on your way to Monaco?

Re: C5 II (X7) - 2.0 Hdi 160 - cabin filter and oil filter -
The location of the cabin pollen filter is very poorly thought out if indeed any thought was used. Having replaced mine last night (RHD) and with the benefit of hindsight I might have used some silicon spray or silicon polish on the top and lower edges. It felt as though I was wrecking the the new filter given the bending and twisting to get it in and am still not sure that the far end is fully home.
The C5 II had a 5.5 mm screw to locate the pollen filter cover cover but I'm not sure if the C5 X7 should have or not as there were none present.
Just another point I take it that the air flow through the filter is towards the back of the car, if anyone can put me right on this.
The oil filter on our 136 2.0L Hdi is to the right of the alternator, a black plastic cover and needs a 27mm socket to liberate it, the same size socket is needed for the fuel filter.
Hope that helps
Andy.

Re: C5 II (X7) - 2.0 Hdi 160 - cabin filter and oil filter -
Thanks for the info regarding the oil filter location - I'll see if mine is the same..
Cabin filter; yes, the airflow is towards back of car. Mine also has no screw for the cover, although it's clear where it would go, but there are two 'clickers' holding the cover in.
Warning. I got my new cabin filter in, but tried to be too clever and pushed it in too far. Big problem - it 'falls' sideways into the void and is a bu**er to get back into place. I used a 3mm allen key and several choice swearwords.

Regarding the pollen filter, Cit Service says: "It will be necessary to play on the flexibility of the filter in order to be able to extract it". In other words - it's a tight fit.

To translate that correctly from the original French it should read
"Oh crap, we had a brain fart, we forgot about it and had throw something in there" !

lol, that's the instructions for extraction. The OP is asking how to refit a replacement, which could be even more of a fudge. On mine (RHD) I had to crease the filter to get it fully home - can't imagine having a full set of pedals in the way too! So it seems, the neanderthal method of "just force it" is the only solution.

You think the C5 filter is difficult? You should try a Rover 75. Remove the scuttles from around the bottom of the windscreen Remove the filter face plate and destroy it to get it out. It is placed in a plenum chamber between the engine bay and cabin and is between the bulkhead and the ECU. There is about 20 mm of working space and the new filter has to be bent almost double to fit it. The ECU sits nicely in the plenum chamber, which is famous for the 3 drain tubes getting blocked and "drowning" the ECU. You can hear the water sloshing from side to side when the drains block, but by then it's usually a case of taking the ECU out and drying it. Re: C5 II (X7) - 2.0 Hdi 160 - cabin filter and oil filter - ???
Hi, All,
Just fitted a replacement Pollen filter to my 2011 C5 today and think I may have done something wrong?, the steps I took were.
1, Move seat to rearmost position,
2, Removed foot well finishing panel, goes front left to centre under glove box.
3, Removed the center console lower forward trim.
4, Removed the Facia panel ventilation channel (small 50 mm diameter elbow pipe).
5, Un-clipped the filter retaining plate.
6, Removed the filter, needed to use a screw driver to help.
7, Rolled the new filter so both ends were about touching.
8, Slid the filter in without any problems.
9 Rebuilt the car as per the steps above.
About 6 minutes to do, my first time, on this car, no swearing on moaning, so what did I do wrong?
Oh the hardest part was determining the orientation of the filter, but thanks to the post earlier I had a rough idea.
Note, I l also added a screw, to just be on the safe side of caution.

Good one, so how did u determine the orientation of the filter ? Also any ideas on where the Aircond water evaporation tubes are located?
