Yes its the c5 from Doncaster again. Could you tell me if my car 2011 c5 e-hdi 1.6 has speedsensative steering. Some times when stood in traffic the steering wheel goes hard / stiff to turn then as quickly as it comes it goes again , ( the stiffness I mean )

Re: powered steering
You have the electro pump version on your C5. It does provide variable assistance based on the speed.
What can affect the steering is of course battery!
It is independently powered, so can continue to function as it gets its supply direct from the battery - but if your battery is in a poor condition (especially if you have Stop Start) too, then this may affect it. I managed to drive 20 miles on mine when my alternator belt went a while ago - I didn't notice until I was home and the steering got really stiff - of course everything had been running off the battery with it being recharged.
So they are uber reliable. I would ignore it, but I would check that your power steering fluid is topped up to the correct level (you have metallic suspension) so should just have a small reservoir for this alone. Also coming out of winter months - always a good idea to give the battery a nice trickle charge.

Re: powered steering
Hi
Thanks for that reply, it was quick. I will take a look at the levels later this afternoon.I have the car booked into Citroen next month for a new clutch. I had the gear box and clutch checked out on Lexia but it did not show any problems but she does slip a little in any gear above 3rd.

Re: powered steering
I remember you saying - I think it could be the Dual Mass Flywheel, Clutch or both. What's the current mileage? Have either the DMF or the clutch been done before?

Re: powered steering
As far as I know the clutch and flywheel are original at 86K. Engine is spot on and so is the" metal " suspension. Many years ago I had a DS 23 with the hydraulic control of the clutch and gear selection . It was a right ball ache of a job to set up but when it was done right the car was a marvel to drive with a little hiss here and there when you selected the next gear required.

Re: powered steering
Ok so 86k is pretty good to be honest. My DMF was shot at 40k, when they did the clutch due to slipping. They caught it just in time and showed me the state of it. The previous owner towed a caravan with it so I expect that’s one of the reasons.
So plan to have both DMF and clutch done at the same time as it will no doubt need doing especially as it won’t last as long as a new clutch and will cost all the labour again to do the same job effectively.

Re: powered steering
Citroen Doncaster are quoting me
£699 for citroen clutch
£350 for DMF
Those prices are inc. vat and labour. They will want the car two days so will be lending me some thing to drive for that period.

Re: powered steering
That's about right - the clutch kit from Citroen is generally very competitively priced - current prices for parts alone including VAT are:
Genuine New OEM Parts:
Clutch Kit: £357.13 (2052Z1)
DMF: £415.76 (0532W4)
Exchange Service Parts:
Clutch Kit: £285.71 (2052Z2)
DMF: £320.99 (1613938280)
So that's £772.89 for VAT inclusive new parts parts or £606.70 for exchange parts alone inc. VAT.
It will be interesting to see which parts they use for that price.... I've put the part numbers in brackets, so you can query / check what they are using.
