2017 Berlingo diesel filter primer

Post by Chrisl »

I’m struggling to find the primer on my van, 1.6bluehdi, the filter and housing do not have the usual button for priming after changing the filter.
I have looked and cannot even see a inline squeeze primer .
Can anyone enlighten me ?

HDi engines don't (AFAIK) normally need a primer.

Oh, :welc: to the forum, by the way.

Thanks for your advice Hell Razor and cheers for the welcome, I will be completting if my profile shortly.
Please accept my apologies for not introducing myself before posting but I desperately need to change the filter and it’s been driving me mad.
If there is anyone else that can confirm that there isn’t a primer involved I will change the filter and hold my breath , presumably there is a pump that takes care of the bleeding?
Thanks again

When you turn on the ignition but wait to start the engine you should hear the in-tank pump run for a few seconds - if it does have an in-tank pump.
In that case it will be self priming.

Pretty sure the Blue HDi has gone back to a lift pump in the tank. Check what it says in the handbook about running out of fuel, if it says just turn it on, then there is a lift pump. Best if you change the filter to cycle ignition on and off 4 or 5 times to cycle the pump until you hear the gurgling stop in the tank.

Haha, I’m on my third Berlingo now and always found the primer, manuals are usually stored unread.
Many thanks.
