Hello. OK my 2.0 vtr diesel has fault code 0088 now. High fuel pressure. My local citroen dealer took pity and offered to try and find why its so sluggish rough and misfires.
They done every test and trial said it was fixed but I still have the high fuel pressure fault.
Anyone ideas where I can look myself or will I just burn it now.
Thanks
Right. Burn it

Re: Right. Burn it
In my experience the dealer was utterly clueless.
After 13 days of misdiagnosis and guesswork I took the car to a local garage with a good reputation as a diesel specialist.
They diagnosed the problem in an hour and a half.

Re: Right. Burn it
Here's the fault causes, symptoms and suspect areas:
P088: High pressure fuel regulation - The measured rail pressure is too high in relation to the set point.
Cause: The ECU detects a difference of 180 bars to 250 bars for 3 to 6 seconds between the rail pressure set point and the measured rail pressure.
Downgrade conditions whilst fault is present:
So there may be some crap in there blocking it causing the high pressure build up... Where do you normally fill up? Supermarket or other?

Cause: The ECU detects a difference of 180 bars to 250 bars for 3 to 6 seconds between the rail pressure set point and the measured rail pressure.
Downgrade conditions whilst fault is present:
- Deactivation of processing of the accelerometry
- Deactivation of the accelerometry strategies
- Deactivation of the detection of loop difference on the fuel flow rate regulator
- Deactivation of the injector flow rate correction strategy
- Jerking/stalling
- Unwanted acceleration
- Noise
- Smoke from the exhaust
- Lack of power
- Starting problem
- Engine ECU (Software not up to date)
- Poor fuel or polluted fuel (petrol, deposit, etc.)
- Problem on the fuel low or high-speed circuit (hose, tank, diesel fuel filter, etc.)
- Fuel injectors
- Engine fuse box
- Electrical harness
- Connectors
- High pressure fuel pump
- Fuel high pressure sensor

unwanted acceleration?? maybe this is what is causing some "out of control" crashes????
I have found some "glitter" in the fuel filter floor sometimes which i feel is coming from/off the filter "wavy washer", but last time i changed the fuel filter there was some "fine rust coloured crap" on the fuel filter floor. I tend to fill up at the same pump at the same fuel station but have from time to time filled up at Tesco, Morrisons and Asda, as well as from fuel stations down south during the summer holiday.
You pays your money and just hope really.
I have thought of an extra pre oe filter sediment trap and filter unit with a clear bowl, but i do not want to add extra restriction for the tank electric pump. The tank pump is due to be removed to check tank floor and clean the pumps filters, but the dam picasso is still dead and in my work space.
I get where you are coming from about torching the car, i am begining to hate the picasso, it also has water under the false floor, so probably would not burn that well!!

Re: Right. Burn it
It has been mooted that glitter in the filter bowl is due to wear on the in-tank pump.

Graham,
There are 2 good independent citroen specialists in Edinburgh that I've used in the past.
1 is in Arthur Street Edinburgh just of Pilrig Road, bought my last Xantia from here.
2 is in 118 Pitt Street, Edinburgh.Phone and ask to speak Hugh (known as Shug).
Shug did my timing belt on my C5 saved me the hassle.

Re: Right. Burn it
It has been mooted that glitter in the filter bowl is due to wear on the in-tank pump.
Point taken but is the pump a "roller" type" will check this evening from my info, but any particles above 5 microns? will be trapped by the filter. The fuel return to the tank is filtered by the fuel filter before it makes its way to the hp pump and injectors? and before the return to the tank on top of the filter?? I have seen this glitter in the tank floor as well, so may even be from the fuel gauge swiper or even the fuel station pumps??
anyways that's a different thread topic......
it is suggested that the hp pump fuel pressure regulator unit can be removed for cleaning??
