Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've added a Type B MFD & the Trip Computer button at the end of the wiper stalk to my '04 Berlingo and have some unexpected options on the MFD when scrolling through. Please can anyone help filling in the gaps?
There may be a clue that the MFD is apparently from a 2005 C8, same part number fits a C5 too I think

Does anyone know the diameter of the dipstick tubing on the DW10C? It seems substantially narrower than the DW10B.

And just to be clear, I'm talking about the actual pipe from the sump that the dipstick sits in - not the dipstick itself.

I've recently purchased a C5 1.6HDI Estate with 116000 miles. It has a perfect main dealer service history with each service being carried out exactly to the 12000 mile schedule (up to 108K). It's running well and I'm generally very pleased, but am concerned about the prevalenece of turbo failures.

Hello,

my new 07 c5 exclusive Hatch Service light lights up at night for about 10 seconds and goes out again.
The car has just been serviced by Pleiades and from what I gather the service light was supposed to have been reset
During the daytime lights off the light doesn't come on at all.

Ive done a BSI reset and it did stay off all day...

It's not European legislation that's driven electronic control and on-board diagnostics - that was happening anyway, driven by the manufacturers (cheaper, simpler, faster to assemble, less skilled maintenance etc).

What European legislation drove was a common standard (connection plug and comms protocol) that all manufacturers must install (OBD)...

It's broken! To be more precise, it's stopped working; we've only had the car 2 weeks. Parked the car this evening in the twilight, boot refuses to open; earlier in the afternoon, the tailgate 'handle' was a bit iffy in engaging the switch, - now the handle just rattles around and won't engage the switch.

Just had a promotional e-mail from Lidl - amongst a load of stuff I have no interest in, from Sunday they will have Thermal Windscreen Protectors £2.99 printed with suitably Arctic images! There appear to be two sizes.

Hi,

I had a 'return fluid pipe' separate in the NSF wheel arch. I didn't notice anything at all for months except a tiny amount of LDS visible in water when I washed the car. The pipe breakage was picked up in a MOT last November, I had the fault put right, the 'slightly different than normal noise' from the pump when the car 'wakes-up' after...

The car has been fine since I put 1.75 Litres of LDS into the system..! There was a leak on the return side on the NSF return pipe in the wheel arch. I had this put right last November, however as far as I know no LDS was added to the system! I wasn't charged for any. I had noticed an odd spot of LDS on the driveway...

I've been teaching the kids to drive in the Xsara, and it's highlighted a problem I hadn't noticed before - when it stalls (learners do this a lot...) it will not restart unless the key ignition key is taken out first. Parked my '09 2.0HDi up yesterday, left the engine running for a few minutes - it seemed to drop onto 3 cylinders briefly, perhaps 3/4 seconds. Ooh er! It has done it once before...engine hot, park up, leave running for a few minutes, drops onto 3 after 30 secs ish, then back to normal. :? Just want to share my experience inadvertently pulling apart the 'clock spring' ribbon cable and geared mechanism and supporting pcb that handles the steering wheel angle sensor, steering wheel column switches and airbag/horn wiring connection rotation.... I have at last got a working Lexia =D> but that has lead to more problems, it works OK on the 406 but refuses to read the C5 even though when quizzed it comes up with the correct VIN number, it says 'lack of information' or something similar when I try to connect with it, I can by doing something or other get it to display the various areas but...

After running a check with my Lexia, the following message shows-
1. no communication with the Steering Wheel angle sensor incorrect value received Fault Code P05D2.
2 Remote Fault. Temporary Fault Data Invalad Engine ECU incorrect value received P05D2'

I thought I'd invest in a new battery, the current one being about 5 years old now. My usual first port-of-call is Euro Car Parts - decent prices, and there's a branch only a few miles away from home. Yes it is confusing Pete, looking at the diagram on the plastic you would think they could get the poles the right way round! Trouble is, taking the negative off first as recommended, is the most awkward as no 'pull clamp' and not the easiest to access the bolts with the battery charge control unit in the way too.

Hi ive been getting into my steering wheel sensor that ive had the odd intermittent error from but mostly works. In the process of taking the column switch module off i pulled the whole thing apart, as i couldnt work out how to take the air bag connections off.

Any way ive gotten it back together after cleaning and not sure if its working or...

I would be so grateful for any advice:
My car had the head gasket done in the summer. Last few months I noticed an oil leak so took it to my garage. They changed cam shaft seals but it wasn't that. They noticed a 'groove' on the cam shaft pulley so they decided it was that not allowing a good seal so I have had a new pulley on as well as seals....

Quick query! My '09 2.0HDi is on 75k miles. Am I right in thinking that the correct oil is synthetic 5w30 that meets ACEA C2? ECP show 5w40 also, Opie just show 5w30.....and my handbook shows bugger all!

Well I haven't tried a C5 myself but a Xantia 10mm below spec is a deathtrap. I can feel it quite obviously when I drive them and I wouldn't condone the lowering of any hydropneumatic car for style myself.

The new car doesn't have a spare wheel (nor did either of those I saw advertised with one!) - just a compressor as the 'ANTI-BURSTING BOMB' (can of tyre sealer) is missing. Not only no spare wheel, but no jack or wheel brace either! A new C4 jack (they're all the same) is £35!!! Sadly, the storage space is too small to take my spare Xantia jack....

The car arrived with the front down and the rear normal.

It would not move using the buttons. The owner was told to buy a new Pump by a Sussex based garage that previously said the same car needed a new turbocharger .

My car is a 2011 c5 1.6 e-hdi vtr+ egs6 and I have noticed that when starting from cold the engine oil heats up a lot quicker that the cooling system does. Now on my 2009 2ltr hdi vtr+
the water used to heat up a hell of a lot quicker than the oil but on this (new to me ) car it is the other way around. Is this normal ?????? By the way,I can't...

I have a late 2011 C5 Tourer with the 2.0hdi 163hp engine and mine does exactly the same. The oil temp increases before the coolant temperature. On my old Peugeot 206 2.0hdi dTurbo the coolant would always get warmer before the oil gauge would move.

Hi All,

Just took the C5 to my friends garage and it passed with 4 advisories

os drop link dust cover deteriorated ns droplink very slight play at lower ball joint

R/o/s brake caliper slightly binding.

I'm going to be changing Oil Filter and oil anyway so minor work to be done.

When the engine cuts out/stutters, does removing the tank filler cap help? Just wondering whether there's a partial vacuum forming in the tank as it empties, fighting against the pump.

Strange thing, my 94 xantia 1.8 heater blows cool at idle but if I raise the revs it gets warmer?

Failing that, check the thermostat; they don't last even as long as cambelts. I've put 3 or 4 new ones in the Green Lady in the course of 10 years (the first within a few months of buying her), though IIRC they all failed to open fully, rather than not closing.

Hi...bit of a strange one. I noticed through last winter and this one that they remote wont unlock or lock the car if its been chilly. I can use the fob key to manualy unlock (although it sets the alarm off until I put the key in the ignition).
When I get to work and the car has warmed up the fob works fine...
As it has worked through the year up...

My third and last query today. I have recently bought a ZX. It has only one key, not a plip.
Here are a couple of thoughts. Should it have a blip - it seems to have the RF thingy by the interior light.
If it has can I still buy a plip or plips and tune it/them in?

Can't find a normal, as opposed to plip, blank key. The distributor's parts dept...

Has anyone had water build up in a C3 Headlight unit?

It's been documented on C3 owners as down to the sealing foam inside the plastic cover behind the headlight unit not being put back in properly, usually after a bulb change (not guilty), causing water to get in.

Hmm, well I took the back cover off today and the foam had twisted in one part...

When I changed the Matrix I thought i'd fixed this little bug, but it seems to have cropped back up again (potentially when I took it off to try and sort the dash bulbs). Basically the wheel controls work perfectly unless you're turning (or if I were to try and use them stationary with the wheel turned), anything past 90degrees and it starts...

Well it's my spare, but if your's is broken and mine isn't you're welcome to it. You can have the leather wheel, I don't need it. The whole thing was kept for the ribbon cable and the clock spring. I can probably meet you on my way back down here in March, prity sure I pass through Cheshire on route.

I've only had my 2.0 petrol C8 for a short time, having bought it with only 70,000 on the clock but a collapsed clutch thrust bearing. As such I replaced the 3 piece clutch and gearbox oil.

Since then I've been using it and have noticed that it will sometimes jump out of 4th and 5th gear. Think it did it in 3rd once too.

From what I gather, the cables can't be adjusted.

Its selects all the gears fine, engine on or off.

The odd thing is that in 4th there seems to be a bit more 'play' in so much that the gearstick can be seen to move a bit when accelerating or decelerating.

Check that the outer cable is not loose in the crimped end, they often become loose and...

I've been seeing a lot of C4 Picasso's of late, in my search for a replacement for swmbo's knackered Focus, with non-starting issues. Some have no info on the dash, some all the electronics work but it still doesn't want to know. Is there a general fault with these cars or is a session on Lexia a must in order to find and fix?

That procedure is much bandied about, but I doubt it is PSA. A minute to get oil pressure? Never seen the low oil pressure light on either of mine after an oil change....

Perhaps that's because you fill the new filter with clean oil before fitting (unless it's one of those stupid upside-down arrangements)?

If I were you I would get matching tyres on each axle a bit quick! Having different tyres can cause issues with ABS / ESP systems - especially with automatics, but will not help with braking given each tread has a different pattern and braking characteristics!

The car has, or did have a/c. There appears to be a plate immediately behind the crank pulley, and it's a combination of the plate and pulley that seems to be stopping me fitting a new sensor. I managed to get the old one out but only after drilling out the top plastic locating lug. The crank pulley is larger than other ones shown in the Haynes...

My Xantia is missing one of the bonnet Earth straps. Would this potentially cause the car to make little pinging noises for a few minutes after the engine is turned off? The strap will be replaced soon and I shall find out but I'd like to know if I need to be thinking about anything else at the same time.

My car is a C3 Mk2 (2009-2016) and has climate control. The blower stopped a couple of months ago and has never worked since, although the fan blade icons (which indicate blower speed on the display) are working as normal.
