I got all excited when I saw your prices- but then I realised that this may well be just for the glass :? My daughter has managed to get the whole mirror assy. torn from the car by a Hermes van. All I am left with is a plug with 9 pins.

The driver admitted fault- he had not secured his rear door, the wind caught it and the door flew out as my daughter drove past. Front screen and door mirror taken out.
Cosmetic damage to front wing and passenger door- which we are prepared to swallow.
Hermes transport office agreed their liability and said that they would make arrangements.
Since which time-----nothing. Our problem is that having taken Hermes at their word my daughter did not see the need to inform her insurers- we might have issues here.
The reason she did not rush to tell her insurers is that we know, to our cost, that declaring even a no fault/ no claim event will result in a premium hike at renewal.

If full liability is proven / admitted she shouldn't have any issue - no fault claims that are fully recovered should not impact her record at all. It was a case of negligence by the other driver they should be amply covered for this under business insurance. I would never take anyone at their word, and always take photographic evidence / call the police as it was negligence that could of resulted in a a serious injury if this happened to a pedestrian or cyclist!

I appreciate that insurance companies deal face to face and ask you not to get involved - but Hermes does not have a great reputation round here and they do tend to user a lot of self-employed agents to do their deliveries. I can't think that bad publicity is something that they would want in this very competitive area. I do hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction though.

I once had to go to a far in a remote area of Wales to sort some IT issues out and en route a bull had escaped from a farmer's yard. It came towards me so I pulled the XM over to the side and switched the engine off. The farmer came hurtling down the lane trying to get it to go past and instead it took a fancy to my XM and mounted the bonnet, cracked the windscreen glass and dented everything.

The farmer admitted liability and a witness (the farmer's neighbour I later found out) confirmed this. However my insurance company later informed me the witness had turned hostile and blamed me!

Anyway new bonnet paint job and windscreen was done and it never affected me as I protected my no claims anyway and always have done. But it has taught me never to trust anyone when it comes to this. The farmer didn't know that I lived a few miles away and word soon got around about the incident and I think he realised he picked on the wrong person.

Thanks for all this info. You have touched on insurers and No Claims Bonus- and this is where the rub is. A while back my other daughter was broadsided by a minicab jumping a red light. The cabs insurance company accepted liability and a no fault claim was settled.
Her NCB was not impacted in any way.... but her renewal premium went from £600 to £2300.

If they are dragging their heels, give them a limited time to respond then take them to the small claims court.
