Hi all,
I 've some LHM seals (green dot) from my Xantia & BX days and would like to check if they're ok for LDS service on the C5 ( '52 h3+ mk1). TBH not even sure if they're the right sizes yet.
Have a slight leak from rear axle nr wheel, could be a breather, could be almost anything I know, just wondered if I should be buying a handful of LDS seals for when I get round to looking at the leak. Pretty sure I've already replaced the gaiter there, have a spare one if needed.
I have taken a search, saw a couple of posts and the gist was that they're just hydraulic seals, but wanted to check specifically.
Thanks!

Re: LHM vs LDS seals
I think that LDS is a mineral based fluid, if so, No.

Re: LHM vs LDS seals
I thought they were both mineral-based.
A check on Total's MSDS sheet will confirm.
Just checked on Total site.
LHM mineral, LDS synthetic.
Unsure about implications for seals.

Re: LHM vs LDS seals
Thanks Gents, I think its not worth using them on the C5. And I suppose they must be quite old anyway!
Found out where its leaking from whilst it was on the ramps for its MOT - the (wide) end of the gaiter. Breather tubes are fine. The gaiter is in good condition but I'm concerned why fluid is getting passed it. The clip is tight and it seems to be on there fine. In fact it did a mini puddle at the back when the front end was up.
Does this mean I need a new seal/s on the "ram" / piston maybe?
Hoping to take a proper look tomorrow, I could de-pressurise, take off the gaiter and look at that hydraulic ram.

Re: LHM vs LDS seals
LDS is synthetic, is that not what the S stands for?
Im sure someone on here a while back left some LHM seals in a jar with LDS for a few weeks & there was no noticeable damage.
I also seem to remember someone discovering that there were quite a few shared part numbers on pipes/seals for both LHM & LDS cars.

Re: LHM vs LDS seals
Hi wheeler, that's interesting missed that. Did one where the two fluids were mied together in a jar too.
I reckon in the case of the fluid leaking from the ram that it may be a good idea to get some ram cylinder seals (three off?) as well as the supply pipe seal?

Just grabbed this from Wikipedia;
"The 2001 Citroën C5 has continued development of Hydractive suspension with Hydractive 3. Compared to earlier cars, the C5 stays at normal ride height even when the engine is turned off for an extended period, through the use of electronics. The C5 also uses orange synthetic hydraulic fluid named LDS fluid in place of the green LHM mineral oil used in millions of hydropneumatic vehicles.[22]"

Re: LHM vs LDS seals
Just for info - I'll be changing the suspension gaiter and the three seals in the cylinder after picking up this kit (sphere seal also included, top right).
Is it OK to add the name of the supplier?

Put the name and any links in the "Recommended Garages And Services" forum.
You can break up the phone number to be human-only readable add spaces and spell out some of the digits
Do the same with any links write -dot- in place of the "."
