Sudden engine knock, and management light on

Hi,

I drive a 2006 Berlingo 1.9D. It has never missed a beat. Stared off from home yesterday - after 2 miles I got sudden
engine noise, and the management light came on. If you switch off, and start engine again noise comes back, and management
light comes back on after about 5 seconds. It continues to knock, and the light stays on.

Any ideas?

If it was my car I would check the oil level.

Is it a dw8 engine? Could be the injector with the lift sensor playing up. They run but sound awful when the go.

This is classic behaviour of a failing advance electrovalve on the injection pump on the DW8.
Its an easy job to change but the part is not cheap, not from Citroen anyway.
Yes of corse confirm the oil level is ok & check what fault code has been logged first.
