Hi everyone. Can anyone answer this question for me please.
I have a Mk1 C5 2.0 Hdi (110bhp) 5 speed manual. How far from the floor should the clutch pedal be when it starts to bit? When I say bit, I mean the point at which the car starts to crawl forward. Mine seems to be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. The clutch pedal then seems to travel nearly to the top before the clutch is fully engaged. I would say it's about 2 to 1 inch from the top. Is that normal?
Thank you for your help.

Re: Clutch biting point
My recently deceased C5 was similar, only bit at almost the end of the travel. Was like that when I bought it about six years ago.
Four years ago it began slipping slightly occasionally, would do it for a couple of weeks then be fine for a couple of months.
It did get worse recently but was scheduled for recycling anyway. The last two days before it was delivered to the scrapyard it was perfect.
The previous C5 was similar without the slipping. I did have a new clutch and DMF fitted to that one though.

Re: Clutch biting point
Thanks myglaren. My C5 had a clutch kit and dual mass 18 months ago due to the release bearing collapsing. The clutch does not slip, but there does seem to be a lot of travel from the bit point to full engagement. From what you have said, it would appear to be normal. Do you have any experience of the 2.2 hdi with an auto box?
I was wondering what they are like for reliability and fuel consumption.

The Citroen Mechanics' Handbooks include detail on checking clutch pedal and clutch action.
Choose the C5 booklet for the year of your car, or a later edition.
Go to Board index > Members' Area > Resources
You'll need to make a small forum donation for access to this area, as the information is sourced from Citroen parts data.
The booklets are pdf's, so downloadable and printable. The donation will give you access to all the booklets there.
