C6 First recurring faultcodes

Unread post by cornesoutafrica »

Hi Everyone

Well, so far she has been good, but last weekend I got my first recurring faultcodes.

A bit of background. I was on the highway and had to pass a car. Just as I passed the car at almost full throttle back to 4th gear I felt a loss of power, engine light and emission fault. Got home and checked the codes which was P1164 Fuel pressure signal and P0087. Reset the code, a day after I drove her again. Apon arriving at a stopstreet she just died and after restart the engine light came on and emission fault... P1164 again. I replaced the dieselfilter just incase. A few days after I drove he and arriving at a stop street she just died. Same code. She has since not died coming to a standstill but if I do give her high throttle on a long highway passing a car it triggers the light and emission fault with code P1164. Can this mean the high pressure fuelpump is going bust or is there a possibility that it can be the diesel pressure sensor?

Another question, the rear brake pads. are they C6 specific or are they shared with other models too?

Regards
Corne

Those codes would seem to relate to the fuel pressure Corne, but there is little further detail on 2.7 engine fitted to the C6.

You would need a lexia on it with live data measuring to check the fuel pressure reference values against the measured pressure values. The measured pressure should follow the reference values. If not, then your rail fuel pressure sensor is probably shot. This can lead to stalling and starting problems and also to engine power limits.

Do be very wary of cheap sensors though, as I have seen cases where the sensor has been changed and the problem has not been resolved - when a second decent quality sensor was used, the problem was resolved.

If you want to test the pressure sensor, you can measure the voltages from the sensor pins to the engine ECU. Static voltage readings under acceleration can indicate the sensor is faulty.

As for the rear pads, the part number is unique to the C6 and not shared with other models.

Hi Marc

Thanks for the info. I will first check the sensor voltages. I can track live data with my generic bluetooth unit. I would however like to get a proper lexia cable one day. Anyway. I have experienced limited power without any codes before. Which supplier would you recommend? there seem to be a massive amount of cheap units available. What brand of pressure sensor would be the go to unit? I do not have the fuel pressure reference values. will that be on the lexia system? I doubt my generic unit got it.

I thought as much about the rear brake pads. that explains the pricetag, they seem to be a fair bit more expensive than the front pads....

The Lexia clone that a lot of people on the Forum have used is that sold by Easy Diagnostics. They have no connection to the Forum, but there is a discount scheme. However, I cannot say how much it would cost to ship one to SA (or even if they can).

Yes, that’s the beauty of a Lexia kit as you can undertake a lot of tests and get live data on a wide range of parameters.

You’ll need a laptop with Windows 7 32 bit preferably. The actual clones are widely available and do range in quality- and price, so make sure you get a decent one with revision C hardware. The supplier should provide you with Diagbox 7 but don’t install V8 as it simply is overkill for the year of your car and really only needed for newer vehicles.

Typically some Asian sites have kits that may be nearer to you for shipping.

If, when you research possible Lexia options, the seller says it will not work with certain cars (I think the C5 and 407 are ones that would not work) steer clear of it. That would mean their equipment does not have the full opto-coupler set, which would be a problem for the C6. If you also want to help out any friends/colleagues who have Fiat derived PSA vans get the S1279 module as well, which then allows full communications with them (although it may not work with Fiat badged vans).

Thanks guys

I will check them out. shipping won't be a problem My issue is to get the system to actualy work! I did get a cable a while back, but it never worked. to set it up seems to be a dark art, nevermind to get it to function. Possibly those guys will be able to assist me in installing it. I have a dedicated laptop with windows XP. possibly too old?

It will need a decent amount of memory. My Toshiba netbook only had 1GB RAM and it struggled (it was running Windows 7 Starter), but when I upped that to 2GB RAM it ran a lot better. Remember that the most amount of memory a 32bit system (O/S or hardware) can support is maximum of 4GB RAM (and this includes video RAM), so any more than that would be wasted.

I do not have the laptop with me right now but I suspect it has decent memory. I think it has 4gb of ram and even a devent videocard and HDMI inteface so I guess it might be enough but will make sure. I better get the proper thing. I replace suspension bushes and I can see the front of the car is sitting a bit higher than it should so I have to reset the heights too. the car just looks wrong

There's a lot of voodoo magic required for the height settings on these Corne - if you don't know the ritual, let me know nearer the time and I'll put something up for you.

Given that you are a long way from the UK, you may be interested in buying direct from China. I bought one from: https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/10000015 ... Title=true the vendor has good reviews and the device supplied is a fully populated revision C.
