Hi
Have a look around near the thermostat area for a small brown connector plug attached to a temp sensor.
Check the connection to this brown sensor because this feeds the Bitron box with information.
The Bitron box controls the cooling fans, STOP & High temp warning lights & Aircon.
If the sensor or its wiring goes faulty then the fans & warning...

This is an infernal dash problem.

Basically, the two green indicator lights are on permanantly, like stuck on, simultaeneously - though not flashing. The 'outside' indicators and hazards work on the outside as they should though you cant hear them clicking. Same with the hazards....

I am carrying on from my last post, it appears the dash board will have to come out to replace the matrix, ehhh, help. The process will involve takin off the steerin wheel and taking offline for a while the air bag, what do i do to access the nut holding on the steering wheel, how do i stop the air bag goin off.

Sounds hilarious.
No sorry, sounds dreadful.
There are some earlier threads I noticed on central-locking behaving badly, so try a search of the archives.
Once everything is open, it might be an idea to remove the CL fuse until the problem is diagnosed. I remember someone being locked out of their own filler cap.

If you're having problems with blower temp control or two speed fan not working properly try the following.
Remove the front courtesy light, then undo the 2 screws to remove the whole housing. Disconnect the orange plug which is for the cabin sensor. The heater then works by taking the mean average from the other 2 sensors ( coolant and outside )...

Dont know about the lights but the front subframe, engine, suspension etc is all the same. The 309's rear axle is wider though. Best thing would be to go along there, if he wants to sell them enough he will let you try and clip them into your car first

1.8 Diesel Turbo

The two engines are: XUD9 which is 1905cc and XUD7 which is 1769cc. It's the XUD7 which is sometimes called 1.8 The only difference is the smaller engine has a piston diameter of 80.0mm and the 1.9 is 83.0mm. Stroke is the same in both. Slight difference in comp ratio.

Control-arm bushes

Get yourself a 'breaker bar' if you don't have one (a long bar with a half-inch drive on the end) to undo bolts.
It should be a straightforward job, but getting old bushes out and pressing new ones in can be a pig if you've not done it before.
It's not much more expensive to buy new control arms from GSF complete with the new bushes already...

This is a commmon problem on the 306. It's likely that the wiring harness from the door to the door pillar is in poor condition. The wires become brittle and with the constant flexing they end up breaking down. I think this causes the CL to play up. Pull back the rubber boot on the loom and check for broken/breaking-up wires. It's tight in...

check first if voltage is appearing at the strip connectors. If not, then it will indeed be the timer relay which has failed (can you hear a click when you press the switch on?) If there is voltage at the connectors, then it may be that someone has put a big scratch in the rear window, and broken all the stripes. Bad luck if they have, cos they're...

Not sure about the struts, but a knocking when turning is often down to a split driveshaft gaiter. I can never quite remember which way round it is, but I've got a feeling that knocking when turning right indicates a dodgy left-hand gaiter. Or it might be the other way around Check both are in good condition as it's a fairly common part to perish.

How long was it since you cleaned the engine last? If there was a leak it'd be more than just a film and would end up as spots on your driveway The engine in my old 306 was a mess, but half an our with a can of Gunk and a new camshaft breather pipe later (mine had a large split and no jubilee clip) the engine was sparkling and stayed that way...

The sensor / aerial unit for the RF keyfobs is located behind the glovebox.
Some very early 406 L & LX had the infra red remotes & the sensor unit for these was in the roof consoul.

Hi,
the 1.9td engine is the same as the 405, so the usual stuff applies, good cooling system, cambelts etc.
The 2.1td engine is much better; full electronic injection control, much faster but no less economical. It is, however, a more complex engine. Clutches are a horrible job (a days labour at least as it is hydraulic), as are cambelts (£400)....

206 Engine/noise problems

Give us a clue on the mechanics that have done the clutch. Not kw** fit by any chance?

I've taken my 206 to have it's annual service done and they have reported that the clutch release bearings have gone and the clutch needs replacing. There is a noise from my 206 when the car is in nuetral and the clutch pedal is up.
I've since gone with the dealers advice in that the clutch needed replacing.
However, I have had the clutch replaced...

Hi there
I would realy apreciate some help on this as everyone I've spoken to is baffled. The o/s/r door is stuck closed. I can here the motor working, but it won't release the lock.

Diesel leak???

As far as I am aware all HDi engines have a turbo.
A 90 will (I guess) be the same as fitted to the Xsara Picasso, i.e. turbo but no intercooler.
As for the fuel leak / engine management light I have no idea. I don't know if they could be connected but it's probably best to assume not. And if they are selling it in this state it doesn't say much...

Hi
Check the intermediate bearing in the lower engine mount, The right hand drive shaft passes through this & a worn bearing or housing will give you all sorts of nasty noises.

I drove my 405 diesel today and stopped as it SOUNDED like I had a puncture, but the tyres were OK.
I tested turning tightly in a car park ,and on left turns there was loadish clicking.
This SUGGESTS the right hand shaft needs replacing.
Before I shell out to have repaired, does anyone have OTHER cheaper things to check first please?

Have a webb serch for Black country exhausts. West Mids based but I think they do nation wide delivery. Dirt cheap and last time I was at the base they had all the sporty looking stuff.

I have a 306 1.8 XS, exhaust system is rusting up a bit and signs of blowing are present.
Anyone reccommend a replacement, would like to keep the sport look of the current one, don't want a pee shooter replacement.
Do GSF offer a sports system, liek they do for the VW's?

Hello, I followed the haynes manual instruction on how to deactivate airbag system, although i diconnected both terminals on the battery (is this okay?),so i could replace front seats. 405 Airbags

I know there was someone on a forum last year who was hit by a motorbike & the 405 airbag worked its magic.
What year is the 405 in question?
Some 405s where recalled because of a fault with the rotary switch behind the steering wheel that could stop the airbag firing even though the start up test light sequence is working fine, Perhaps yours...

Hey Guys,
What does it take to set off a 405 airbag.
I just totalled one smashing the car into a wall and then flipping it over when one of the rear wheels snapped off, and the airbag made no appearance at all.
Before anyone asks I was unhurt apart from a few scratches, although my bank manager won't like me for a while.

Firstly, Have you checked the oil level in the autobox?
You should find a dipstick for the gearbox under the bonnet, Do you have the handbook for the car?
Normally the level is checked when warm, Park up with the handbrake on & leave the engine running.
Put your foot on the brake pedal & hold it there.
Move the gear lever through all the gears...

Just bought a 1998 1.8LX Auto. It's perfectly OK round town and on short journeys, but after a long blast down the motorway, then off on to an A road, it starts juddering and lacks power, the auto box becomes erratic and the orange ECU warning lamp comes on, then clears, and comes on again repeatedly. Also the car will crawl forward in neutral....

The code on the petrols is stored in the ECU & Keypad, Both MUST match or the system throws a sulk & locks up.
Take the ECU to a Peugeot dealer & ask them to unlock it, After you have shown them proof of ownership which they will ask for.
You could always get hold of the matching keypad & the code & unlock it permanently yourself.

You might have a popped washer hose somewhere? Fill the washer fluid botttle right up to the brim then try washing the back window. If the level goes down but nothing comes out of the washer nozzle then it's quite likely. If this is the case then check in the footwells and in the boot for possible damp patches. Also check for waer spilling out...

My 306 (P reg) isnt squirting any water out of the rear windscreen wiper washer. Its the Valeo type, with the 2 jets over the bolt thing that holds the wiper arm on. I can hear the motor turning, but nothing comes out. The front washer works fine tho.

I know there is a water level sensor located on the offside of the radiator a few inches down from the filler cap.
Can you see what colours the connector plugs are that these wires are attached to?

I've noticed the alternator belt has chafed thro some wiring which seems to run to sensors in the offside of the radiator. Have not had car long and haven't noticed any problems yet.Does any one have any ideas please.

I've let a peugeot mecahnic look and he couldn't find the problem in the hour I allowed. He expects it could be a connector as the unit doesn't seem to be getting any power.
Does anyone know the locations of the connectors/wiring leading to the temperature and blower control dash?
Would mine be linked to the ignition switch as well?

When I try to switch the AC on or the internal circulation nothing happens, I have no fans and am unable to change the temperature setting.
