ive just bought a selector link for a 405 about 20 mins ago and its £18. But that was at a main dealers mainly cos i wasnt sure which of the 3 links i wanted. And needed to be 100% sure as i have one of those cars made with bits from the "special pile".
but like power lee says they do wear out and just need replacing just hope urs didnt go like mine did on the motorway slowing down for some pillock that pulled out with 3 foot to spare gggggrrrrrrr.

expensive i know but sometime you just have to what they want to get it going again.
its just taken 2 hrs to change the selector link. 2hrs for a 3 maybe 4 inch piece of metal. Im not impressed. the bar at one end came off fine, the end that popped off the other day also came off easily (just like the other day). But only looking at the new one did i realise that a piece (the socket for the ball) should be attached to the selctor and not fixed solidly to the ball. Lots of cursing and carefull wrenchin its off. the ball joint under neath needed sanding as it had rusted.
So one careful sanding, one generous dob of grease, one reassembled battery tray and bits ive got a nice gear change again.
job done now just a quick breather and on to the glow plugs.
Arent i glad its sunny today!!!
