Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Something else I noticed, on first click of the ignition the fuel gauge rises as normal on second click it goes backwards as though trying to get of the scale (less than ignition off)

Connected all the electrics back up which was fairly straight forward however when the battery is connected the stop light and brake light come on on the dashboard....

Check that the levers on the calipers return fully to their stops, unhook the cables to make sure, if they are part way through their travel due to incorrect cable adjustment there will be a reduced amount of leverage.

could anybody tell me where the power steering pump is on the 1768 engine?
i'm assured it's on the left hand end of the engine(alternator end) but i think it's on the right hand side under the intercooler rad thingie--i ask because my power steerings packed up and i can see a shredded belt but am told the power steering pulley is elsewhere

My 309 is a 1993 1.6 auto with Magneti Marelli G6 engine management. It runs fine most of the time but about once every month or two it suddenly loses power and stalls. Always restarts OK. Sometimes fault code 33 MAP sensor is stored, but voltage checks on this at idle and engine stopped are within limits. Could this code be caused by a misfire...

Probably they'll replace the driveshaft rather than the C/v joint. It shouldn't cost more than £60 plus a couple of hours at local labour charge.

As far as I was aware the CAT was only introduced on the phase 2 and judging by your message you’re buying a phase 1. When I had the CAT cut out of my 98’ D-Turbo there wasn’t any noticeable difference in fuel consumption or power. It must have improved things slightly but I couldn’t tell.

I take it we are talking infra red remote key here?
If yes then, The receiver unit is in the roof next to the courtesy light under the raised dark red plastic lens.
To test the keys output point the key at a digital camera or phone camera, Look at the screen & watch for a bright flash when the keys button is pressed.

Try a Gunsons Eezibleed, it uses the pressure in the spare tyre to force clean fluid through the system.
It'll be the best tenner you'll ever spend on brake tools, and stops you busting the master cylinder seals by pushing the pedal too far.

Having had '93 405 GLD with central locking, the swop - '96 406 LDT is without and it's a pain.
1) I assume it would be a simple bolt-on of the central locking equip't in the doors to standard fixings. Am I right?
2) What's involved re wiring. Or is there more involvement - like a new blip receiver etc.

does it have an alarm too? if so it sounds like the motherboard to me. your best bet is to upgrade to a better system as peugeot security systems are pants! sorry i could be of little help.

The trip recorder sounds like a blown backlight bulb, When you turn the lights on all the other bulbs will light the panel up.
I would check the fuel level sender under the back seat, might be dodgy or a lose connection to it.
Also check the earth connections to the panel.
My mates 1996 406 2.0 petrol LX has no diagnostic light, rev counter, fuel...

Fuel gauge - 405 LDT. Infrequently reads correctly. Otherwise at bottom or wanging right over to the stop past full mark. The empty light illuminates correctly.

Hi
There might be a big metal clip holding those blanks down.
The clip is located inside the seat & requires some dismantling to get at.
The clip just slides into a groove in the blanks / inserts

I have recently got a 406LTD without rear head restraints - just a blocking cap. I want to fit head restraints but ned to swop the blanks for the inserts with the release levers.
I've not been able to identify what's keeping them fixed to the tubes that the head rests slide into. I assume the release lever inserts will be same fitting method....

Hi FB,
You need to take the instrument binnacle out , it comes out in one piece after you take out the torx screws inthe surround, all the bulbs are on a circuit board behind it, I did mine last year and I remember that the Haynes manual was pretty useful,

Have you tried a Solex carburetor dealer?
Also have you tried a Pug dealer?
Have a look in Yellow pages or on the internet for an agent near you.
If it was my car & funds permitted I would ditch the Solex carb & get a Webber carb fitted.

1) Not imperative to use procor 3000.Any reputable branded antifreeze of the right kind should be fine.
2)Heater is one, right hand side of the rad at the top is another and on my 306 there is one on a slim piece of piping to the right of the fuel filter housing.
3)Filler bottle can be cobbled together by one of the large robinsons squash...

1) Peugeot handbook says 'imperative' to use Procor 3000 ... I was proposing to use Halfords branded antifreeze (the 'hi-tec' one that is supposed to last 5 years)...is it likely to do any harm?

I've noticed the front doors are a bit sticky and theres some hinge play. I've also noticed that the hinges are welded!
Do I lower the door locks, fit new hinge pins or is there a secret Knack to lining the doors up? 3 x2 lever maybe?

Yep! have heard of these befor. Another site I'm on for 4X4's (Frontera's) a couple of guys have fitted them. Both reckon they have gained only about 5mpg more but it has smoothed out any flat spots through the gears when pulling. For 5mpg it don't relly seem worth the out lay. Then again ona 4X4 it could be worth the bother.

I had a '95 205 turbo diesel and the steering did the same as yours at low speed- especially near the end of each lock, but at running speed it was fine, hope this sets your mind at rest a bit,

I have just become a proud owner of a 205 diesel.
Its a 1995 model so has all the extras including power steering.
I have noticed though at low speed and when staionary the power steering is distinctly lumpy. It almost jerks its way round when you turn the wheels rather than being a nice smooth motion as I would expect.

Might be a good idea to find the cause of the vibration instead. I know I have a ZX but it doesnt vibrate to any extent moving or stationary, and the two cars are basically the same..?

welcome to the world of peugeot/citroen gear linkages. Ive owned about 6 citroens and not one would go into reverse 100% of the time properly without slipping out or making a horrendous noise unless I put it in 5th first then back into reverse. Has to be due to the linkages and free play in them other the years

I have a 406 estate with a manual box and have an occasional reverse gear problem. Sometimes when I try to engage reverse the lever springs out again without actually selecting the gear. The lever has been pulled back as far as possible but just doesn't 'click' into place. Selecting another gear such as first and then trying reverse again cures...

I have just bought a 96 N 405 TD Estate with aircon 104000 mls.
Very clean one owner. Today I got a bit headachey and opened the window a bit to get some air. Later when I got back in the car it smelt very exhausty inside.
Any ideas where the fumes might be getting in?
I thought maybe the tailgate, but maybe...

Ive just got a W reg 306 lx and am wondering what i can expect to get out of it petrol consumption wise.
I mainly do a 30 mile round trip to work and back on country roads and dual carraige way.
I usually do about 50 to 70 m.p.h .
How many miles can i expect from a full tank?
Its just cost me £40 to fill the tank up from the red

Guys, i once posted about my car vibrating above 100kms/h. Since then i changed rims, tires, balanced the wheels in and out of the car... i'm getting tired, really, and considering getting some factory rims and new tires (although mine have 4000Km on).

Should be no problem with injectors from like manufacturers, but they have to be set up by shimming the needle return spring to attain the correct opening pressure, if you simply do the swap you probably wont get it anywhere near and neither will you know until you run the engine, if the injector doesn't open at the same pressure as the other...

It all depends what set of gauges your fitting to your 306.
There are several different options for a start, At least one of the diesel tachos works of the alternator terminal W, All the other diesel tachos work of a engine sensor, I think its the TDC flywheel sensor but dont quote me on that.
Also mid 1996 was the changover point for ditching...

i just purchased a 96 306 DTurbo S and on the same day i tried to put the alarm on (testing) which worked...but now the indicator light sticks on..i know theres a post similer but it didnt cover where the relay that opperates the indicators for the alarm is...any idea's??

Not to sure but would have thought the basic bits would stay the same. Most manufactures would put 'add ons' in to the wiring loom not take stuff out. It should go straight in.

there's a garage that I use in liverpool, near the airport, they are called C & C diesel's, you should find there number on the net, but to be honest if you are in liverpool go and see them, ask for CJ or carl tell them you were recomended by luke (I work in the same yard as them) they just did a CV boot on my car (as a forigne job, after hours)...

Check the valve clearances - sometimes the exhausts receed a bit a don't help compression on cold starts. Otherwise could be a duff injector, or maybe the advance on the pump is not working quite as it should. Try waiting another 4 seconds after the glow plug light goes out - this sometimes helps. Has anybody got and idea what would cause a rough cold start in the morning apart from an air leak or duff glowplugs? I've checked all of the above, (glowplugs were new Bosch jobbies in April and still work ok) but it still misfires for a couple of seconds and belches out white smoke on a cold start.
Its on 109K on the original injectors,...

I am just about to overhall the front calipers on the 504, they have ATE pads, and according to the rubbers on the piston Girling. My Pug dealer who I reckon thinks I'm rather a fruit loop by now, has ordered me an overhall kit (from my 1968 part number!!).
What should I be aware of when doing this overhall. I am going to replace the master...

The newer Haynes manuals are full of gems like that.
Yes, I changed one recently, but it is a bit of a job. You have to remove the steering rack first. The Haynes manual does cope with this.
Then you have to remove the RH track rod, which can be done complete if you peel back the plastic gaiter and unscrew the inner ball joint from the rack....

During the summer I wrote on this forum about my 406 TD (195k)that was losing water into the oil causing alot of mayonaising in the oil filler neck. Apart from this problem the car performed faultlessly. The general concensus at the time was that the head gasket had gone and so I have recently visited a couple of garages to let them have a look....
