Our '96 406 produces a gurgleing sound when it rains. the sound seems to be coming form the sunroof area. has anyone else come across this problem and what would be a suitable solution? There is also a watery sound from the B pillar on the nearside at motorway speeds in the rain, is this related?
Cheers
Pete

Definately blocked drain pipes from the sunroof. A very common problem on any car with a sunroof.
Looking under the car near or in the wheel arches, it should be possible to find open ends from drain hoses reaching down - each corner of car.
Using a long piece of stiff steelwire, you can carefully gauge the drain hoses and free up any blokcage. Its best if you can reverse gauge hoses with the wire.
But be careful. Some of these hoses are soft and easy to penetrate with a too thin gauge wire.
I find domestic electric installation copper wire exactly the right stiffness. Bend to a soft small eye in the end not to catch anything.
Do NOT use a pressurised water or air line, as the drain hose then may dislodge from the sunroof - resulting in future showers inside the car

Welding wire is also meant to be pretty good for this. Must do my 405 with it...it's funny how you see a lot of older cars with gaffer tape around the sunroof to stop water leaks; most people don't realise the rubber seal is actually designed to let water in - the drain holes (should) take it away!
The 406 I recently sold (97/P reg) was actually pretty rusty on the metal 'folds' around the sunroof well, and had some ominous bubbling on the roof between the sunroof and the front doors, so it would be good idea to clear your drain holes before it gets this bad. Only rust on the entire car, mind...
It may also be worth checking that the rubber seal under the roof aerial is also OK, as I've seen them deteriorate and water get in past the 'screw' at the bottom (which protrudes into the inside of the car, where the interior light/sunroof control/plip receiver is).
